I think perhaps tattoo naming is messed up (in General)

QBRanger October 10 2006 10:12 PM EDT

I noticed a lot of people having problems with TOA giving adequate str and dex so I tried my ROS.

Ablative Shield: 3,054,481/1,656,245 (1,527,250) is my AS on my ROS minion WITHOUT using my corn.

My ROS is named at Urza's Rage lvl 2,778,000 so with the 4% naming it should be 2889120 which is well below my max tattoo level.

1/2 of 2889120 is 1444560 which if added to my base AS should be 3100805 which does not correlate with my current AS.

I noticed before yesterdays problem I was getting about 1.25 million hp from my AS vs little or no DM, now I am getting 1.24. Not much difference but still the numbers are a bit fuzzy.

Anyone else see this with all tattoo or just named ones?

If my tattoo was not named my AS would be about 3045000 so the naming is doing something, what I don't know.

I'm having the same problem (named TOA). Haven't taken the time to determine exactly how much my str/dex have dropped, but it appears upwards of a couple 100K (e.g., Dex was >2.1M and is now <2M).

/me points to my 13 or 14 posts in the max tattoo forum showing the same discrepencies

perhaps the bonus is to effect instead of level now?

I don't think naming is messed up. Doing some calculations it seems that perhaps tattoo's have taken a 10% cut in their effect. Using my ToA for example which is supposed to give 50% it's level for ST and roughly 33% for DX I'm seeing a 5% decrease in my ST compared to what I should be getting and a 3.5% one for my DX. These were "quick and dirty" calculations so it's not going to be exact but it seems for your example Ranger that the RoS also has taken a 10% cut to it's effect.

AdminShade October 11 2006 12:56 AM EDT

no time for me to calculate but:

ST: 605,791/20 DX: 1,099,808/700,000

named ToA: level 1,262,000

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2006 3:19 AM EDT

Shade is that without any stat boosting armour? If so, you tattoo isn't giving as much as we would expect it to.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2006 3:25 AM EDT

It's not naming.

I have a un-named ToJ that is just under my Max tattoo (ToJ level: 238,820)

That should give my familiar STR: 47,764 and DEX: 79,606.66

But from the play by play it actually has STR: 43,154 and DEX: 71,924

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2006 3:31 AM EDT

Those figures make my ToJ 90% of what it should be, confirming Logans 10% reduction.

So did the tattoo levels rise before the foul up on Monday and following the rollback stayed the same in terms of number but rolled back in actual effect?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2006 3:34 AM EDT

That would make sense if tattoo's differed by different amounts, but I'd hazard a guess every tattoo is working 10% lower than it's level would suggest. ;)

QBJohnnywas October 11 2006 3:38 AM EDT

oh well, if it's ten percent down, I'm just glad I'm on a low level char where I don't notice!

AdminNightStrike October 11 2006 4:03 AM EDT

I posted my findings of my research in another thread (and updated the wiki) that explained how naming tattoos works. I even quoted Jon. To paraphrase:

Naming a tattoo gives a 4% increase to the tattoo's "experience". This equates fairly well to a 4% increase in level, but it is not exact.

I then went on to demonstrate several calculations based on a SF, as the HP is very easy to find and calculate as 25% of level, thus proving my statements.

With the changes of max tattoo, it's obvious that something has changed with tattoo experience and level.

QBJohnnywas October 11 2006 4:43 AM EDT

My ToA is giving me the correct levels of ST/Dex.....

Maelstrom October 11 2006 8:11 AM EDT

My tattoo seems to be adding about 10-20% less to my stats than it should, based on it's level. Considering that it's named, the benefits are way off.

This must be the reason why I thought I had lost a lot of XP after the rollback...

AdminShade October 11 2006 8:40 AM EDT

That was without any other armor of course:

ST: 605,791/20 = addition of 605,771
DX: 1,099,808/700,000 = addition of 399,808

named ToA: level 1,262,000

ST addition = 48.00% of level
DX addition = 31,68% of level

Both are too low for the 50% and 33%...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2006 8:50 AM EDT

You tattoo should be effectively level 1,312,480 and add 656,240 to STR and 437,493.33 to DEX. You're currently getting 92% STR and 91% DEX.

So it's not just a straight 10% reduction to all tattoos.

AdminNightStrike October 11 2006 9:36 AM EDT

Maybe the ToA was just reduced in performance. I'm telling you, use a familiar -- they're much easier to calculate exactly. With a SF above your Max Tattoo, you will find that its HP is exactly (like, VERY exactly) 25% of the listed Max.

Flamey October 11 2006 9:55 AM EDT

im getting 47% of my RoS level on my AS, without the Corn. it says in the wiki *about* half, so is 47% enough? my naming bonus doesn't get in the way of this, though. seeing as MTL got lower, my tat naturally is higher than it, just a bit.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2006 10:29 AM EDT

I used my familiar to test. ;) My Jig is 10% lower than it should be.

velvetpickle October 11 2006 11:48 AM EDT

I know my Str/dex were both displaying above 1mil over the weekend, b/c I bumped my EB's to get Dex equal to Str., last night was the first I noticed it was reduced.

Would Jon make a change to Tat's during a non changemonth AND not make any mention of it, I am doubting it.

Guessing/hoping it is a glitch and that Jon will pay some attention and give us an answer soon :)
