Public Record Fund - aka "Monty insurance" (updated) (in General)

BootyGod January 11 2006 4:46 PM EST

Founders: MaLicious and G-Wolf

This is an organization that me and MaL decided to form because we believe that even though the forum does not give items / cash back (understandable so) we believe that many players should still get something to make the loss of goods easier to bear. We have made a character under my account named "Public Record Fund". We just wanted to state here that this is a completely non-profit Fund and we will take no tax or income of any kind from it. We are doing this solely because we want to make the better place (as I am sure many of you will hate us for).

We would gladly accept any and all donations from any player willing to contribute. It can be tiny (but cash only please) or large. This is to increase the amount of people we can help. Also I want to state that who we help out will be completely up to me and MaL and we will not be swayed by anything other then our personal decision on a case by case basis on to who gets what. This is to make sure we are not accused of bias or any other form of scamming.

The character to send all donations to is: Public Record Fund

Once again only with a deal that was broken in PR can we take any interest in a case. Also just because you lack money or are "poor" we will not give moeny to you. Also do not try to scam us by getting you and your friend to get together post a faulty PR and then ask for money. If we notice anything like that we will of course not send anythign and never send you anything in case something did happen.

Thank you for your time.

Note: a link to a thread will always be needed in order to prove you lost out on money.

Note 2: We will be keeping tabs on who donates so we can take it into account if that person ever gets scammed. If anyone wants to check whos donated what to check my biography.

Note 3: Just to let everyone know it has nothing to do with how much you send to show your generosity. A player with 50k who sends 25k is just as generous as a player with 1 mil who sends 500k. At least in theory. So just in case anyone has scoffed at other or will about how much they send.... plz do NOT do so. Thank you

Added guidelines:
There will no NO questioning of them. If you don't like them, let us see the problems ourselves and fix if we deem necessary.

Guidelines for now:
below 100k we will give no more then 80%
500k and below no more then 60%
1 million and below no more then 50%
5 mil and below no more then 40%

Now those are very rough guidelines. If I find or MaL finds a problem we will adjust accordingly. Also notice we gave no minimum. We may have very good reasons for giving substantially less and we will not feel compelled to give the maximum amount. Also existing funds will have a role in who gets what as will if that persons has donated (though the difference will be small and the amount donated will matter little so to make sure that people dont feel they have to donate large amounts to be treated fairly).

MaLicious [Ascendancy] January 11 2006 4:51 PM EST

Well i'll start us off.

MaLicious (List af blóðsugutrú) 202.7.176.132 G-Wolf (Public Record Fund) $65000 4:50 PM EST

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] January 11 2006 4:51 PM EST

To help out maybe you should only help people that have had the other person that scammed them reset. So it will help you two out a bit.

This sounds like a good plan by the looks of it.

/me is almost certain someone will complain however

BootyGod January 11 2006 4:53 PM EST

Thank you Leon and yes I am sure they will..... thats why we were born with the ability to laugh at someone call them an idiot and walk away ;)

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] January 11 2006 4:54 PM EST

BootyGod January 11 2006 4:58 PM EST

Thank you TMDoc... by the way I sent 200k to the character. This in no way can be accessed by me for any purpose. Its now the funds. This is just to clarify that all transactions I make with that character are for keeps on a one way street.

MaLicious [Ascendancy] January 11 2006 5:02 PM EST

Thank you for all donations it is much appreciated. :)

AdminShade January 11 2006 5:04 PM EST

Thought to also help with some money, not that anybody would dare to scam me I think, but still.

Donated $25k

good luck with it :)

Thank you Shade

{CB3}-HR22 January 11 2006 5:08 PM EST

Very good fund!
This is similar to Ranger's Monty Fund, which helped me out a ton.

Therefore, i shall doante to this one so i in turn help those who helped me. :)

TheNewKid (HR22) 172.142.201.197 G-Wolf (Public Record Fund) $50000 5:06 PM EST

This will not be th elast of it, i may send more once soemthing actully happens or when i get some spare money.

BootyGod January 11 2006 5:10 PM EST

Thanks alot TheNewKid I appreciate it. I am sure whoever gets scammed will too.

Also as a reminder I wont check this forum constantly so its up to people involved in scam or just nice people to let me know if someone gets scammed. Also scamming is not necessarily the only thing that can go wrong. Anything similiar in PR that makes one person lose something should still be reported.

Phrede January 11 2006 5:30 PM EST

Whats the rate 6:1 or 7 :1 at the moment.

Quark January 12 2006 10:08 AM EST

I suggest we pay back only a % of the losses a person incurred. It keeps the fund around longer, and provides some feedback to the counterparty in that they bear some of the pain.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 12 2006 11:13 AM EST

I will send 10k a day, every day. Not a huge amount but that does make 70k a week regularly :).

bartjan January 12 2006 11:45 AM EST

The idea behind the 'no refund' policy when accounts are reset or banned is to educate people to be more careful with who you do your deals, and what methods you use (auctions!). Where's this educational value if you get your refund anyway?

BootyGod January 12 2006 12:55 PM EST

bartjan whats the point of the lesson if someone loses so much they quit playing? Zog thx alot and Quark that was always the plan and I apologize if that was not clear.

[Nkki]WildEagle [SNB Forging Services] January 12 2006 12:59 PM EST

WildEagle (Forsaken Angels) 84.172.126.125 G-Wolf (Public Record Fund) $50000 -- great idea ;) 12:55 PM EST

Doom Lit Sky January 12 2006 2:20 PM EST

I am helping because it's a good idea imo. Educational value bartjan? I've noticed this is a community heavy game. What you are suggesting is that no-one should trust anyone else.

I'm happy people are trusting. I'm a supporter and got my TSA because Ranger trusted me. ME. A Complete newbie to this game.

Trust is needed to keep a community alive. In the off chance that someone gets burned for TRUSTING someone else. That is a low blow to say they don't deserve a helping hand.

In some cases there are always people that are un-trustworthy. So I think instead of not trusting ANYONE. Players should just call it like they see it, and hope for the best.

Sorry I couldn't send more. I'm paying off my debt to ranger, 25k was all I could spare.

I'll donate more once Ranger's debt is paid.

BootyGod January 12 2006 5:21 PM EST

Thank you Doom for the defense and the money. I do wish to point out though the bartjan has a point but not one I want to agree with. I am sorry if others think this is stupid or soft but im going to do this if I have to fund it myself. Thanks everyone for all the help.

BootyGod January 12 2006 5:32 PM EST

BootyGod January 12 2006 5:51 PM EST

Just sent 72k more myself

Doom Lit Sky January 12 2006 6:00 PM EST

I wasn't trying to argue per say, or say he didn't have a valid point. I was just trying to make a point that there is never anything wrong with helping someone.

BootyGod January 12 2006 6:15 PM EST

Thank you lol. Really I appreciate it.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 13 2006 10:24 AM EST

We should keep it to not much more than 50% of what they lost imho so as there is still a lesson to be learnt of who you do dealings with but at least then they can get some of it back yet not enough to consider being careless again in the future.

BootyGod January 13 2006 12:19 PM EST

Thank you for your opinion but the decision of who gets what rests solely on me and MaL. Sorrry but we wont limit ourselves to a limit because we would like to make it case by case.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 13 2006 1:56 PM EST

Also I want to state that who we help out will be completely up to me and MaL and we will not be swayed by anything other then our personal decision on a case by case basis on to who gets what. This is to make sure we are not accused of bias or any other form of scamming.

I am now thinking of stopping my payments just through the fact that the sole opinion of you two on whether the case is worthy is bias in itself, standards need to be set before you can even make such a statement.
Now that I have thought about it although I don't see you two as bad guys I don't feel I can trust this venture any further than what I have already contributed.

Doom Lit Sky January 13 2006 2:21 PM EST

Just keep an eye on the xfer log, it's not like he would be able to "steal" anything from the fund and not get caught. Now with such watchfull people around.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 13 2006 2:34 PM EST

I'm not saying they will scam the money for their own use, I assume they are smarter than that but I am saying when it comes down to a personal decision on whether or not someone should be reimbursed to whatever level these two people decide there is always bias in the system.
Some kind of standards need to be set to remove the element of bias (whether or not you think you will be bias is irrelevant as it is always there) and the first one being that everyone who has been truly scammed and after a period of time should receive a % of what they lost, a case by case basis will cause more trouble within the community than the good you think you are doing imho.

PirateKing January 13 2006 2:38 PM EST

Zog has a point. Just wait till one person gets a larger reimbursement than someone else; then watch the the charges of favoritism begin to fly.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 13 2006 2:48 PM EST

I don't want to put such a good idea down but there really do need to be strict procedures in place so everyone knows what they are getting into.

Doom Lit Sky January 14 2006 7:03 AM EST

No one said it was fair, it was just a help. Even if it is bias, maybe if someone who donated 50k here and there gets scammed, they will get re-imbursed more then someone who claimed it was a stupid cause.

All I'm saying is that it's their choice what they do with it. As long as it isn't used for personal profit, it's their call.

There doesn't need to be any proceedures, either donate and be positive, or be against it.

This isn't a business after all.

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] January 14 2006 10:30 AM EST

I think it should be a sliding scale of reimbursement based on how much the person was scammed, like someone that was scammed for a large amount of money should get less percentage then someone that was scammed a smaller, easier to pay amount. Just so all the funds don't end up going to one person.

MonkeyMandate [Wasting Time] January 14 2006 10:38 AM EST

it may be beter if this is thought as insurance, i.e. only available to thoose that make a regular, say monthly, contribution to the fund. the amount of remimbursment could then be calculated on the amount that was contributed.

in such a way it will require more work keeping track of everything, but then there could be no claims of favouitism.

AdminShade January 14 2006 10:42 AM EST

Soulless, that is exactly what G-Wolf and MaL don't want.

so if say, i'm not that rich and can't contribute to this, but made a deal to sell something which would make me rich. But then i get scammed and lose everything i had. So now i am scammed, and couldn't contribute and these guys wouldn't give me any because i couldnt contribute...

It goes against everything these people stand for.

BootyGod January 14 2006 10:56 AM EST

Okay guys first I want to say thank you to the people who defended me. Oxetor had the right of it. Its a sliding scale. If someone loses 1 mil we give them a percentage based upon what we feel is right. It would probably be about 350k maybe more depending on other factors. Zoglog I understand what you are saying but If I say everyone get 50% of what they lost then look at this. "Hey yeah i lost like 3 million and you said you could help me out.." so what do we do? cough up 1.5 million on one person? This is supposed to help everyone out. And likewise if someone gets scammed from 10k should I really only give them 5k back? I think at that point might as well give them a full refund because if their dealing in numbers that small they obviously need it. If you have any questions CM or post here but dont stop contributing it fund please. This is a good idea and you know it. But for you to come in and start setting guidelines under the "imho" and then threaten to stop sending funds is stupid. So dont threaten just ask.

BootyGod January 14 2006 10:59 AM EST

Also I want to say that just because the initial fervor of a good deed is gone does not mean people should stop donating... I am kind of disappointed. I was hoping that even though it's been on and people feel they have done their good deed they would still donate a little bit. Just encouragement for all of you to find it in your hearts to donate a little more.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 14 2006 11:50 AM EST

I wasn't say a fixed amount but you should really set the guidelines of your % for certain barriers (for example 10% on anything over 5mill), you can choose them yourselves but at least make the guidelines first and in my opinion no matter how small the amount it should never go above around 50% of the amount so the "lesson" as bartjan has rightly called it is still there.
As I said this is a good thing you are doing but needs you guys to set a few guidelines on what sort of cases will receive what so when it does come to it people cannot blame you for being bias'ed unless you break your own guidelines. If I see some guidelines then I will be willing to donate more around the 25k/day mark giving you guys 185k/week just from myself.

BootyGod January 14 2006 12:27 PM EST

well zog though u generosity is slightly tainted it cant go unignored. I will swallow my pride and start writing up some guidelines with MaL. But I will tell you now. There will no NO questioning of them. If you dont like let us see the problems ourselves and fix if we deem necessary.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 14 2006 12:34 PM EST

I wished it not to seem tainted but rather more as a good investment into a well planned cause, thankyou for at least that rough set of guidelines. I will now be donating.
I will not argue with your figures as you already know my thoughts on the %, I would like to see just a little more once the both of you have talked it through but hey I'm a very picky person and usually not the most charitable either ;P.

BootyGod January 14 2006 12:45 PM EST

Zog I wanted to make sure we had pretty of room to move with this. We dont want to be chained to a set of rules. Its more fair but not want we want for the charity.

BootyGod January 15 2006 1:04 PM EST

thank you for the donation zoglog and carsten
Just wanted to update. I wish for more contributions to the fund but also I am asking for everyone to keep an eye out for scams on the PR forum.

BootyGod January 17 2006 7:47 AM EST

Come on guys more donations. We are so close to 2 million.

BootyGod January 17 2006 5:15 PM EST

Johnnywas got us there with a donation of 300k. Woot we now have 2 million.

YNM January 17 2006 9:46 PM EST

No need to mention me G-wolf...none at all.

BootyGod January 18 2006 2:31 PM EST

get over it man. talk to me when u can be decent. But yeah I do apologize for using it. Let personal feelings get in the way.

BootyGod January 20 2006 4:40 PM EST

Just another post asking everyone for more donations and to keep a look out on PR. So far no one got scammed and that a good thing but I want to make sure no one gets skipped by accident.

BootyGod January 24 2006 4:37 PM EST

okay people we have not had any donations in awhile so just making another request for more donations.

Maelstrom January 24 2006 4:54 PM EST

No one's been ripped off in a while, either.

Never mind Tezmac took care of it =)

Tezmac (Tezmac) 68.35.85.248 trigun (The Shell Bullet) $25000 -- Shade's a jerk 1:36 PM EST

AdminShade January 29 2006 1:52 PM EST

So fines are refundable? so in a matter of fact, trigun possibly got MY money I gave in the fund?

This is outrageous so to say, a person can misbehave to the community and not even get punished for it? Now that makes people misbehave even more in forums...

[Edit: saw what it was about and I appologise for the text which is above. I made a mistake and have corrected it.]

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] January 29 2006 2:16 PM EST

hehe

BootyGod January 29 2006 3:23 PM EST

yes indeed. What I am going to do is personally send Tezmac 25k. After this I will talk with MaL and see if I should be reimbursed by the fund for whatever percentage is appropriate. I would also like to ask you all if you think I should. Either way im still sending money.

BootyGod January 29 2006 3:25 PM EST

WolfCorpse (GW) (Worth the Risk) 168.12.253.67 Tezmac (Tezmac) $25000 -- For fine 3:23 PM EST

Now once I get some responses from MaL he will determine if i should get a percentage of what i paid from the fund.

Note: Fines gotten legitamately (however you spell it) are not payed for by the fund. But if something like this happens against then of course we will cover what we can.

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] January 29 2006 3:34 PM EST

Sorry GW, I appreciate the willingness however Shade took care of the matter as seen in another thread. =P

BootyGod January 29 2006 3:45 PM EST

eh then im out 25k :) lol I dont care but thanks for letting me know hehehehehe.

AdminShade January 29 2006 3:56 PM EST

BootyGod January 29 2006 4:00 PM EST

Tezmac (Tezmac) 68.35.85.248 WolfCorpse (GW) (Worth the Risk) $25000 -- refund 4:26 PM EST

I didn't need this, thanks for the thought though!

BootyGod January 29 2006 4:30 PM EST

ahhh sooo sweet lol. Next time (if it does happen again lol) just keep it. I will just waste it anywayz lol.

BootyGod February 1 2006 5:10 PM EST

Just got a few more donations around 200k worth. Thanks alot guys. To see who donated what check out my biography.
Our current total is Cash: $2,321,529. Congratulations all this restores my faith in the goodness of humanity and all that mushy stuff lol.

Stephen February 1 2006 6:49 PM EST

Psst. Your biography doesn't show for anyone but you...

BootyGod February 2 2006 7:53 AM EST

i have realized the problem and I am trying to figure out why. Thanks for letting me know. Also just wanted for the record I just took 80k of my winning form the lottery and sent it to the fund. As always I cant get this back its the funds and the funds only.

BootyGod February 5 2006 2:27 PM EST

Haven't had any donations in awhile. But thats understandable. What this post is really about is congratulating the community on the fact there have been NO scams since this post started. So WOOT and congrats all.

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] February 5 2006 10:41 PM EST

Has Locke been scammed or was this dealt with? http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=001frq

BootyGod February 6 2006 6:01 PM EST

I talked to MaL... hes trying to clear that up and just logged on today. Though if for any reason this does come out where he scammed someone (though I doubt it will) his affiliation with the fund will end and i will appoint someone else to his position I guess.

BootyGod February 6 2006 6:16 PM EST

okay MaL started to pay him back look at PR if u have any questions.

CmdrHawkeye February 7 2006 8:39 AM EST

Im a little low on funds but I sent 5K just to help out. Anyone who scams someone is dishonorable and should be reset. I hope this helps your cause.

BootyGod February 7 2006 11:57 AM EST

Thank you Cmdr.... the amount makes no difference... its cliched I know but its the thought that counts.
