Stupid me (in General)

Tygonomy February 8 2005 5:13 AM EST

I bought a HoI in the store. I was very happy with it as you can imagine. But now some-how he sold it back to the store.

Tygonomy (Tygonomy) 81.205.223.73 sell A Helm of Intelligence ($4800) 3:31 PM EST

Can't I do some-thing to get it back. I didn't want to sell the helmet back offcourse.

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] February 8 2005 5:23 AM EST

Ionstorm (Ionstorm) 216.254.165.71 buy A Helm of Intelligence ($4800) February 7 2005 3:31 PM EST

He got it in all fairness, sorry but we can't help you get it back, either we'd have to take it back off him (not happening) or get Jon to create another one (even less likely).

Maybe you can talk Ionstorm into selling it to you for a low price as it was an accident selling it back to the store. Maybe being the key word there, if he doesn't want to sell it back to you, then you just have to accept you've lost your HoI.

Tygonomy February 8 2005 7:12 AM EST

I offered him 100k for the helmet. He rejected.
I don't think Jon want's to make me a HoI. I understand it was stupid of me. What I don't understand is how it could have happend. I didn't get a pop-up with the question are you sure you want to sell it. I'm just really sad it happend that's all.

Sikorsky February 8 2005 4:05 PM EST

You only get pop-ups for expensive items.
The HoI was only 4800CB$.
Of course the market value is quite a bit higher.

deathwake February 8 2005 6:44 PM EST

"I bought a HoI in the store. I was very happy with it as you can imagine. But now some-how he sold it back to the store."

so you have 2 people in your head or what?

QBRanger February 8 2005 7:50 PM EST

When I try to sell my HOI for testing purposes, I get a pop up and my HOI is only +1. So it may be based on the selling price above NW.

Just my 2 cents.

Tezmac February 8 2005 9:34 PM EST

This happened several times to different individuals on CB1 including Shade. I'm surprised that there hasn't been more community pressure toward Ion to sell it back to you, you're offer was more than fair. Then again, I dont recognize your name, so you might be fairly new to the community and maybe that's why no one cares. I personally would like to see Ion return the HoI to you, but who cares what I think.

Steve G February 8 2005 9:38 PM EST

the HoI has already been sold to me, end of discussion =)

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] February 8 2005 9:43 PM EST

/me agrees with Tezmac.

That would be the right thing for him to do, but he is allowed to keep it if he wants.

Steve G February 8 2005 9:47 PM EST

here is the way i look at it
camping is a business, and in a business world you dont reward stupidity, jon has introduced fail safes for a reason

LumpBot February 8 2005 10:01 PM EST

Steve G, this isn't an attack on you, but that seems a bit cruel. This is a game to be enjoyed, most people play to get away from "daily life" like a business. People who ignore others misfortunes are just making it less fun for all.

Steve G February 8 2005 10:12 PM EST

like i said (and no offence to anyone) there IS a fail safe popup that he missed and its his own fault for doing that. nobody in the history of this game has been forced to sell something back to someone who stupidly sold it. noobs i can understand, but not in this case.

Ionstorm no longer has the item in question, he bought it fairly from the store as you would if it spawned naturally

Tezmac February 8 2005 10:26 PM EST

Cool, I hope you never "stupidly" hit that enter key and sell something to the store, as I sure as h-e double hockey stick wont be sending it back your way.

Steve G February 9 2005 12:32 AM EST

if i sold it then i would be just as bad as these people and deserve to have it taken, its a risk u gotta take. oh wait its not a risk, THERES A SAFETY POPUP

Mythicpunk [Mythic Punks] February 9 2005 12:56 AM EST

i believe it's been stated that he did not get the safety popup (the item was under 5k NW at the time)

Granted, it's not steve's problem, to be honest, he bought it from Ion, and Ion had seen that it was sold to the store, he said as much in chat.

Unfortunately, there's not much recourse for Tygo, except someone being nice :\

Phaete February 9 2005 1:48 AM EST

Having fun/enrichment in a game on the expense of some mistakes of others?

I indeed hope you never have to rely on someone SteveG.

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] February 9 2005 1:59 AM EST

Phaete, I normally agree with you but it's not Steve's fault (as much as I may hope he sells a rare to the store :) , no one did wrong here, Tygonomy made a mistake, Ionstorm did what he was entitled to do, be it the morally correct thing or not. Steve bought the HoI from Ionstorm, therefore has nothing to do with this, it's not his job to deal with it.

Steve G February 9 2005 2:00 AM EST

because i bought the item of debate?
ranger did tests on a HoI and he got the popup every time
i have nothing against ion and i woulda done exactly what he did in his position

Phaete February 9 2005 2:07 AM EST

If someone genuinely made a mistake, all involved parties should want to roll this back unless self enrichment takes precedence over doing the right thing.

I see people taking one side or the other, and thus stating what their main motivator is.

A typical case where the rules don't fit all contingencies and common sense needs to be used, no need of hiding behind rigid rules.

Just my humble opinion.

astirling February 9 2005 2:40 AM EST

it seems ironic that this discussion is about a Helm of Intelligence

:-)

sorry, it's late...

Tygonomy February 9 2005 4:32 AM EST

I know it was my own fault. I wanted to equippe the item. But i think I some-how hit the scroll button on my mouse. I'm 99% sure I didn't got the pop-up. I personally would have sold the HoI back but I know not every-one thinks the same way.

I really want to thank the people for there reactions. (also chatmail)

Hope when it ever happens to any-one they should have better luck. (also you steve_G)

Steve G February 9 2005 5:17 AM EST

i mean no disrespect, i was just trying to tell you the way that some people look at it

Cranium Basher February 9 2005 10:25 AM EST

Hopefully not the majority of the game...

NSFY February 9 2005 10:39 AM EST

I would give it back - it's called the golden rule. People generally don't sell rares to the store on purpose.

Tygonomy February 9 2005 11:08 AM EST

maybe they could make it that it also gives the pop-up with rares even if there not worth more then 5k. That way it won´t happen again so easely.

Spectre February 12 2005 12:04 PM EST

" ranger did tests on a HoI and he got the popup every time "

It does get a pop-up. Don't know why you didn't see it.

Tygonomy February 13 2005 5:00 PM EST

Was it a Hoi +1 ? ?

AdminShade February 13 2005 5:30 PM EST

Tygonomy (Tygonomy) 81.205.223.73 sell A Helm of Intelligence ($4800) 3:31 PM EST

for items below 5K NW you don't get the pop up menu asking if you are sure.

sorry to say but Tygonomy you were unlucky to lose it but apparently also not to gain it back.

people only make dumb remarks and this is why i will now close this post.
