HoE Auctions and On the New Economy of CB (in General)

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] May 12 2005 3:45 PM EDT

Notice how the HoE auctions all end exactly the same time? They are not stepped down at all like the ToE and ToA auctions were. This certainly avoids the wait and see approach, causing anxiety and anguish, and ultimately drives the price higher.

This game is turning into a net worth frenzy and all the recent changes and manipulations are based on greed. I may not be qualified to comment however since my net worth is so high--I guess I've been caught up in this herd mentality.

Remember back a little when change months meant something a little new and exciting? I know that was CB1 and this is CB2. But, in my opinion a change month shouldn't mean change the whole game around month.

This whole move to net worth based value is totally designed to line the pockets of you know who. It's a business and we are the consumers who gladly purchase the product. But, as sure as shootin', we are being manipulated to believe that net worth is how to achieve goals and advance. And, we are all beginning to believe it like gospel. The ToA and ToE sale that occurred is an example of how cash was spent in huge quantities and then fizzled away following the creation of the Tattoo Artist. We gladly spent and then we applauded the arrival of the artist. Sheesh! Shame on us.

AdminJonathan May 12 2005 4:09 PM EDT

you have a poor memory.

AdminShade May 12 2005 4:09 PM EDT

hmm though i don't think there will be a helmet designer made into the game next, so these helmets will be the 21 only HoE's in the game (for the moment)

Chocolate Thunder May 12 2005 4:16 PM EDT

Barron, they were staggered in the last minutes as people kept bidding on them and adding time to them.

AdminJonathan May 12 2005 4:17 PM EDT

No, that was Jonathan lining his pockets. Somehow.

CooperTX May 12 2005 4:19 PM EDT

You must have been lining your pockets when you compensated people for their HoI's and TSA's. :)

Ascent May 12 2005 4:23 PM EDT

I promise they won't all end at the same time :)

You said.... move to net worth based... believe that net worth is how to achieve goals and advance....

*move* to networth based? *believe* that networth is how to advance?

I've been playing CB1 and CB2... what CB have you been playing?? Mage CB?

Mags May 12 2005 4:24 PM EDT

When Jonathan starts selling CB2$ for USD$ I'll get worried. Until then, the upside to him seems, uh, somewhat limited.

Not that printing CB2$ would be a huge challenge for him in the first place.

Chocolate Thunder May 12 2005 4:25 PM EDT

And Barron, the reason Change months are changing so much right now is because we are still very early in the game and Jon still has much to optimize (ie. ToE nerfing day). When the dust settles in a few months, they will be less massive (though if I recall, still meaningful).

And how does linking NW to PR line Jon's pockets exactly? We give Jon money for supportership and namings, those two things aren't effected by Jon's auctions. Am I missing something else?

AdminJonathan May 12 2005 4:26 PM EDT

Barron has been playing 4T CB, and if his strat doesn't work well enough it's because Jonathan's out to get him. And line his pockets.

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] May 12 2005 4:26 PM EDT

I apologize if I'm mistaken. It proves how eye witnesses to crimes make for erroneous testimony. I thought they were listed in a staggered manner before.

As to the lining of the pockets and greed statement, I also apologize as I realize that was an unfair statement. I know that Jon takes this game very seriously, and is quite dedicated to it, as we all are for it's continued success.

I was venting, and frequently I don't do that gracefully. I'm just annoyed at the recent dominance of net worth, and annoyed at myself on how much I'm spending on this game personally in terms of time and money. So, in actuality, the one who I am angry with is myself, and as is often done I projected it to the most obvious other person--the one who has me addicted to this game.

So, once again, Jon, I apologize wholeheartedly.

Mags May 12 2005 4:33 PM EDT

Barron, the game can be just as much fun without spending any USD$. I'm a low-NW UC tank. Talk about an unconventional mess -- but my score isn't so bad, I'm part of a great clan which is by default the good guys and better than all other clans, and the community here has a lot of different intelligent interesting voices. Even people who farm me are able to cackle politely. :D

Find enjoyment where you can. CB is just a ton of fun, and keep going with a revolutionary strategy. If anything, maybe this change will help you find a way to become less dependent on NW while keeping your strategy. Pick a natural prey for a 4T team and devour.

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] May 12 2005 4:39 PM EDT

Thanks for the encouragement, advice and comforting words Mags. And Jon, I'm sticking with my 4T team come hell or high water. I'm sorry I insulted you, and after rereading my initial post, am now truly embarrassed that I post those thoughts.

Again, I regret the post, and I hope we can let bygones be bygones.

chernobyl May 12 2005 5:21 PM EDT

Barron - I actually see your real point here. Lots of money sinks, lots of new items, high-bid auctions and removed items are all making for a high-change, hard to predict economy. It's making the street value of rares fluctuate rapidly, like the "stock market"; and some people are banking out while others lose out.

But you-know-who (isn't third person great, Jon?) is doing something very important for the CB2 economy in all of this: he's regulating the amount of real cash in the game, and therefore regulating the value of the $CB2. Hey, the US has Alan Greenspan; CB has Jonathan.

The result is, "there's not much money"! (See how i tie three threads into a braid?) Well, that's a good thing - it makes people fight more so they can get the ever-important cash to get the super-expensive items! End result - more fights, and more cash flow while maintaining a regulated level of money within the game.

My applause to Jon! I've been trying to balance a game economy for months, and it is "far from easy" (read: "impossible, man!"). I forsee another huge money sink: people beefing up the HoE. Good! Money flows into the game like a river; it should flow out the same way. Some of us might be complaining; that is the best indicator that the system is working!

csraven May 12 2005 5:28 PM EDT

i like how Jon responds to everything with pocket lining, it makes me laugh...

anyway the tattoo artist was a good idea, but your right a lot of people spent a lot of money to use it... and hence it changed the balance of the game by changing the values of other tats...

it made some people very happy and strong, but it forced weaker people to completely rethink their strats... so im not sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing...

either way it lines Jon's pockets... lol...

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] May 12 2005 5:33 PM EDT

"When Jonathan starts selling CB2$ for USD$ I'll get worried. "

Don't you all--or some of you--recall the ebay auctions for cb1 money?

Central Bank: Money: $43,614,553

hmmm....

Vagabond May 12 2005 5:42 PM EDT

Where'd Central Banks Money Go

Ascent May 12 2005 5:49 PM EDT

Jon *always* likes it when people rethink their strats. I'm positive of it. :)

And yes, Jon has sold stuff in the past on ebay, but he's been very clear about that *only* being stuff that was taken from scammers/cheaters/etc, and he hasn't done an ebay auction in quite a while, if memory serves...

Jason Bourne May 12 2005 6:40 PM EDT

heh, who cares...if jon wants to sell it, more power to him! i think its cool if he can make a buck off his hard work..we are lucky this is a free game to begin with

AdminShade May 12 2005 7:03 PM EDT

These are the prices that the 20 HoE's have been auctioned for (in order from low to high price)

1102500
1102500
1102500
1155000
1157625
1157625
1177625
1181013
1200000
1200000
1202500
1250001
1340095
1350596
1351120
1351303
1400000
1407100
1425000
1500000

And this is the total amount of money that Jonathan 'made' with it.

$25.114.103

$589,002,592 total liquid assets

makes this a 4.26% cash drain :)

AdminJonathan May 12 2005 7:14 PM EDT

Central Bank funds have not been and will not be sold on ebay or anywhere else.

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] May 12 2005 7:18 PM EDT

I wonder how many of those TSAs that got deleted were named, at 5 usd a pop.

AdminJonathan May 12 2005 7:34 PM EDT

10 at the most?

Believe me, I have better ways to make $50. And if I were motivated the way you suggest I certainly wouldn't try to encourage item naming by _reducing_ the number of rares in play.

But since you insist on playing the obnoxious turd card while you wait for your girlfriend to stop beating you or whatever it is this time, I think I'm going to play the forum ban card.

AdminShade May 12 2005 7:39 PM EDT

Jonathan, 7:14 PM EDT
Central Bank funds have not been and will not be sold on ebay or anywhere else.

i didnt mean it as you making money but as making the cash drain from the system. hope to see money getting more valuable from it. :)

Lumpy Koala May 12 2005 7:45 PM EDT

well more cash drain, more demand, more value :)

Anyway, I still hope there's more HoE for sale from Jon, I prefer my cash go to Jon's char rather than campers

and I hope Jon sees my post in another thread .. sigh please make an auction that Asian minorities can bid on....without waking up at odd hours.

Ascent May 12 2005 10:12 PM EDT

Way to "let bygones be bygones" dude...

Quark May 12 2005 11:49 PM EDT

Doesn't the 48! in his name ban Barron from chat? And now he's banned from Forums too? Sux!

(Kudos Jon - I'm loving your game changes, and I'm still playing my SMTOE for a while)
