CB-inspired game (in Off-topic)

Hi, three4thsforsaken here. If you don't know me, I was a very active user a few years ago. At my prime, with the help with my partner-in-crime Natasha, we abused a few technicalities of CB to hold the #1 score spot for over a month.

CB has taught me a lot, and is much of the reason I decided to study programming a few years ago.

I am about to graduate and I have suddenly realized that my web programming really needs some work. A lot of work. I've done no web programming in school, this is unacceptable. So I need a project that I can be passionate about, maybe a game? Maybe a game like CB?

So I've been looking into it, but I need some help.

Firstly, I am having a lot of trouble asking fundamental questions regarding architecture. I don't even know the words to google. Examples include: What is common architecture for a login system? What resources exist online so I can avoid reinventing the wheel when I can avoid it? What order should I prioritize in learning and implementing systems?

Secondly, I have thought a little about game design. I love a lot of things about CB but there is a lot of problems. Problems I really want to attack are scalability and multi-ing. I envision a system that looks rewards creativity over USD and I will do that by making the game look much more like CB tournies than CB long term play. Things are fuzzy here (and less important than current implementation problems), I will post details if you are all interested.

If you're interested in helping me out, shoot me a PM. I have a lot of questions and would really appreciate your wisdom and feedback.
