Revival method? (in General)

Seriously November 14 2016 11:23 AM EST

So what's the chances anyone here can make this to a app? I'm sure it wouldn't be hard basically just making an app that links to here. It's much more of a mobile game than pc with today's tech. I'm sure some strategists are out there that would play

ThunderHyde November 14 2016 11:27 AM EST

It turns out that it is not that easy... Look at the following forum thread to see what happened the last time this subject came up:

Here is a link that actually works:

The best way we can help this game right now is to get people to play it. As I mentioned in the forum referenced above, post your comments and rating on the following site so that players looking for text based games can find Carnage Blender more easily:

I play this game on my phone all the time! It gets MUCH easier to play on mobile when you have Supportership, due to the Favorites list. I'm posting this message from my phone, by the way. :)

Seriously November 14 2016 12:46 PM EST

You guys are overthinking it. Simplicity is key. Maybe a small rework to make it more mobile friendly as it is a bit annoying in some areas but that would be very minor changes. The app would simply redirect to this I've seen it with a few others apps. Mostly not games however. But this game is almost like a forum. The app is to just put us in the App Store/ google play. Google play is free to host your app I believe. Upon logging in from the mobile app it would open the game through your browser still

ThunderHyde November 14 2016 12:51 PM EST

If we do it the way you propose, the majority of reviews it gets will be negative and no one will play it. I know that when I install an game and it opens using the browser on my phone, I uninstall it right away without even trying it.

AdminTal Destra November 14 2016 12:57 PM EST

Seriously. Have you ever coded in TCL? its almost impossible to port to android as an app. just use chrome and go from there.

Seriously November 14 2016 1:34 PM EST

I am by no means a coder. My knowledge in the subject is very low, but from what I have read and understand it is not that hard. And there is two options. Web viewer which opens the site in your app or code it so it opens your browser and directs straight to our main page. I agree a lot of time that can be a turn off but if you make it clear that is what the app does, instead of like some that falsely advertise and don't make you aware of that, the results would be different.

I play this game almost exclusively through my mobile Chrome browser with the only awkward issue being that sometimes the links are hard to accurately tap. I also had trouble burning BA very fast, until I bought Supportership. I just like to think of that as another benefit of Supportership: making the game more mobile friendly with the Favorites list. :) I think the main problem we're really discussing here is how to make this game as popular as possible. There really is very little reason to put this game on the Play Store, besides giving it more visibility to potential players. We need advertising; that's what we need. This game's visibility could be increased proportional to the amount of money and time put into advertising it. That's really what this game needs: a good advertiser.

ThunderHyde November 14 2016 2:24 PM EST

Well, I am a developer. I develop Web applications for desktops. And this is my opinion...

I agree with Seriously on the point that it is very easy to create a mobile application that opens a URL into chrome or even into a "frame" in an actual mobile application.

However, CB is not currently user friendly when opened on a phone. It it barely acceptable for tablets, even those with large displays.

I put myself in the shoes of someone who has never played the game... If I installed and opened an Android or IOS application that is not only text-based, but complicated to use on my smart phone or tablet, I uninstall it right away.

I sincerely think we would not get any new mobile platform users if the UI is not adapted for mobile and, on this point, I agree with Tal Destra: The application would probably need to be re-written using a mobile-friendly programming language before it could become attractive for *new* mobile users.

Seriously November 14 2016 2:52 PM EST

I'm not trying to put it on a level where you get an influx of thousands of players daily. Would be nice, but would require a ton of work. maybe if 100 new people join per day. If two of those in a whole week stay and play out their NUB that would be great. If you put in the amount of work your thinking we almost need to just go ahead and do CB3, I'm just thinking of a way that's simple to do, cost effective, and will bring new registrations to the game.

Which in turn will create some returning users. The majority of the people we will target would be extreme strategists. Now if someone wants to create cb3 and make it a super mobile friendly app then that would be great. However a few minor tweaks could make this game pretty mobile friendly, not perfect, but good enough. I'm thinking of a way we can put minimal time into changes while maximizing our outcome.

However, like I said, I'm all for cb3 if someone wants to put in the many many hours it will take to do it.

Another game I played, has been recreated to an app, but it is run on private servers and the big name company that owns it will not let them be on google play, it was for a few months and getting thousands of registers daily. Many returning users, some that had not played the game in 10years, some completely new to the game. Then the big company shot it down. I believe that game is the best game ever made/recreated for android gaming, now the new registers have dropped to maybe, a big maybe, 50 a day. while CB will likely not take that title, I'm sure it could get 100 new registers daily and some returning players if it was just on google play.

Seriously November 14 2016 2:55 PM EST

I just see it as since it's free to do, and would not take much time to create, it's worth a shot. If I had the skills for it I would be doing it right now. if the results don't show, well, screw it. It wasn't that much time wasted on a good effort.

ThunderHyde November 14 2016 3:44 PM EST

Well, I see what Seriously means now. It might be worth the shot if the code owners are ready to put in this small effort.

I think the estimation of 100 new users a day is way too optimistic but as stated: What have we got to lose?

The game might already be dying so if creating a very simple "re-direct" mobile app that opens CB into the device's web browser does not work, there is nothing to lose anyways.

Belome(Joel) November 14 2016 4:00 PM EST

Yeah, new users might be confused by how the interface is in a mobile browser. I know this place pretty well since I've been here before, but new users are a different story. Seriously's idea to put CB2 onto the app store could help, indeed! It would definitely get this game more exposure!

Seriously November 14 2016 4:18 PM EST

I agree that I feel that's a high number but you never know! With a good presentation, that could be fully possible! In my eyes that is going to be the hardest part. Because presentation is key, it's the difference of it you say eh this isn't my thing but let me finish the tutorial and reconsidering or hitting fight twice n quit. Also the slight changes that need to be made for mobile to be better. I have ideas on that. Which I'm sure Can't be too hard. Biggest three things, well it might be only two.

1. Unless I zoom in I don't want it to Zoom in. It seems to center and zoom if I click on anything. Maybe that's per the phone, if it is, sorry. I am an idiot sometimes. But, problem solved! Never paid attention to if it does it on other sites but I believe that's not the case.

2. A little less important, and may be a bit harder, if we could make the fight bar stay open when clicking fight. That'd be great.

3. you may be surprised to hear this but I have recently become an iPhone user, im pretty sure android can use java, I cannot on this POS. Lol. if chat works for droids then awesome no worries. If it doesn't let's make that work somehow.

Now I'm sure someone is thinking if ur on apple why not suggest Apple Store? It's quite costly, I believe a yearly fee of $60 or more. Whereas like I said I'm pretty sure google play is free.

So as the players I think we should try and help with the presentation part however we can. Maybe a contest to see who can make what, and a poll to see whos is best, maybe a collaborative thing. But one thing we all need to do if it is done is drop a 5 star rating and comment on it if it's made!

ThunderHyde November 14 2016 4:33 PM EST

Seriously...

For suggestions (1) and (2), there is not much that can be done. Any changes might make the desktop version harder to use because the programming language of CB is not made for mobile... REALLY not.

For suggestion (3), I think chat has been broken for over 5 years now. It was not getting fixed even when the code owners were still actively trying to improve the game. I agree, as just every one else does, that fixing chat should be a priority but the powers that be do not seem inclined to put in the effort.

Seriously November 14 2016 4:37 PM EST

I pretty much figured with 2. But thought 1. Might have had a chance. And that sucks about chat.. what is actually wrong with it?

AdminTal Destra November 14 2016 9:39 PM EST

chat is an easy fix, just won't be implemented.. java and their updates broke it for us.

Redemption [Axis of Evil] November 15 2016 1:10 AM EST

Sadly I tried reaching out to discuss how we could get chat fixed. Even offered to payment as an incentive to fix it. If we could get chat fixed it would go a long way in bringing back the community.
