what does mean Didn't I say it's not polite to fight more (in General)

UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] January 17 2006 3:44 AM EST

the full phrase is:
Didn't I say it's not polite to fight more than one battle at a time? You'll have to wait about 10 minutes now for fight to be reenabled

After 3 months this is the first time i receive such a message. What happened?

I did not change anything to my style of playing, but I have noticed a slowdown in the internet.

QBJohnnywas January 17 2006 4:10 AM EST

You get this message if you try to click/fight too fast. If you're already clicking on the next opponent before your current fight finishes it will do this.

Tyra January 17 2006 4:44 AM EST

I suppose this thing is there to punish the users with slow internet connection till it takes the most time to finish a fight and therefore have the most chance to double attack ....

UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] January 17 2006 4:54 AM EST

What is the difference between this message and the one I am receiving from time to time (to be fair only one fight...blabla i do not remember)

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] January 17 2006 4:56 AM EST

You get the "please be fair" message first. If you continue to submit multiple fights then you get the 10-minute "Didn't I tell you" to behave yourself fight suspension. The one after that is an hour, I believe.

Xiaz on Hiatus January 17 2006 5:13 AM EST

20 minutes actually, IIRC, then 30 minutes, then 40 minutes and so forth, but I could be totally wrong :)

Anubis January 17 2006 5:25 AM EST

sometimes fighting runs really slow here even though I'm on Broadband.
Whats strange is that I am always fighting before the last fight has finished, occasionally 20 seconds before the fight result comes back.

I've never had the message in a year of playing like this.
I tried to do as many fights as possible before a fight finished and I never got the message.
This makes me wonder how the system is judging who is trying to fight 'too fast'.

ps I've probably shot myself in the foot if what happens to me gets 'fixed' :)

AdminShade January 17 2006 5:30 AM EST

Just stop fighting for 15 minutes when you get the "10 minutes waiting" and stop fighting for a minute when you get the polite notice

training often helps when getting that notice though.

Special J January 17 2006 5:43 AM EST

Stop fighting until the fight results load, problem solved.

It is not out to punish anyone except those tossing requests faster than they should be.

Tyra January 17 2006 6:49 AM EST

But it actually punishes the slow connections, because it only happens with slow ones....
The fast ones are fast enough that they wont start before they end...

So in my opinion this thing is totally unnecessary!

Peter at home January 17 2006 6:57 AM EST

Also get a supporter status, it might help.

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] January 17 2006 7:46 AM EST

Nope supporter status has nothing to do with it. I have got that suspension once or twice when my connection slows down for varied reasons. Even with me being a supporter I can still get it if my connection slows down to the point that I'm trying to fight my next battle before the last one registers.

QBRanger January 17 2006 7:48 AM EST

I have a cable modem and I get the 10 min suspension sometimes. Mostly when my internet connection lags a bit and I hit C enter too fast.

bartjan January 17 2006 8:00 AM EST

CB has to wait for your old fight to finish before you can start a new fight. There may be multiple reasons for that, but at least one of them is pretty simple: in order to know how high your healing costs are, CB first needs to know how dead you are.

Speed is relative. By saying you are fighting too fast we don't mean your absolute speed, but your speed relative to the Internet connection you have. Slow connections means slow fighting. Disabling character images may help, but besides that it's something between you and your ISP.

AdminJonathan January 17 2006 8:15 AM EST

To be pedantic, CB is happy to start a fight before the results of your last fight are sent to your browser. Just not before the calculations for the last one are done. (Which is usually pretty quickly, but every 50 fights or so it records your progress in the DB in case of badness or me deciding to turn on a new feature without flushing things first.)

That's why _most_ of the time people on slow connections can get away with fighting again before the last one loads. But if you're not waiting for the page to load, you won't see the warning Bast mentioned and next thing you know it you're suspended for 10 minutes. :)

Bootsanator January 17 2006 10:13 AM EST

i've never had a problem when i was fighting in Firefox, but I got that message when using IE on another computer...could that make a difference?

Anubis January 17 2006 5:15 PM EST

I wondered that too as I use Firefox

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] January 17 2006 5:28 PM EST

I will squash that rumor as well. I have gotten the suspension on firefox so it has nothing to do with what browser you use. It might change load times for the pictures which in turn might slow down your connection but that would be about it. It still has more to do with your internet connection than anything else.

Stephen January 17 2006 7:27 PM EST

I'll squash your squash! IE allows multiple form submissions allowing you to press enter and fight again before the page refreshes. This is an IE bug. Firefox does not. Therefore it is much easier to get the above error in IE.

UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] January 18 2006 2:08 AM EST

I am using netscape 7.2. the same bugs as with IE?

Special J January 18 2006 3:41 AM EST

Firefox allows the EXACT same thing to happen, using IE/NS/FF has nothing to do with the message, it all comes down to you not waiting long enough.

Don't most people read fight results? I know I read mine.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] January 18 2006 3:57 AM EST

I don't read anything unless I'm looking for something specific, I'm just kind of aware of the colors that show up to keep me informed of win, lose or draw. Sometimes (usually when I've been awake too long) I find my fingers will let me down and not release the return key.

PirateKing January 18 2006 5:42 AM EST

"Don't most people read fight results?"

I know that there are more than a few who regard reading their fight results as a hinderance to their progress up the score ladder. Seriously. If it does not directly relate to increased score, it's a waste of time to them.

Special J January 18 2006 5:59 AM EST

And that is why you can turn off results ;)

Someone needs to remind those, that your score doesn't matter in the least.

PirateKing January 18 2006 9:10 AM EST

Wasn't referring to myself. I take the time to read every result. I meant those who cannot be bothered with such. You know the type... If they cannot get a higher score(or increase in level or whatever) NOW, then they feel they are wasting time. They inhabit every online game. CB is no exception.
