DD changes + new item (in Changelog)
AdminJonathan
September 22 2005 8:57 PM EDT
- FB damage reduced by ~20%
- MM damage reduced by ~16%
- CoC damage reduced by ~14%
- New item: Alatar's Gloves grants 1% bonus to DD per plus (just like a
CoI). See Items Overview for details.
I am running a trade-in program for AG. Here's how it works:
- you send Central Bank one of {Elven Gloves, Tulkas' Gauntlets, Beleg's
Gloves}, and I will send back a base pair of AG (no matter how
upgraded your gloves were).
- All items sent to Central Bank will be destroyed.
- This offer is only valid for the next 48h.
- Handouts of AG are subject to my availability, keeping in mind that
I have both a day job and two kids. Please exercise patience.

Will these gloves be coming out in auctions like other rares or just via the tradein program?
AdminJonathan
September 22 2005 9:02 PM EDT
they will spawn normally; the trade-ins are just to start things off

September 22 2005 9:07 PM EDT
Does this mean you'll remove the melee penalties on Fireball, too, or will that remain the same? Just curious, since it's been nerfed pretty hard.

very interesting a silent Fire Familiar nerf. smooth
QBsutekh137
September 22 2005 9:11 PM EDT
It is a complete DD familiar nerf. The only familiar left untouched is the ToJ. Sounds fair to me.

September 22 2005 9:22 PM EDT
The only familiar left untouched is the ToJ.....that was the first one to get hit

September 22 2005 9:38 PM EDT
Jon, you may have stated this already, but can a person send you two of your specified items and receive 2 pairs of AGs?
AdminJonathan
September 22 2005 9:41 PM EDT
yes
Untouchable
September 22 2005 11:22 PM EDT
I am also curious that since the huge nerf takes alot of damage out of FB/CoC/MM.....that you may take out the "Splash" affect of FB during melee rounds.
Nice gloves btw :]

Twofer! I get a ToA and a mage nerf! Rock on the RoE tank!

September 23 2005 1:27 AM EDT
Nay to the removal of fb splash effect :)

good question GL.
Jonathan let the HG also be a part of the trading program, please!

I was going to buy Tulks for my wall last week - I wish I had now!!!!
Nice change on the DD spells for me - I may be running a mage team but so are most of my fightlist!!!
Nice item - just right for holding onto that Mage Staff that we're going to get next....lol
Now if I could just see the upgrade costs. I'm going to presume those become hugely expensive....

wow, good thing I saved that pair of BG's. :)

September 23 2005 4:50 AM EDT
Great, new gloves new ways of upgrading magic damage.
-20% damage would make you need +20 AG's though :P
Will [Retired]
September 23 2005 4:55 AM EDT
you'd need +25 AGs now because you'd be working upwards...
:S
[T]Vestax
September 23 2005 5:04 AM EDT
+14 (same as my CoI) will just good enough for me.

September 23 2005 5:33 AM EDT
lol, I was already wondering why my score was dropping so hard. Nice changes though, FB/DM single mages will now be a lot harder to use.

September 23 2005 6:46 AM EDT
Just a question. Will the + on the AGs count towards AC like a CoI or will it be like a corn?
[T]Vestax
September 23 2005 6:53 AM EDT
Well, that would be the same either way. The corns plus _does_ add to AC. It's the MgS and DB's that don't because of the amazingly cheap upgrade cost that is required.

September 23 2005 6:56 AM EDT
sigh.. I think Beleg and Tulka will be VERY rare 48 hours later.
/me smacks himself for not bidding on one sooner :(
Of all the times for me to have my BG in rentals ... now I won't be able to sell em ... lol This was the one shot for me to get a 1/2 way decent price out of them and I'm going to miss it .. oh well ... I like the gloves ... give the mage a good pair of gloves + reduce their damage = spend money to get back to where u just were ... glad I have the CoC mage :P

September 23 2005 8:39 AM EDT
I collected 4 Elven Gloves for my mage team just for old time sake. It turned out to be a good thing. Thanks Jonathan. ^_^
ok this is insane ... people are paying a mil for and set of the gloves? wow ... I thought i was paying an arm and a leg when I got a pair of TG for 600k just to trade them in :P
QBOddBird
September 23 2005 10:34 AM EDT
People get kind of silly when they see something new. It'll be down shortly.
QBJohnnywas
September 23 2005 10:50 AM EDT
Taking a long term view this is starting to look less like a nerf and more a way of giving Mage's a chance to leverage their PR with some NW. People will be looking to get their DD's back to level but in the longer term that single input of cash will pay off handsomely - after all 10% of a 5k FB is nothing but 10% of a 500,000 and higher starts to look like a good return for you money...
QBOddBird
September 23 2005 10:56 AM EDT
yeah, but its not 20% FB level reduced - its 20% FB damage. Say I *am* the level 1 mil FB mage (BCS) and I lose 20% of the damage I do. (500k goes down to 400k). Then I get Alatars gloves and CoI and get a 25% increase (1.25m FB). I still haven't reached my former damage, I've spent a lot of dough...it really *is* a nerf, make no mistake about that. Just thought I'd clarify.
QBJohnnywas
September 23 2005 10:59 AM EDT
Yeah you're right, I'm wrong there - blame my health I'm full of flu! Not thinking too straight this afternoon lol!
But still hand in hand with a new mage item does level it off a little. Although I agree with whoever it was that said why cut MM down so much? Is MM really worth it at the moment?
AdminJonathan
September 23 2005 11:02 AM EDT
increasing the level by 25% will indeed give you the damage you had before this, since DD level is directly proportional to damage
either you didn't understand this or you're really bad at math :)
Maelstrom
September 23 2005 11:06 AM EDT
The MM and CoC nerfs are very good news, but the FB nerf was completely uncalled for! :p
And I can't wait to get myself some of these new gloves.
Quick, everyone stock up on HoDs and HoEs to trade in when Jon brings back the HoI!
so Oddbird 80% of 625k is less than 500k?
I'm not the most genius at Maths (I'm not an idiot either) but you aren't going to lose more than 125k with the 20% reduction at that level.
It certainly is a nerf and probably a decent one, sure for mages it is take with one hand and give back with the other (but its still a nerf) DD familiars feel it most.
QBOddBird
September 23 2005 11:10 AM EDT
Hah! Whoops, my bad. It's actually exactly 500k. I mis-calculated. Granted, my statement that it is indeed still a major nerf stands uncorrected, but it isn't as bad of a nerf as I had previously thought. (I would pick the exact percentage that brought it up to its previous level *snickers at self*)
And this is the reward I get for spending 3 tuition hours in a Cal 1 class...
QBJohnnywas
September 23 2005 11:13 AM EDT
Maybe I should trust my flu addled brain more than my normal one... lol!
QBOddBird
September 23 2005 11:16 AM EDT
In explanation of why MM got nerfed when it was weak already, I think GL was the one said why (inadvertantly) - something to the effect of the damages that come in the first rounds shouldn't be the strongest...Therefore, because MM hits in ranged rounds, it takes a fair sized nerf. FB does all 4 rounds, it takes the biggest. CoC takes one with the rest because its a DD (just guessing here, but it made sense when I read it, even though he was talking about archery at the time.)
QBJohnnywas
September 23 2005 11:16 AM EDT
How to pull the wool over Johnnywas' eyes. Call him on a maths question. He'll back down shaking and shivering in the corner....
sorry I really am sick this afternoon, everything is making me laugh....lol
OB.
In that case, remove the ranged penalties from all DD spells. They are already penalised for 'going first'.
MM s damage was reduced because it was too easy for all DD spells to do damage.
MM is still the worst of the three DD spells though.
3 spells?? we still have decay :)
*Shrugs* Decay does damage in it's own special way. It's chosen for this capacity and not really compared to the other three DD spells.
I'll rephrase. MM is still the worst out of FB, MM or CoC.
Pedant. :P
QBOddBird
September 23 2005 11:44 AM EDT
yeah, it is. And I do agree there - shouldn't either (A the splash effect be removed from FB or (B the ranged penalties be removed from these spells?
Since CoC targets multiple minions, I've never really understood why it DIDN'T have a splash effect also. Maybe they should all have splash effects, or all have no splash effects.
Special J
September 23 2005 1:12 PM EDT
On the same hand I guess they should all fire in ranged and do the same amount of damage.
But then..where would the true choice lie?
[T]Vestax
September 23 2005 1:13 PM EDT
Because CoC mages are inherently smarter and wiser then the greedy power grubbing FB mages. :)
By the way, has anyone figured out the forging formula for this thing yet?
check the stats / overview .. unforgeable
QBsutekh137
September 23 2005 1:27 PM EDT
It is not able to be forged, according to the item meta-stats.
[T]Vestax
September 23 2005 1:32 PM EDT
I guess I should post this here too. Think about what this does to AMF, then you'll realize that this is balanced.
[T]Vestax
September 23 2005 4:07 PM EDT
Yeah, I noticed that now. Well, at least I don't feel like I was wasting a thing when I blacksmithed it to +7. I just couldn't wait for a forging formula to be worked out anyhow. =P
well that would certainly explain why ive been losing to a couple of ppl :S a 30% total dmg reduction on my team /me :( though the new DD gloves makes /me happy :D
Jerk
September 24 2005 11:17 AM EDT
Am I the only DD caster that really wasn't affected by this change??? I am still winning against same ppl before change and after as well. My AMF is still blocking pretty close to same amount as before (its a bit higher because I have trained it some) and my FB might be 20k weaker. But what matters is that after its all said and done I am standing and they are laying dead. NOw this is same for solo opponents as well as multi minioned opponents. And I am not wearing AG's either.
[T]Vestax
September 24 2005 12:07 PM EDT
If you consider me a mage team then I guess your not the only one. I didn't have to remove anyone from my list. Plus a few people above me now draw against me. I got loads of free xp and cash the day of the change.
gooey muppet
September 24 2005 12:37 PM EDT
I have an FF/E/FB mage team and my fights weren't affected at all by the change. And slapping on a pair of altar gloves didnt really change anything either.
shrug.
QBOddBird
September 24 2005 12:57 PM EDT
My score dropped 20k, and I dropped my top few people on my fightlist. They're back, and so is my score. Wasn't *too* terrible of a nerf, after all. =)
{CB1ate}aupStar
September 24 2005 11:14 PM EDT

September 24 2005 11:38 PM EDT

Jerk
September 25 2005 12:05 PM EDT
Well I rented a pair of +10 AG's to see if it had that great an influence on my fight. It increased my FB 77k so I do indeed cause more dmg and only increased my PR 20k or so. Guess its worth it to have a pair of them after all.
