Suggestion: Users Online (in General)

I was thinking of a possible idea, don't know if whomever it was up to could incorporate it or not, though.

But, I've played on a few other text-based RPG sites and most of them had a page you could go to, typically called "Users Online" that you could go to and see who had been online, IE clicked any given link on the site, in the last 2 to 15 minutes, some saying specifically how long ago, others just a general "Online" notice.

It somewhat promoted more socializing, given you were more aware of the people who were actually online if you wished to inquire about something, or simply socialize. It'd be especially useful to people who just recently joined, within the last 48 hours or so, who were actually interested in staying on CB for a while but needed a little help or extra encouragement to stick around.

It also promoted/encouraged lingering/lurking around for a bit. Say someone was just online, about 5 minutes ago, and you wanted to talk to them. The person would linger/lurk a bit in the hopes they came back soon enough.

I don't know if there is actually a page you can go to already or not, or if it's possible, but I figured I'd throw that out there.

Click the Community link :)

8989 users who created a Character
1381 users with portraits
11514 non-retired Characters
4879 Characters with images
72 active users from the past 7 days
2 new users in the past 24 hours
22 active users from the past 15 minutes

Chat used to help as well, but not many people have been using it these days =\

Chat was pretty much that. I used past-tense, as the chat program requires a Java client, and I don't even install Java on computers anymore.

Is there even a point to chat if the few people who have it never say a word?

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] May 31 2013 5:36 PM EDT

Chat used to be really active, this died down to nothing after quite a bit of vocal players left or have been on extended breaks.

Personally I'm never on long enough to really use it these days anyway, easiest way to contact me is CMs as I always get back to those eventually.

Oh. o.o So there is a link to see that already. D:
It's just not as... 'Open' as it could be.
Usually it's one of the links that's listed at the top for the sites I go to. ;x
Where "Help! Home Settings Log out" are. -Shrugs.- Well, at least it is there.

Fight Feed is a decent alert system.

What we really could use would be an html 5 sockets based JS chat instead of the java version.

Any takers?

We should form a $CB pool as a reward for whoever successfully redesigns chat to Night's specifications.

I have a friend who has a master's in computer science. o.o
He told me that'd be simple enough. D:
Now to convince him to do it. u_u

You could offer him some.. incentive.. -nudge nudge wink wink- Take one for the team Akali!

AdminNightStrike June 2 2013 10:40 PM EDT

Everything is simple until someone starts doing it..... been down this road a lot.

There's several gotchas in making nfc work over a web socket that are non-trivial. Ask him, though. See what he can do.

I'd donate some money for his time after I figure out what's going on with my housing/money situation in the end of July (tight on cash till then)
