Does anyone follow next generation gaming information?
I just caught a little of the E3 and saw they announced a $499 launch price this November.
However, some of the commentator people were mentioning stuff that you can not re-sell/buy used games at like gamestop, you can't even rent games from redbox/blockbuster/gamefly, and also you can't even lend a game to a friend?
just wondering if anyone who follows knows what that is all about. That just seems really dumb to me. I usually like to try games before I actually buy them and then once i beat them or get bored of them I sell them.
This is the newest info on how sharing, trading and such will work. I think the new system looks pretty cool and will most likely get one.

you can lend a game to a friend, and he cna play it, however, you both cant play that one game at the same time from diff locations (cause that would mean its copied)
That whole online drm, nsa monitoring thing is really pushing me for ps4 or a pc, but I've never owned an Xbox to start.

so is the part about renting games true then? with what i just read in that link I don't see a way they could have rentals :(
I very seldom buy a game without trying it first.
There won't be rentals (at least at launch) but a lot of games do have demos.
Which killed borrowing. Terrible loss.

I attended E3 last year, but I've been completely out of the loop this time around.
Despite being ill-informed, I would assume most of these heavy-handed changes are enforced at the discretion of the publisher. I also assume that some of these items will change as MS and Sony jockey for position in the world of PR. Regardless, here's a breakdown someone else made:
I am surprise they are able to get away with not allowing people to sell games freely.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a high level court case on this issue in the future.

They would have to break a law for that to happen. It's not unlawful, just unfriendly.
The kicker is that it's fully expected for PS4 to have their own aggressive controls. The winner of the console war may be the one who can spin it better in the public eye. Remember, the resell/rental market poses a larger loss of revenue to publishers than piracy.

Didn't wanna post about it since I'm a PC gamer anyway, but..

They just unlocked your machine. Saved someone from making a key to disable these "features". And we still never found out who these special dealers for trading in games & their identities. Xbone had one thing. You could gift your game to a friend. Or trade it in for shit credit. Less waste in the world. How many times can I download the same game? Some ps3 games only allow a couple or a few downloads. EA uses keys for their games like dead space & ssx, some are one time or few uses.
I liked the was it worked before better. Family game sharing would have saved Pit and I a lot of money especially as our kids get older. I feel like we lost more features than we gained with the reversal.
@ Demigod
I totally called it. I knew that was going to happen. I forget which thread I posted it in but I definitely called them dropping their restrictions, let's see how far it goes ;P

Ha! I'm pretty sure a lot of people called that one. There's no way MS could stay competitive otherwise, and the shareholders would have called for heads to roll. Heck, even the WiiU was starting to look good.

Well the NSA wants to make sure you don't level up too fast and to check in every 24 hours....

Just wait for that firmware update after a year or so.
<-- Is getting a WiiU for the next LoZ game >_>... yeah that's pretty much the only reason.
