Wiki promoted to Help (in Changelog)

AdminJonathan March 2 2006 4:04 PM EST

It took a while, but Help is dead. Long live Help!

I've done a bunch of wiki editing to improve things (some links that were on the main page are now under Getting Started, btw) but some areas could still use improvement.

The FAQ under Basics seems out of place to me. Out of place and suckier in editing quality than the official FAQs. I'm not sure what should be done with this. If these are really FA, we can add them to the official one.

Controls under Advanced seems like a really strange aggregation of stuff that doesn't belong together. Grant seems to be the main author here so maybe he can explain what he was trying to accomplish, because I for one don't get it. :)

Feel free to weigh in on these issues, or other (wiki-related) ones if you feel discussion is necessary. (But as usual, if you see an obvious improvement that could be made, go ahead and do it instead of telling us about it!)

can we get to the good stuff now?

Help was born a poor blank HTML page with a small header and no body. But he grew up big and strong. Soon he had a proud header and a full body. Help was always there when you needed Help. Help knew how to Help you. Help we will miss you, sniff sniff, you will always be in our thoughts and our prayers, sniff sniff. So help as you ascend to that great big web page in the sky, know we all appreciated your Help.

Yay :)

should be looking at some editing coming weekend, if i have time.

Grant March 2 2006 5:55 PM EST

It started as "Things people mention about controls that nobody ever puts in the Wiki because its organization stinks so they don't fit anywhere."

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] March 3 2006 12:02 AM EST

Okay, so should that be "Help Home" now? It's still Wiki Home.

And if it is changed to "Help Home" instead of "Wiki Home", will all the pages that link to it change their own link names or would they all have to be changed manually, as well?

i look at the weapons and armor page quite often, does it have to be under gameplay basics, then into, armor, weapons?

it would be great for it to come back to the main page, under Basics.

Thanks

is this the only change this month?

AdminJonathan March 3 2006 9:14 AM EST

flamey: then make a browser bookmark. (right click, This Frame, Bookmark...) duh?

bast: it's help, and it's a wiki. I see no problem here.

How about 'Helpful Wiki' or 'Wiki of Help' or maybe 'The All Mighty Wiki, which is also Help because it has been so helpful as a Wiki.'

Maelstrom March 6 2006 2:49 PM EST

I just noticed that when you view a user's page, below the purchases & transfers, there is a link to all Wiki pages edited by that user.

Only 4 contributions Meal. so sad.

Where in the Wiki Help can I find the AC formula?

QBRanger March 12 2006 6:33 AM EST

Help---Armor, then under Overview:Armor

bartjan March 12 2006 6:37 AM EST

That's not the full version as was under the old Help->Armor.

SNK3R March 12 2006 1:22 PM EST

Armor is displayed like this: An Iron Helm [D] (+E)
The armor damage reduction formula is one of the few that is made public:
First, it takes off [1..2]*AC damage. Call this number N. Thus if you have an AC of 10, N will be from 10 to 20. The total amount of damage reduced from a blow DMG to ac AC is
N + (DMG - N) * AC * (0.0021 +/- randomness)
In other words, each point of AC blocks roughly 0.21% of the damage, so an AC of 100 will block 21%.
For magical damage, only the enchantment on the armor is counted towards effective AC.
Remember that heavier armor is not always better; it can reduce your Minion's effective dexterity as well as his spell success rate if he is a spellcaster.
Armor does not reduce the Minion's chances of being hit.
