Making $USD the hard way. (in General)

Todd February 16 2005 6:17 AM EST

So, I'm sitting here being bored. I'm looking through the posts, and see a heck of a lot of people selling $CB2. So, I started to wonder..

"If I were to only fight (no camping, no forging), and sell my $cb2 cash, how much would I make per hour?"

Assumptions:
1. I get $125 average per fight.
2. I do not buy BA
3. I fight 160 BA first thing when I wake up, and fight all the available BA for 16 hours per day
4. Refresh rate = 7 BA/ 10 mins
5. Selling rate is $30 US per $1M
6. I can fight at a rate of 15 fights per min(bot checks & opponent availability)

Calculation:
Total BA = 160+(16x7x6)=832 BA
Total rewards = $125 x 832 = $104,000
$USD equiv: ($104,000 / $1,000,000) x $30US = $3.12 US
Total time required to fight: (832/15)= 55.5 minutes, or (55.5/60 = 0.92 hours)

Total Earnings per hour: $3.12US / 0.92 hours = $3.39 / hr.

So, you can earn $3.39 per hour that you are actually fighting.. but consider that you can only fight less than 1 hour total per day.

We now return you to your regular programming.

So let us hear from the campers!

How many BA per hour, how many hours per day? What are you averaging in "grabs" during that time? And how much USD are you averaging per "grab"?

Info only valid from professional campers -- those using their mark ups on every pitiful bit of leather they can auction to make enough $CB2 to continue to afford high-end store items.

Well

At least 1 thing need to be added to the initial post.

It is the cost of healing between battles. This can cost anywhere from 15-78 cb2$.

LumpBot February 16 2005 8:27 AM EST

This is also under the impression you can win all your fights, so don't forget if someone rents a big tattoo on your list. Also remember the cost of buying ammo. ;)

bast wants to hear from a camper... well if i spend all day camping and get say a lesser tattoo i should have fought but if i get say a ToE its likely worth a good buck however there is a variable to camping other people do it too. it is much more difficult to camp for 12 to 16 hours as well its so tedious.

/me wipes away a tear of sympathy for the poor campers

Don't forget to consider that you also get the undying love and admiration of Jonathan for your efforts.

I've often heard that Jon likes the campers, but is there some obvious way in which he benefits from them?

FWIW, /. had an interesting article about folks selling in-game stuff for USD, unfair advantage and all that. Granted, the article focused on a company that setup such markets and the legalities around it, many of the associated links were interesting. MMORPG currency sellers. Good reading, as it applies to most every game that a so-called 'secondary market' comes up around. For players and campers who sell for $USD that make a game not a closed system any more.

I just wanted to add a couple of points to this discussion.

My first point comes from someone else in another post that I can't locate right now. The $3.39 / hr that Todd calculated is in addition to the income one gets from work. It's always nice to get a little extra money, and even nicer to get it while doing something enjoyable like play a game. It may only be $3.39 per hour, but that's $3.39 that you earned while having fun.

On other subjects, I'd also like to point to the growing number of character sales for USD. This is money that is earned on top of the $3.39 per hour.

I think Todd already calculated the cost of healing and that not alll fights are won. His estimate of $125 per fight seems very conservative to me. At 30k PR with a CoBF (yes, I know that changes the balance quite a bit), I was pulling in $150-$300 per won fight before healing fees and ammo. $125 sounds about right to balance out these fees.

Dont forget for fighting, you only consume 1 hour of sitting at a computer, to camp you are tied to computer entire time.

hehe provided you can always sell the loot for USD .. all the time :P

Another thing that I want to say, it seems not worth it for people who live in US. But for people who live in some third world countries in Asia, getting roughly 100 usd per month for just playing game (click fight) is quite something. For example, people who live in Indonesia (I happened to live in Indonesia currently), they only get around 200 usd per month for working as an accountant, etc working from 8.00 am to 5 pm. Monday to Friday, sometimes Saturday too. I've been against the use of USD in this game since CB1, but since nobody agree to that Idea, I'll just have to follow the trend and it's been quite profitable actually. :)

I'm not sure if this is off-topic or not, just want to let it out but couldn't find the right topic.

Lumpy Koala February 16 2005 11:21 AM EST

So ... you are holding a grudge against third world countries with currency values MUCH smaller than westerners ??

Maelstrom February 16 2005 12:23 PM EST

Where do you get the idea that he holds a grudge? He's saying that 3USD is worth more in "third world" countries than it is in "first world" countries.

IndependenZ February 16 2005 1:30 PM EST

By fighting, you also gain EXP. That experience will go into your character, which will grow in PR.
As soon as it reaches a desirable PR, you can sell it for USD. Therefor, you make more money than the #3,39 per hour ;)

TrueDevil [AAA] February 16 2005 2:15 PM EST

NK, I said I live in Asia currently, and I also said it's profitable, how can I hold grudge against third world countries ? I'm just saying that in third world countries playing this game could get you more real cash then working hard with the real jobs.

[Contests]Lyan[CB2BANK] February 16 2005 2:33 PM EST

Devilord, you forgot to take into account that most people in a third world country can't afford to go online 24/7 since it costs so much to do so. It is profitable if they get free phone-line/electricity/online connection however.
