Strategy Help/Refresher (in General)

It's been a while so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing too much with the strategy I've started.

At the moment I am running 1/2 HP, the rest in Fireball, and paired with a small DM (10k in levels). I figured I could run DM since the RoBF should negate most decays, but correct me if I'm wrong there.

As for the rest of the equipment I have the following planned:
RoBF
DBs
AGs (Thought about NSC but they are worthless against opponents with no AMF)
HoC
MS
AoI

Overall I think it should be solid but I'd much rather find out any major weaknesses it has now rather than later.

I could suggest an SoC rather than the MS.
as for decays opponents using an NSC will still hit.

AMF should be the better route then?

Looking at the actual numbers for damage reduction of the two shields they seem to be about equal at 3m NW and I don't get the penalties with the SoC.

as for decays opponents using an NSC will still hit.

Would a minion with a base Decay and +13 NSC then only have a .87 AMF, so to speak, cast upon their Decay spell or would the presence of the NSC ignore the RoBF effect entirely?

I don't think I've ever dealt with the RoBF effects with regards to Decay before so I'm a little lost at the moment.

RoBF doesn't do anything vs decay

Tertiary effect: Magic resistance; protection against Direct Damage Spells, sans Decay and direct Sling of Death hits.

What is meant by this then? Is it saying that it protects against Direct Damage except Decay and direct Sling of Death hits?

That makes a lot more sense than what I was thinking now that I type it out, but why would Sling of Death hits be lumped in with magic resistance?

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] October 28 2012 1:28 PM EDT

Because the splash damage from sling of death is considered a special type of magic damage but the direct hit is not.

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] October 28 2012 1:29 PM EDT

Also yes, that is what that means.

Thanks for clearing that up, much obliged.

Not sure if an RoBF would be a good choice. It is best used for stats that delay a fight where as fireball is for a quick fight. Better idea would be going with familiar.

NSC would be way better as most people have amf.

MS would be better than an SoC. SoC only helps against physical damage where as the MS would be good against physical, GA, and magical.

Overall, the strat isn't bad but will start costing a lot to keep pumping up the Dbs. Also, GA teams will probably eat you x].

I was hoping to try something a little different using Fireball, and the problem I have with a familiar is that once I'm into melee I start killing myself off.

That said I agree it's not the most solid strategy unless I go more of the route of an enchanter with a smaller Fireball. Or even try splitting my EXP three ways between HP, Fireball, and AMF.

NSC would be more helpful against a few opponents so I am planning to switch between the two for now.

Putting money into DBs should be a problem for now, we'll just have to see where this character goes.

Forgot about the shields. Good thing that handy edit button is there ;)

It looks like a case where I'll try and see which works. If my DBs are enough to avoid most physical attacks the MS would most likely be better for reducing the magic attacks that actually hit me. That and the inconvenient GA.

In the case of a familiar, there would be a very small amount of cases where it would survive to melee.
