-- DeadManSnacking

if it counts

i played (and still sometimes play) games like:

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate II
IceWind Dale
IceWind Dale II (plus expansion heart of winter)
Neverwinter Nights

and that other game with 'the nameless one' forgot the title though...

-- AdminShade

missing option...

Where's "yes, but I grew out of it" :-)

-- Ascent

Ascent -

Probably the second option.

-- Ankh-Weasel

I assume you are talking about the real game, not the computer game(s)?

Just go to ONE of those gatherings and see the type of people who play(ed) it. Please. It's way past Nerd, Geek and Dweeb.

-- Todd

Thank you Todd for saying that for me..

The Lobster has spoken

-- Shark

s/D&D/merp

:)

-- mglauche

Been playing since 1979. *gasp*

-- Caedmon

never knew the site so could never try it

-- [corrected]TheRealKiller

Ankh: Yes, but the second option, to me, implies that if I didn't have a job, I'd still be playing it. I stand by my no vote :)

-- Ascent

site??

@ therea1ki11er:
What site, its a book you need, lol.

-- Kinsbane

Wow Todd, casting stones? And you're not a dweeb/dork/whatever because the game you play doesn't require pencil & paper? I'd call you a hypocrite, but I think that would be too kind.

I've been playing since '77. I used to go to those conventions and generally had a great time. Calling half of us "way past Nerd, Geek and Dweeb"? Where does that come from? Feeling a little inadequate this morning and looking for some way to feel better about yourself?

I always love to go someplace where a lot of people are gathered and make fun of half of them. Straight out of 'How to Make Friends and Influence People'.

-- [EG] Almuric

4d8th!!

been playing since '95 and still game twice a week with friends. It's not always D'n'D, but it's always fun. I wear my geek badge with pride.

-- a20sidedninja

Well, I don't actually play anymore as the system isn't great.

Actually, finding a RPG with a decent system is quite hard...

Apart from the one I'm helping to make atm. ;)

-- AdminQBGentlemanLoser

poll choices are...conflicting

i said never, but not cause it was a nerd game. these choices try to say too much sometimes. might as well say, "never because my car broke down", which is it, never or because your car broke down?

-- QBsutekh137

I played AD&D from about '90 to '99, and still have fond memories of it. It's a great game, but very much depends on those who are playing in the group. I must agree with Todd that a good portion of the players are painfully geeky/nerdy, but there are many others who are "normal", "popular", social-type people.

I stopped mainly because the people I played with all moved away to different Universities. However, the reason why I didn't start again is because of the way the game was changing: new editions and texts were coming out nearly every year, and it seemed as though you just couldn't compete with other players if you didn't have the new texts with the new skills, classes, spells and so on.

-- Maelstrom

Wow Almuric. You seem so... defensive. ;)

A buddy of mine owns a collectables store in Kalamazoo Mi. He sells all sorts of collectable cards. He also sells all these D&D hardware and MTG type games. He runs gaming nights almost nightly where people come and play various board/paper games for hours on end. I've seen these guys. MOST of them are super dweebs. I mean, really.

We are all familar with the "you might be a redneck if..." lists, and I'm sure it's not difficult to imagine a "you might be a dweeb/nerd/geek" list containing, "You've met with other dweebs and play D&D for hours at a time more than 4 times per month."

I hardly see CB in line with the real D&D. CB does not require more than 10-15 minutes every 3-4 hours.

I'm not suggesting the world be without D&D. Gosh no. I love some of the computer games that have spawned from those roots. Besides, having stores run these gaming nights daily keeps these guys off the beach and paintball field, leaving room for me. haha.

Come on, really, I'm playing up the stereotypes. Poking fun. Trash talking. But, you DO have to wonder.. stereotypes are probably based on a lot of fact anyways, they are just not PC, nor do they apply to the entire population of D&D gamers (in this case). So.. lighten up :)

-- Todd

Careful you you call superdweeb at the safty of your keyboard they are my people and i am their champion warrior I bet im at least twice your size and could make a D20 a part of your face if you would like just because you arn't smart enough to play a game does not make people who play it lesser then you. -My Two Sense

-- Haloki

^^

/me pokes with lvl 15 spookeh stick

Super Dweeb Super Dweeb nanner nanner boo boo

-- NSFY

Where do you think "magic missile" came from?

Hey Haloki, my champion spells properly and uses punctuation.
Therefore, you are not my champion.

If you like the idea of RPGs but hate D'n'D I'd like to recomend the World of darkness game by White Wolf. It's one of the only games I've played that feels cinematic.

I agree with Todd, I think most gamers are nerds / geeks / dorks. (Who says dweeb anymore?) However, most gamers don't care about / revel in these labels. I've found that the ones who do are the ones who are ashamed of it, the "jock-gamers" if you will. Those of us who are functioning members of society generally ignore ignorant comments.
Especially when they're made by dye-slinging pansies who need to carry a gas-powered gun around so they feel like a real man :)
Just kidding.

A20sidedninja (lv. 8 cleric / lv. 3 wizard/ lv. 6 geomancer)

-- a20sidedninja

HeeHee!

Now that's some trash-talking!

-- NSFY

todd and almuric

i like the way todd says whatever and then when people "trash talk" in answer he say to lighten up.

how is it people can start trash but cannot let others finish it? :)

-- QBsutekh137

Uhhhh

There are geeks who roleplay, there are geeks who play CB, there are geeks on the football team. What's the big deal?

It's funny that people are like, "Have you seen those guys? They're huge nerds!" When most of us (admit it) have spent large portions of our day camping in a fictional store, to make ouselves better in a text based game, that if you tried to explain to a "normal" person would laugh at you.

I'll give you guys a hint. We're all geeks. Get over it. Don't try and make yourself feel better about your station in life by putting down a "lesser" group of people.

=)

-- Reebok

I've played DnD for nearly every weekend since I started college 4 years ago. Its great fun hangin out with the guys, roleplaying and nuking monsters. Every now and then we'll play Mage or the infinitly better Technocracy. We're not geeks, we just enjoy a more intelligent form of entertainment.

-- [SLO]TheManInBlack

Evil, meet sword! Sword... meet... EVIL!

If every D&D scenario I was involved in included Minsc and Boo, I think I'd play it all the time. A little trivia - the guy who did the voice of Minsc is the guy who does Winnie the Pooh. Amazing what you can learn on IMDB, ehh?

-- Xanthochroid

267th!!!

...

-- Ariac

Bleak or Gloke?

LOL! I'm an avid role player. Have been since I was 11. Well possibly before if you count playing board games/war games with my folks (especially ones my Dad made..) when I was a kid (in his youth, he even melted his own lead minatures...). I've tried most forms of role playing, live action was fun for a while "Into my hand I call forth Fire - Quad bang" (Or running blindly screaming Double, Break, Drop or Trip!).

I also teach martial arts, go out and get bladdered with my mates (most of whom are also role players), have a very healty social life (although I'm finding myself enjoying going for a nice meal more than going clubbing till 6AM nowadays... Maybe I am getting old...) and a wonderful wife.

Bloke or Geek?

I consider myself a little of both.

Although the wife would disagree when I get drawn into quizzes on movie quotes... >_<

For all you timid repressed role players out there, don't fear, Vin Deisel has admitted to being a role player! Stand up and be proud of your hobby! ;)

-- AdminQBGentlemanLoser

294

294 YES!!

-- Untouchable

Never played...but we're very seriously considering starting a D&D group...and I get to be the dungeon master, because I'm the biggest loser.

-- {Squire}Mushu

Please don't make fun of the paintball crowd. Paintball is essential in that it keeps those dweebs out of the rifle ranges where the real men and women meet each week. :-)

-- Thraklight Resonance

><

ME and Mush get together every few months and....

No I have never played, guess it just didnt make it to my generation.

-- Shinji

been a long time

wish i still have time to play!!!

-- kane

Been playing since 1979.
They can have my D20 when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.(of course I'll have another one in my pocket.)

-- RAMPAGE

MUSHU!!!

hey....call me if you do, so i can truthfully answer the last option. xD

-- tikigodbob

Todd the Geek Basher?

Most use of put down towards stereotypes stems from the hidden fear to be associated with that stereotype, when displaying typical characteristics of that stereotype.

With an age 40+ magic card collector playing textbased rpg's, posing as a part-time antagonist, i think we have a winner :P

Yes i play pen and paper RPGs and still love it after 20 years.

-- Phaete

No More!!

Sorry to say but these days there are no more nerds/jocks clicks anymore....todays youths are all about tecnology forget nerd or jock those where the days of the past lets say 80-90ish? Thats right alots changed! Im shocked too! You dont really have to call yourself a nerd to get attention or put someone down, just be yourself thats what GenY is all about i dont know about you guys but the term nerd just seems old

-- Frost

Never. I heard it was a nerd game.

Never. I heard it was a nerd game.

-- drudge

What really scares me, is 8.5% of CBers play with Mushu...

-- Undertow

mushu?

is there somehting im not getting about this "mushu"? anyways every time id try to play or i had the books my mom always found out...remember the mother on waterboy? (even when i moved out she knew what i was doing)

-- Mandy

First edition

I remember starting in about 1979, i was about 8. I have alway's been a fan of first and second edition. but since gygax sold out the game has turned rules heavy and thus i have lost all interest (unless ofcourse were talking old style). My fav character was a Grey Elf Cavalier, awesome class to play until it got nerfed in Second Ed.

-- {CB1}Sparticus

yeah, it got nerfed because Unearthed Arcana was a munchkin paradise. :)

-- Caedmon

MUSHU

you dont know what a mushu is?
There should be a FAQ on mushu then for you new players and newbies

I'm a chick. I play D&D and Magic the Gathering. I dig RPGs and read fantasy books. I love it all. My boyfriend both DMs our group and plays when someone else runs. We've started a d20 company to expand upon and tweek the current D&D system. (It should be done in time for Origins this year!) It's awesome, fun, whatever. Everyone here is a geek/dork/nerd/dweeb/ect. I'd say that we spend, on average, 10 hours on CB everyday. Playing CB isn't all that different from playing D&D; the concept is the same, and a lot of the elements are interchangeable. My name is Tonya. I'm a geek, and I'm proud.

-- Tonya

For the Record

Just need to say D&D is not a game for geeks/nerds or Dweebs. Its all about an imagination. Even this game here follows along the same lines of imagination, you are imagining that you are in charge of minions that go out and kill others to get gold/prestige and you do all this while being able to talk to many others at same time. Remember this is an RPG, Role Playing Game which is also what D&D is.

-- Lymfada

one big sentance

ya i have never goten to play DnD but my brother got this book that was called gangrel which was just like it but we couldnt get a group started and with classes and school i dont think i am a nerd i am my self i am a person who loves rpgs and stays physically active with martial arts i collect weapons i do alot of diffrent things so there are no dorks dweebs and nerds here just people unless you are a alien then run ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! i am sorry for being insane

-- lotien

options change

I think there should be a Shinji option, cuz mushu gets to much of the sptolight, and I am just, well better then him.

-- Shinji

rolls eyes

I played D&D and Elf quest before most whoom play here were born.. I prefered Elf Quest tho...

I havent played any of those games in many years.

ps the options kinda left me out so i did yes but got a job one...

-- Jump123

I like polls, and also pie.

-- Kaioshin

Mushu needs to quit school so Jon can pay him to be himself full time on CB. These newb fools need to be taught a lesson.

-- Undertow

Caedmon

Been playing since 1979. *gasp*

-- caedmon

** I was, like, 3 when you started playing...
