Question about higher NW weapons. (in General)

Gilgamesh2090 [NCB Shop] January 4 2006 5:58 PM EST

Whats better X or + and why. here are the stats A Morgul-Hammer [84x97] (+71) 20,554,304. What should I get forged?

Go X. All the big db's out there make the PTH additions (even given your ToA) wasted.

Synco January 4 2006 6:03 PM EST

Go +. If your opponents have big DBs and you can't hit 'em, you're weapon's going to waste. ;)

Depends entirely upon your tank.......

heavy AC? Heavy "X", with a low DX you wont be getting many hits anyways, might as well make em count

light AC? Heavy "+", might not do as much damage, but with higher DX you can hit over and over and...

Gilgamesh2090 [NCB Shop] January 4 2006 6:10 PM EST

I have balanced ST and DX, both of fair quality.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] January 4 2006 6:16 PM EST

A good balance of both is always needed, as I am sure you know, from what I remember, the "X" gets very expensive, very fast, around x125. Once you hit that barrier, you should work more on "+".

get to +102 first, and then the X again.

This makes you able to get an additional hit, i believe

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 4 2006 6:18 PM EST

the nw added by upping + also adds to damage (or at least it used to)
always made sense to me to up + first...

First of all, get the thing named.

For 5 usd or 400k CB2 (if you do not have a paypal account) you will immediately get another x3 and +3. If you get the x to 101 then you will get a bonus of x4 from the naming.

Since you use a TOA you get a nice pth from it. Looking at the highest DB's out there, +150, I would want my weapon pth to be at least that. So given an estimate of your TOA pth about 65 or so, I would want my MH to be at least +85. Also at +151 pth you start to get quad hits.

Now if you want to forget about Imp, TAB and Krang for now, the next highest DB's are +112. Then your pth is high enough, and I would forge the x for a long time.

In conclusion, personally, if you are hitting all your opponents, get the x forged at least to x101 and get your MH named.

novice: when was that ever the case?

QBRanger January 4 2006 8:45 PM EST

Jon, in an earlier thread, confirmed that the NW from the + on a weapon does not increase the damage.

bartjan January 4 2006 9:58 PM EST

Nowhere on the "Reforge an item with a Name of Power" does it mention anything about the bonus to the damage modifier or to-hit being rounded.

Lower NW:
Until you can afford to get to around +50, don't upgrade the + at all, just focus on the x. + upgrades will make no noticeable difference, x upgrades will make a big difference.

Moderate NW:
Once you have something like x60 + 50 it's time to start focussing on your strategy, which would help you more? It's entirely dependent on your strategy, there is no right or wrong. I recall in CB1 I used to be very competetive with a friend's character. He'd upgraded his + with most of his NW, I pumped my x like crazy and got about x90 (about equal NW in each weapon), yet our characters always drew with one another, had either of us switched from + to x or x to +, we would have instantly lost because it would not have worked well with the rest of our character.

High NW:
High NW?? If you're still asking which is best, pretend that weapon is a mediocre weapon. Take a look at your character and think "Where am I going to take this character in the future? And when I get there, which will serve me best, x or +?".
Then back that decision and if you made the right decision, you'll do very well.

I would say that your weapon is almost ready to start on the +'s. get to 100, then start the +'s. once your +100, work on the x's again until you find that you need to start hitting them. then the +'s get to be pumped.

or you can roll a dice.
1-3 = x.
4-6 = +.

Another method: upgrade whatever is the cheapest ;)
