Beleg's Glitch (in General)

Warchild May 20 2005 2:24 PM EDT

Ok as I understand it Belegs grant .015 to archery for each + on the gloves.

Now normally this only adds to damage, as most people train archery up to .99 regardless, but it should add to all aspects of archery, right?

Below is a pic of my Battle with Death Spawn now it is very obvious that I fired 2 times in round one, none in round 2, and 3 times in round 3. This made me wonder so I checked my character and sure enough my archery had dropped to .99 (due to the ToA level going up) but I have +8 Belegs on (as you can see in the second pic.) Now the Belegs should be adding .09 to my archery which, as I understand it, should give me a 108% chance to attempt to strike in round 2. So why didn't I?

And for the record taking the Beleg's off does not drop my archery down to .91 so the .99 is natural.
Sorry about the pic size :/

indeed a very strange glitch...

have you checked if you do fire in all 3 rounds of ranged without the use of the belegs?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] May 20 2005 2:45 PM EDT

I have been bumping my belegs to boost my archery skill and have also noticed no change from .99 when going from +7 to +10. I do realize my ToA is growing my st, but I figured a more profound increase for adding +3.

CooperTX May 20 2005 2:47 PM EDT

Beleg's bonus does not show up in the stat, it is a non viewable bonus, just like the VA on MH and BoT.

Jason Bourne May 20 2005 2:57 PM EDT

whats even more amazing, is that even though his archery is a 99% he still didnt fire. i usually keep mine at 90-100% because i feel thats a good enough chance to hit three times in ranged anywyas. besides my bow sucks :D

Warchild May 20 2005 3:02 PM EDT

Shade I did try a couple fights with out the BG and there were a couple of fights that i did not fire in round 2 (but no more or less than with the BG on)

Sefton tell me about it. I am beginning to think that Jon actually made the BG a placebo just to see if anyone would notice.

Coop I am perfectly aware that the stat increase does not show on the character page the problem is it does not seem to be showing in the fights either. I had (when this was posted) .99 archery naturally and .09 added by the BG giving me a virtual archery of 1.08. Any thing from 1.00 up should fire in the second round EVERY time yet I obviously didn't.

AdminShade May 20 2005 3:06 PM EDT

the not firing in second round while Archery = 1.00 is a mystery and a bug imo.

however if i recall correctly Beleg's never have added the 'firing' ability but only the damage part of it... (at least i never have seen them doing it since they were created in cb1)

CooperTX May 20 2005 3:08 PM EDT

Sorry warchild I was responding to Sefton...

Who said that the Beleg granted Archery would increase the chance of an even round hit? I doubt that was Jonathan ;)

Beleg archery just increases bow damage. That you don't hit in round 2 is a 1 in a hundred chance, because you happen to have archery at 0.99 instead of the normal 1.00.

Warchild May 20 2005 3:54 PM EDT

Bart why wouldn't it add to the chance that you would strike in the second round? BG's grant archery and the ability to fire in the second round is a huge part of the skill (even more important than the extra damage imo.)

I don't see why the archery that the BG add should be different than the skill. If someone were to spend the (insane) money to raise a pair of BG to +67 (which would add 1.005 to archery) they should have the exact same thing as if they had a 1.00 in trained archery in all aspects.

I will admit that I assumed a couple of things when I called this a glitch...namely that when the item description says it grants archery that it actually grants archery not just an increase in bow damage.

Chargerz-Back May 20 2005 4:01 PM EDT

my archery is at 1.00 and i always fire in the second round with belegs

Undertow May 20 2005 4:18 PM EDT

If Belegs only grant a % increase to bow damage, they should be presented that way.

Saying they grant archery, if they don't, is very misleading.

bartjan May 20 2005 5:27 PM EDT

Maybe this 364 day old post will help ;)

bartjan May 20 2005 5:33 PM EDT

Also, from Train->Spell and Skill descriptions: "Grants extra damage during ranged combat. Only affects bows, not other ranged weapons."

Isn't this *exactly* what Beleg's do?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] May 20 2005 6:07 PM EDT

so Bart you are saying then that the more + I put on my Beleg's the more damage each arrows will do? What's this .015 stuff for, to simply make sure I get my full 15% of damage increase, when I can do that with 1/4 the trained exp into my archery compared to ST. If the only thing Belegs do is grant additional archery of .015% per + then they are worth a lot less than I thought. At a cost of 15 exp per archery point, it only costs 150,000 exp points to take a base archery up to full archery with 40,000 ST points. Im spending between 100 and 1mil CB2 $ to upgrade Beleg's that only relieve me the necessity of training a very small portion of my experience, that cannot be right.

I thought bows fire in all rounds even without archery, no?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 20 2005 6:17 PM EDT

No.

Only Slings/Slingstaves (Slingstaffs?) do.

Crossbows will only ever shoot every other round. Including melee rounds.

Bows shoot every other round unless archery is trained, which (in addition to increased damage) gives a percentage chance of shooting in the second ranged round. Archery doesn't help in melee, so bows go back to shooting every other melee round (starting from the second melee round).

I hope this helps!

Warchild May 20 2005 6:28 PM EDT

No, war, bows do not normally fire in all three rounds

Bart just because the description of archery does not specifically say that it allows bows to fire in all three ranged rounds does not mean that it is not part of the skill. Any item that grants archery should grant the same abilities that the skill does (whether or not that ability is specifically stated)
