always had respect I just now have more :)

Warchild July 1 2005 4:14 AM EDT

Wow, while I have always had a very high respect for firemen and knew that it was a high stress job, I never would have guessed that there would be that many LODD heart-attacks.

I special thank you to therea1ki11er and all other firemen out there. We appreciate everything you do to protect the lives around you.

Chargerz-Back July 1 2005 4:15 AM EDT

why are so many having heart attacks in their 20s and 30s?

[corrected]TheRealKiller July 1 2005 5:10 AM EDT

im only a voulentair firemen in a very small town and if there is a house fire you better believe there is stress and alot of smoke "cough cough" so i can guess why some young people have heart-attacks :(

3 Feb 2 firefighters Hertfordshire, UK Trapped

PFFFT they were trapped and no one saved them, maybe the other firemen didn't like them?

Warchild July 1 2005 7:40 AM EDT

Aco I do not say this to many people but: You, sir, are an idiot!

I guarantee that everyone of the co-workers of every person listed on that page did everything they could to save them.
And while you will probably come back and say that you were just joking and that i should lighten, up even joking around about something like that is very inappropriate.

first rule of a fireman is to prevent to get yourself in danger, so if they were trapped the other would first make it safe for the other to get 2 out without getting themself in danger.
its kind of a dumb rule but if you like your life you beter stick to it

I asked Moto why so many heart attacks, he said if you think about it going to 100% from dead sleep is tough on the heart

bartjan July 1 2005 1:07 PM EDT

The heart attacks I can understand (but they still are a lot), but what about the firemen that died from a chronic liver disease, while doing their duty?

[EG] Almuric July 1 2005 2:11 PM EDT

Here's why firemen die of heart attacks. A complete set of turnout gear can way over 50 lbs, more if you're carrying oxygen along. Along with having to carry/drag a heavy hose and nozzle...

I haven't fought fires in my civilian life, but I had to do in the Navy. Went to Treasure Island (San Francisco bay) to get specialized training. They had mock-up ships where they could flood the bilges with JP-5 (jet fuel), set it on fire, then send your team in to put it out. They could reflash the fire behind you to see what you'd do if you had fire both in front and back of you. On a hot summer day, in firefighting gear, in the middle of a fire, there are definitely times when your heart is working at greater than rated capacity. A blowout is not unexpected.

Aco July 1 2005 3:08 PM EDT

did some of these guys get run over or something?

[corrected]TheRealKiller July 1 2005 3:19 PM EDT

almuric is right, when its very hot and there is a fire you do work for 2 and so does your hart.
but as a fireman you choose for it so they know what could happen:/
