Return of the Jedi was the first movie i ever say in a theatre.

The dialog in the new ones is almost fatally bad at times... George Lucas should never have sobered up from the 70s

Only 2 good things about the new movies:
1) you finally know how Anakin becomes Vader
2) The saber battles are so much better.

Other than that, the Old star wars are the best, hands down!

Old Ones

Sure, the new ones look better, and the action sequences are better due to the improvements in special effects, but the acting is pretty atrocious, and some of the plot elements are awful. The old ones win hands down!

Do I even need to mention Jar Jar Binx?

I like them all. I consider the first three episodes as essential as the last three now :P. It provides a good look into the history of the Galactic Empire and current events in IV - VI.

The old movies were great. The new ones have Anakin saying, "Well... I've got everything going for me right now... time to murder a room full of children, i guess". Need I say more?

The writing for the old ones was funny and witty (sp) , and i couldn't stop feeling embarrassed for everyone during the newer ones. The special effects on the newer ones were better, but it did look like they filmed almost everything in front of a green screen.

I like 4-6.

Seriously how could anybody vote for the newer ones? Those movies were teeeeerrrrrible. I only slightly enjoyed the third one; I like to pretend that the actor who played Anakin was sliced up, as opposed to the character. They never should have been made. Period.

I am no star wars fan.
If you look at the old ones now they don't have the special effects of todays pictures and they just look so eighties.

And the new ones are all action and explosions no really story like the old ones.

On the one side we have the nice cute, cuddly Ewoks. On the other we have the incredibly annoying Jar-Jar.

Both lose.

Episodes 4 and 5 were the only 2 worthwhile. Episode 6 was good aside from the fact cute fuzzy teddy bears can take on the stormtroopers, yea right!.

Also - Space battle in Return of the Jedi is still the best of them all (though Revenge of the Sith's opening was pretty cool).

Oldies but goodies

episode 4 was the first movie i saw as a kid in the theatres(yes im that old), makes me biased towards the older episodes. That and the fact that they were alittle gritty and much more realistic. They cleaned up the newer versions to much, and adding characters like Jar-Jar just killed it for adults like me. Though i did think episode 3 rocked, only because we(everyone) got to see the rise of Darth Vader.

I don't think anybody who wasn't around in 76/77 will understand why the oldies will prefer the first lot. I saw Star Wars in the cinema too, Easter 1977 and it was amazing. It's easy to forget that there had never really been anything like it. Fantasy/science fiction fans have been really spoilt ever since.

That opening scene in the cinema.....I still get chills thinking about it.

Always. Lucas needs to be commited for the first three... Chewy in them? The Droids? And having to be "mind wiped". Midiclorenes. The child ace pilot and virgin birth.... The only redeeming fature was Darth Maul, and the fall of Vader was terrible. It *should* have revolved aorund Obi-Wans use of the Dark Side of the force to Kill Maul in revenge for Qui Gon's death, and that Dark Side coming through to the teaching of Ani. Fundamentally warping him and leading him to the dark path. The current version is roo-bish!

The new ones...

There are some scenes in the new ones I really enjoyed: the fight with Darth Maul was good, Yoda's sabre fight and the scene where he flies in with the clone troops was impressive. But there was just something soul-less about the whole thing. It really had no heart. Where was the lovable rogue that was Solo? The hopeful innocent that was Luke? Where was the snappy dialogue? Hell, where was any dialogue that was worth listening to at all?
