AxBow damage (in General)

I have one of the bigger AxBows in the game. It is named. I just had the Blacksmith take it from x48+50 to x49+50, and I was curious how much more damage I'd see from the increase in viciousness.

Turns out, for a $880k NW increase, very, very little.

I fought 5 opponents 5 times each and recorded the damage. Then I had the AxBow upgraded and fought the same 5 opponents again. In 3 of the cases, my damage went down. Overall the change in damage across all five was a wash, +0.1% increase.

I had been using 10x2+1 bolts, so I tried using 10x4+1 to see how that affected damage. Overall the damage went up, +2.6% increase.

So damage-wise, I'd be better off using more expensive ammo than upgrading the AxBow. Of course, the increase on the x gives a better decrease on the opponents DX. But I was really expecting the damage to increase noticeably.

Does this seem right?

If anyone wants to look at my data, feel free to grab the spreadsheet.

The axbow is not susposed to be used for damage. I have tried a x44 vs a x48 axbow in the past on my tank and noticed about 2-3% more damage. However, the dex drain, will go up as the x goes up.

You are much better off, upping the + rather than the x, your axbow should be draining around 170K per hit of DX at x49.

Once you get up that high or even not that high, its just a complete waste of money to take it higher. I have tried Xbows as high as x48 and of course used my own at x36...I did not notice much difference at all. Maybe 2k on a hit. Not enough to justify the money to get it.

Swords and Hammers...yes..to a point as the Base is higher.

Actually with Melee weapons adding to the x does matter quite a lot as the NW of the x is figured into the damage you do. So even that x2 that may cost 2 million is worth it as you get more of a boost then just the x.

So, you are saying that having a high NW weapon is good as its NW is applied against the defending NW?

As I understand, and I may be wrong, the answer to your question is yes. But it is only the NW on the x side of the weapon that is used for damage calculations. The NW on the + side is not applied.

in cb1 the heavy crossbow of Todd had such huge NW that the NW also took a part in the damage calculation...

As I understood it, the NW of a weapon only effects damage by how much it's been used to increase the 'X' of that weapon.

With the same base and 'X' two weapons of different NW will do the same potential damage.

Of course no melee weapons share the same base damage (that I can remember) so every melee weapon of the same 'X' or even same NW will have different damage potentials.

But two different ranged weapons, with the same base and 'X' values should have the same damage potential regardsless of NW. Which makes sense in a way, as they would have the same 'X' upgrade costs as they both have the same base....

Meaning the NW of the 'X' upgrade is the only NW that contributes to damage potential, as it's the only portion of NW that increases the 'X' value. :)
