The CB2 Protection Thread (revisited) (in General)

someone[onabreak] April 6 2005 4:15 PM EDT

I have spent a bit of time gathering data on the Protection spell in CB2. This thread has a lot of interesting discussion on the subject. I am starting a new thread because the old thread closed and I have updated the graph.

The data set is here, along with a graph of the derivative, showing that it becomes harder to gain Effect in Protection the higher you get. As you can tell, a couple of my data points may be a little bit bad, so I am still looking for good numbers for effect levels below effect 16. By "good numbers," I mean the lowest possible level of the spell that grants the Effect shown in parentheses. Of course, Jon may have designed the spell to gain levels that way.

I am relying largely on Eternal for the high numbers in the graph, as he has the highest Protection in the game right now (I have the second highest). I'm predicting that you'll graduate to 22 between level 88k and 90k.

Discussion is encouraged :)

You mean, graduate to 23? I'm at 22 right now with no negative bonus items. I'm still curious as to what it does, and I'm not completely sure how much longer I'm going to want to train Protection. Maybe to 25 or so?

I'm still very interested in what Protection - actually - does. But, I don't want to untrain Protection to gain data. :/

Yep, I meant "graduate to 23" ;) sorry.

And yeah, it would be nice to know the exact mechanics of the spell.

I'm very curious about how Protection works as well. Keep up the good work!

question: is this the same graph that cb1 had?

someone[onabreak] April 6 2005 6:17 PM EDT

No, it isn't. It does follow a similar trend, though. The graphs look really similar.

Protection: 89,014 (23)

Any guesses on when 24's going to come? Or 25? :P I'm definitely not going higher than 25. I swear. :x

then why all the effort, the spells are identical and only the effect is different...?

click for my graph and you can compare them to add info, or to stop looking and to know that its already there.

imo. the graph for the new protection is a lot less steep at the beginning, and follows a more linear path

AdminShade April 13 2005 11:46 AM EDT

perhaps because this graph only reaches to level 80,000 and is stretched more?

but indeed at 40,000 level CB1 protection was ~60 AC and cb2 protection then is around 17 AC effect.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] April 13 2005 4:15 PM EDT

Shade- the effect of the spell here is not AC

Has it ever been established if protection points count as % damage reduction?

ie a protection of 9 gives 9% damage reduction.

AdminShade April 14 2005 3:09 PM EDT

it isnt the same AC as armor gives you but it has to be some AC that is calculated AFTER those reductions... or it has to be given some other name :)
