woohoo! it should be indeed a place for mentors OPs and New Players, this way we can new players more into the game, and at the same time get Carnage back to life. =)

Hmm..

I'm not new player, but i still know nothing.. o.O

-- Antique Monkey

pull the talkers out

that room is for new players and needs to be populated by new players and mentors with 1 or 2 OPs on hand at all times.

Carnage Chat

every time I go into the carnage chat i feel cold, its not a very exciting chat

-- A Lesser AR of 15

Despite the ridiculous bias in the options, I think as long as the phrase "actively encourage" isn't code for /kick, the third option is the best.

-- {Squire}Mushu

IMO

in my opinion, new players can be visited by everyone, however when it is getting really crowded, some people should either know to be a bit more quiet, or play with the big peoples :)

Though I will have a hard time enforcing it myself, unless it would be a general rule.

-- AdminShade

I'm not a mentor, but i still answer new players' questions, so what you're gonna kick me out no matter what now? There's no option to just keep it the way it is, except one that makes me sound bad by "just wanting to chat", yea the cha's good here, but **I** answer new players' questions when i see one fly by.

-- smallpau1 - Go Blues

My Opinion

Well I got a thread started about this so I would feel rather sheepish to not at least post. I voted for the actively encouraged option but I believe a the choice of a kick should be given to the ops IF chat is crowded and there are new players asking question and/or when someone is deliberately makign new players uncomfortable. Thanks for reading my 1 cent.

-- BootyGod

Keep NP, but add another room...

I think on one hand, yes New Players can be overwhelming to newcomers, and while most would just say too bad, I think it's fair to give them their own personal room...Perhaps make an additional room in between the silence of carnage and new players. That way it should make everyone happy, yeah? Just one girl's opinion I suppose

New Players *is* their own, personal room.

-- {Squire}Mushu

Right, Mushu, but when was the last time you visited new players? I'm not saying anything by it, but most of us (yes, myself included) stay in there to just talk. Sometimes chat gets going so fast, it's very possible to miss new player's questions.

Now, with that said, I know that Doc, SNK, Gun, G_Beee and a few others are very active in helping the new Players. We try hard to help, but sometimes it probably scares the new people seeing so many abbreviations and different conversations. It's hard enough getting a grip on the game when you first start out strategy wise.

I think a seperate room where us, not so veteran or quiet people can go to have a good time, while letting the people who do want to help newbies with the game can go to New Players. I make Anger Management almost everyday, and people come there. It seems to work out well. Why not just have a permanent one?

-- Hakai

None of the above

I don't know what the problem is.

New players is almost always a friendly chat, regardless of what they're talking about. As far as I'm concerned I would much rather it stay this way, no newbie wants to show up and see a dead chat room, if their first sight however is of new players as it is today, it is much easier to ask questions. Plus, CB has survived because of it's community, it would be a very bad move to seperate newbies from this.

Besides, if anyone makes new players intimidating to newbies, there's always us /kick hungry OPs around to get rid of them. =D

-- MrC

My apologies, Hakai -- it sounded as if you were suggesting making a permanent room for new players. Edit: although I don't see how this mythical room you suggest is any different than carnage should, in theory, be.

-- {Squire}Mushu

Okay People

Mr Chuckles I do not see you in new players chat very much. I just wondering if you have ever been on at a time when text is flying by so fast if you can't read super fast you going to be lost. But I wanted to say ththat the first idea should only be used if a mentoring test/conditioning/ way to make sure their doing their job is implemented. I know it is fun to be a mentor but there needs to be a way to make sure the mentors know what their doing. You cannot wait for a new player to complain. First of all they almost never do and second of all how can a new player critisize what a vet player does? He can't. I want to make sure that if the first idea is implemented ops are up to par with what is needed by the new players.

-- BootyGod

IMO:

There is no problem, if there are idiots spamming, they get kicked, the fact is, you dont see questions getting answered because questions are not ASKED, there are very few new players that actually talk in the chatroom, which leads me to believe that most of them just quit the next day, and the others feel more comfortable asking a mentor in private (I felt that way, when I first joined.) I believe that saying a new player can hardly get his/her questions answered is a gross overstatement.

-- Admin{CB1}Slayer333

why bother !

all you have to do is type: /join Supreme
The coolest chatroom there is.

-- YOU

Finally

someone get it. Thanks Slayer. You seem to get the problem and understand the process of what new players must be going through. Oh and whoever it was that told us to go to Supreme lol you scare me.

-- BootyGod

GW: did you read slayers comment?

I chose option 2, I don't see this as a problem.

-- AdminQBnovice

Mushu, I agree. It's just Carnage is sooooo quiet! lol Honestly, what would happen in carnage if about 6 of us non-regulars came in and started chatting it up anyway? I am not being sarcastic, but asking a genuine question... ^_^

-- Hakai

Agreed.

New Players chat is good as it is. This is an environment that encourages asking questions, is filled with the players who spend the most time talking (and therefore are not sitting idle at the keyboard while new players are trying to ask a question), and usually has a topic going with a fair bit of humour thrown in that keeps the new players interested in what is going on in chat. IMO, that's what it should be about.

I chose option 3, simply because I felt there was no other option that really worked for me. Perhaps there should be a "I can't give an unbiased answer" option?

However, for talking strategy, Carnage should be the place to go. Most people, however, since they have it set as their default chatroom simply enter when they start the game and never look at it while they burn their BA. They are only in the room itself long enough to burn BA, check out forums and auctions, open the chat to see if perhaps something's happened, and then leave.

I <3 the current NP room.

-- QBOddBird

as is?

where is the leave as is option?

-- Adminedyit

Disappointment

I am very disappointed with the way this poll was presented. There is no "leave as is, do nothing" option. I am a fairly new player, and would hope for more maturity in something as important as new player's chat room. It has clearly been presented to the group that someone wants a change, so word it with one sided options and leave us to choose from which is the worst option and eliminate that one first. Choose from the lesser of two evils.

I am angered at the presentation of these childlike answers we have to choose from. Specificalyy, why was "leave as is, Do nothing", left out ?

My vote which does not count is DO NOTHING, LEAVE IT ALONE..

-- Guardian of the Glen

leave it how it is

most of the vets who populate NP who are not mentors are just there for a more lively chat (like myself)..i am like pau1...i answer a new players question when one flies by but normally i dont even pay attention to chat

-- Bull3t F4c3

"Mr Chuckles I do not see you in new players chat very much. I just wondering if you have ever been on at a time when text is flying by so fast if you can't read super fast you going to be lost."
Of course I have.
But that is not a problem, it doesn't occur too often and when it does there are enough mentors and helpful CBers hanging around that the question still gets answered. If it is missed, then the newb still has a mentor to contact or they can simply ask again in chat.

For what it counts, when I first joined I remember chat being flying by, but it does not stop newbies getting the help they ask for. Use full screen chat and tell me that not one out of twenty or so people would see a question before it goes off the screen.

-- MrC

It helps mentors a lot.

Not sure it should always have ten OP's that are there playing around, but then again they're prolly mentors too. We have an abundance of mentors here. All you'd need is an audience that will stick with it.

-- Zacharia Andrew Pa!n

If the older players keep complaining that carnage is a generally boring room and there are lots more of their friends to talk to in new players it just blatantly proves that the reason carnage is boring to you is the fact none of you are there.
If you all want general chatting with each other you should be in carnage, I see countless numbers of non new players talking between themselves in the New Players room when instead of spamming out the questions you could constructively be doing everyone a favour by talking in the correct rooms, carnage or private rooms.

-- Zoglog[T]

My home, with gun!

How dare you ask if it would be fine to kick us out of our home....*le whine*.

Eh if your going to do it, then please do it right that is all I ask.

-- YNM

what we really need is more feedback from new players, the people actually effected by this. Perhaps if new players is changed into this strict only there to answer new players questions chat, more new people who don't have questions will become bored and leave. Plus the people there to answer questions would become bored as well, and would probably start talking about stuff that has nothing to do with answering questions. I believe this is what happened with the original idea of a new players room, and that would continue to occur unless strictly enforced by ops and admins. So, what if under a new system of a more strict new players room, a new player asks why isn't anyone talking, they are directed to go to the carnage room if they want to chat, and they have a question after they go to carnage? Will they be directed to go back to new players to ask their question? Frankly, the system we have works almost perfectly, and all we can do to improve it is to encourage less immaturity and more helpfulness in the NP room. I'm really glad that was an option too. Oh wait...

-- Blarg

Ummm

Has anyone thought that if you did not agree with choices to just not vote?

-- BootyGod

What is the point of a poll, then....

...if we are only measuring the opinions of people that agree with your point of view, instead of the entire community?

-- QBOddBird

i agree with the jedi

-- ScY

Not here for the chat, but...

It seems to me that if all the people that are chatting in NP are sent off to Carnage, then there won't be anyone in NP to answer questions. Sure, there are mentors and ops, but they'd get pretty bored if no one else is there.

(Personally, I think the whole question is moot: anytime I go into chat, it's dead, regardless of how many people are in the chatrooms.)

-- Maelstrom

"...what would happen in carnage if about 6 of us non-regulars came in and started chatting it up anyway?..."

-- Hakai

A chat-op would tell you to quit spamming - you are interfering with important silent but deadly CB strat0rgizink

-- NSFY

keep it the way it is

it is fun to chat with new people as well as vets it should be an open chat channel and i feel that way because i got lots of help as a newb and i still get help and help people also
