Help naming items. $50K per item. (in Contests)
I've named my Displacement Boots 'Blur' and my ToA 'Might. Now I want to name these four things: HoD, Mithril Shield, Elven Gloves, and Arrows. I'm looking for a single word that describes that item. For instance, one of the ways to look at the effect that DBs have on the minion wearing them is to think that they make him blurry.
1) Helm of Durin: provides protection, mainly of the head. Could be something like 'steadfast', 'protector', 'cover'. None of those seem right. What property does the Helm have that would serve it as a good name?
2) Elven Gloves: They provide two things: armor and dexterity. 'Speed' might be a good name. 'Mercury' perhaps. A word that describes both its effect on AC and DX would be ideal. I can't think of one.
3) Mithril Shield: 'Stolid' is the best I can come up with. 'Shield' is actually not a bad word that sums up what it does, but is there something better? 'Wall'?
4) Arrows: What property do arrows have? 'Piercers'? 'Penetrators'? 'Slicers'? 'Deaths'? Again, I can't come up with something that seems right.
I'm looking for a single word. Not a compound word like 'Deathbringers' or 'Blowstopper'. Whoever comes up with the best word for each item will receive $50K per word I use. Don't just raid the thesaurus. I can do that as well. The winning word will be unlikely to be a straight synonym of 'Helm', for instance. Although perhaps one of its synonyms will have a separate set of synonyms where the right word is just waiting to be picked out.
It's conceivable that I won't like any of the words. In that case, I may give out consolation prizes. Be certain, though, in that case I'll be picking quality entries, not quantity. I don't want you to post 100 words, hoping one of them will stick. I want quality.
Thanks.

1 Skull - provides protection of the brain - seems like a good single word to me for a HoD
2 Nimble - speedy and lightfooted or Digital - of the fingers obviously but also quick like computers (not my ancient computer but....)
I'll get my brain working on the others....

Another one for arrows:
Rain. simple explanation for this and it's why I have a compound called 'Rushing Storm'. In a lot of movies featuring a lot of archers ( LOTR Two Towers comes to mind or The Last Samurai) there's always a shot of hundreds of arrows flying through the air and to me it always looks like the rain during a heavy storm.

Almuric,
another one for the gloves: And in this case if you like it give yourself the 50k because you gave me the idea! Another word for mercury is 'quicksilver'....?

Almuric, one more thing, which you may have forgotten. Any name you give to arrows automatically gets an 's' put on the end by the system, because you name a single arrow.
So if you name your arrows 'arrows' they will become 'arrowss' when there is more than one.
Just in case you had forgotten that or even, didn't know!
You can tell I'm not too busy at work today can't you......
1) Helm of Durin: Sturdy | Wit
2) Elven Gloves: Dextrous | Elegance
3) Mithril Shield: Thick | Valor(Valour if you are NOT american and spell things in English instead of bastardizing the language!) | Belief
4) Arrows: Targetter | Direction | Dissendence
/me goes away to think of more

II, learn to spell before you get too high and mighty about English. Although dextrous is an accepted form of dexterous, there are no such words as targetter and dissendence.
There's some good ones here. GBee, I like 'surround' for the shield. That's the best so far. It describes a property of the item, which is what I was going for.
'Quicksilver' or 'Flash' for the gloves sound like the best so far.
I like Targe(t)ter(s) for the arrows, although that's more a name for the bow and it's not really a word. And Johnny, I did remember about the extra 's', that's why all the examples I gave were plurals. Whatever word is chosen will have to look OK with an 's' at the end.
I don't see any words for the helm that strike my fancy yet.
None of these words are winners yet, so more entries would be good. Thanks for the help.

I thought you might be aware of that one! But some of the newer players might not have known.
another one for arrows:

2 - "Synergy" - two forces combining to make a single stronger force.
3 - "Sentinel" - one that keeps gaurd.
4 - "Spirits" or "Stealth" - Hey I like my "s" words :)

I still don't like any of the names for helm and arrows. I'm leaning towards 'steadfast' for the helm, although I briefly flirted with 'brainpan'.
As for the arrows, does anyone know of a medical term that means 'hole in the body'? Something like 'cavity' or 'puncture wound'. I know, I'm reaching. I'd really like to complete the theme, though.
Arrows: cavity, vacuity, penetrate, abscess, rupture, perforate, fissure, gouge, pierce, lance.
The issue here is whether you intend for the words to be nouns, verbs, or modifiers of either the object "arrows" or their attendant action.

Thanks for the 50k :D
Arrows: aeroembolism:
Definition of aeroembolism:
noun: obstruction of the circulatory system caused by air bubble as, e.g., accidentally during surgery or hypodermic injection...
Helm: Resolute or stalwart or hardy
Bast, I intend for them to be nouns (although I guess gerunds would be OK too. ;} ). They describe a property of the item or a property the minion acquires by equipping the item. Sort of like an old battleship would have been named 'Intrepid' or 'Steadfast'.
GBeee, I like the 'aeroembolism', especially the way it's alliterative with arrow. You're definitely thinking along the right lines.
Vacuity is good too, though. '2346 Vacuities'. Does that look OK? Or '1935 Aeroembolisms'?

arrows - vaccines, inoculations
Well, I guess that's all I'm going to get. Since this has dropped off the active list, I'm assuming everyone's lost interest. But, for the record, I've decided on 'Steadfast' for the helm and 'vacuities' for the arrows. Absence of matter seems like something a bow of khaos would shoot. But, of course, I also have seeker arrows, so 'aeroembolisms' could make an appearance at some point.
Thanks everyone for your input it was much appreciated. Many of the entries were close to what I wanted, so I'm going to have to assume you're all smarter than I gave you credit for. (A back-handed complement if I ever heard one.) :p
Bast, your $50k is on the way. I guess I'll have to pay myself for the other name. Beer me.
heh, just another one for fun...
Future Puncture Wounds... :D those would be cool arrows
Agreed, if 'Future Pucture Wounds' could be expressed in one word. Darn limitations of the English language!
Fabulous! Many thanks. :)
