People and their nicknames... (in Off-topic)

AdminShade September 29 2005 6:07 PM EDT

Warning: this is not meant as super serious but merely as something to think about yourself. Who give you a certain nick name and why do they choose that nick name.

For the past few weeks I have been 'tormented' by various players that all have some kind of special nick name for me.

originally on CB1 i only had a few, for special players.

but now i have like 5 different names:

Shadah (which is an older (CB1) one but still a nick name)
Tree
(Slim) Shady
Shadehpoo
Shadie

and perhaps even a few that i have forgotten again...

What's with these people and their nick names? Do they like me so much that they have a special name for me or do they try to annoy me with them?

Anyway I hope on the first explanation I think, don't know why else they would try to annoy me with names, there are far better ways :p

I don't feel special :( I don't have an online nickname :(

Unwanted Memories September 29 2005 6:40 PM EDT

Shade, be lucky that you have simply an online nickname, in college, I somehow earned the nickname Bear... Due to Rey's influence.. Bear an otherwise fun and entertaining name has turned to:

Ally Bear, Pookie Bear, Cuddle Bear,Tenshi Kuma ( translated Angel Bear), Ocito de Beluche ( i think it translates into a stuffed little bear), Bear bear, and oddly enough Baby bear... Now mind you i am 6'4 roughly 275lbs... so your nicknames are somewhat entertaining, mine are just plain disturbing...

QBRanger September 29 2005 6:42 PM EDT

Shademiester, Shadeorama, The Big Shade :P

AdminShade September 29 2005 6:57 PM EDT

Shadester, another one i forgot :P

tscm September 29 2005 6:58 PM EDT

well... I have a few nicknames myself, for instance, mutt, pup, tscmeh, the silly carping man, the stupid cursive mice, tactical super commando minions, and well, <Shade> the list is endless :P

{CB3}-HR22 October 1 2005 1:46 PM EDT

Shade, we give you names because we love ya! :P

One of my funny nicknames is: Razzle Dazzle

AdminG Beee October 1 2005 1:52 PM EDT

I don't really have a nickname for you.

However, if I close my eyes and think "Shade" - yup, I still see a dancing chicken :)

AdminShade October 1 2005 1:58 PM EDT

bah! i'm not a chicken!

gets himself out of cb as quickly as he can ;p

Relic October 1 2005 2:02 PM EDT

I myself lean toward Shadykins...but maybe that is just me. :P

Stephen Young October 1 2005 2:43 PM EDT

For some unexplained reason, people call me VK. Even people who have never heard this nickname before seem to knowingly acknowledge me as VK... isn't that creepy?

Undertow October 1 2005 6:35 PM EDT

I get 'Tow. Which is okay. And 'Toe, which sends me into a blood thirsty rage.

My Dagohir character name (www.dagorhir.com) is Trevelyan, and I get "True Value."

My real name is Jimmy, I've been called Jummy, and Charlie, on a regular basis before.

QBJohnnywas October 1 2005 6:58 PM EDT

dancing like a chicken. heh.

Let me tell you about nicknames. I'm the 10th of 11 children in my family, and the youngest of 9 boys - yes, the "baby brother". In the last 25 years I've had:
Billy Joe, Mastadon, Stoopid, PotatoHead, Spud, Battleship Bill, Will, Willy, Billiam, Mr. Bill, Haystacks Calhoun, Angelman, JuJu, and thousands of variations on my last name which I won't even get into... :)

YNM October 1 2005 10:43 PM EDT

Shaadehpoo is totally mine. And bud, it's all cause we love you.

Quark October 3 2005 12:13 PM EDT

Woah - 11 kids. OMG!

I have to get rid of my entire set of current friends. The reason? The way they introduce me to other people. I have an easy to remember but not so common English last name. My friends introduce me by this last name. However, nobody is told why they call me that. Some people have assumed it is a nickname, which technically it is not since it really is a part of my name. Others have actually gone so far to believe it is my first name.

Sometimes it will take weeks for me to even meet these people in person and have a chance to straighten them out, but of course by then the name has stuck and hence they simply continue to use this name. It sometimes will not even help if I am there at the point of introduction. Then when they do the introducing they perpetuate the cycle.

What is even worse is that instead of having numerous nicknames of another nickname or nicknames of my first name, I have indeed contracted nicknames of my last name.

As for here on CB. I have been called V, Ves, Vest, Vestax, GPV, and a bunch of others that I can't remember. None of mine seem to be as cute as yours Shade, so I'll assume they must think you're adorable.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 3 2005 7:26 PM EDT

Heh. It's an East London thing. You get called by your last name in school.

As for the best real life name's I've encountered, this is the good list;

Ishmail Ishmail
Smeezus (some last name..)
Donald McDonald
Bob Roberts
Louie St. Louie
Jack Ryder
Mr Manlove
B. J. Daily
Paul My... (Can't finish name)
Wayne Kabel

All true names I assure you!

But the top of the pile goes to a relative of my best mate;

William William Williams!

Beat that! ;)

Oh yeah, I thought of a real one. The real name of a janitor at the high school I went to was ... (drum roll) ...

Billy Broome

No joke!

[EG]Stump October 3 2005 8:10 PM EDT

I picked up one of my three online nicks from undertow.

I work as a manager at a well known pizza chain and one night undertow was hanging out watching me work.
I also have been sporting a clean shaven head ever since i took the job.

He noticed how i handle customers and immediatley started calling me the pizza nazi.

(sigh, obligatory note to people who jump to conclusions)
(The name is a Seinfeld reference and not a reference to groups of dumb people that have the same haircut as i do.)

Undertow October 4 2005 2:28 AM EDT

NO PIZZA FOR YOU!

gooey muppet October 4 2005 2:29 AM EDT

Y'know i still haven't gotten a complaint for saying that to people.

tscm October 11 2005 6:39 PM EDT

lol

LumpBot October 11 2005 9:08 PM EDT

Since I was born I was called Wing-Nut because my dad had worked in the Navy. All the recruits had their heads shaved and looked like Wing-Nuts (You put them on a bolt). I did not have this problem as a baby but it still stuck to me.

As for silly names, 2 kids in my county are brothers and no doubt they are "Orange Jello" and "Lemon Jello". Also a middle east kid near here has the first name of "Pancake" =P

AdminShade November 1 2005 5:32 PM EST

just remembered 2 nicknames:

LampShade
Edash
