Fight higher score characters and your challenge bonus goes up.

Fight against characters with a score of around your PR, and you will only get a few % bonus, if any at all.
Fight people with 50% higher score than your PR and you should be getting some 30 - 40% bonus.
Fight people with double (100% higher) your PR as score and you will receive the full 100% bonus.
