Halidon Familiar (in Changelog)

krasko January 10 2007 3:52 AM EST

Its here!Trains HP/ST/DX/Archer and have own bow.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 3:57 AM EST

Nice catch! ;)

I'd been scanning the items lists! ;)

AdminLamuness January 10 2007 3:58 AM EST

yay.. an archer familiar. Just what us mages need. ;P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 3:58 AM EST

Quick question jon. Does the familiar bring it's own Melee weapon as well, or will it try to use it's bow in Melee? :/

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 4:01 AM EST

Does it use the teams ammo, or does it have IA built in as well?

TheHatchetman January 10 2007 4:05 AM EST

And does this have something to do with why i can't access one of my chars with a lesser SF?

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 4:05 AM EST

Of course this is the real reason Junction exists.

TheHatchetman January 10 2007 4:08 AM EST

What? Junctioning BG, EB, and HoE would actually be a good idea on a minion with a gimongous SoD? Never! :-P

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 4:10 AM EST

Now we just need to know what sort of bow it's using as well!

Maybe something to do with this:

The Battle of Halidon Hill, where 22,000 Scottish cavalry were thwarted by 2000 archers and 500 English knights. This gave an example of the power of the yew longbow.

An anti Scottish familiar??!??! G Beee will be pleased.

AdminG Beee January 10 2007 4:43 AM EST

!!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 4:52 AM EST

One concern.

Junctioning STR items with this familiar might be detrimental.

If it is coded to train Archery as 1/4 of its STR (for Max effect), then Junction with STR items (and using GS in your team) will lower it's Archery skill. :(

Kong Ming January 10 2007 4:54 AM EST

I just fought Jonathan's character and the familiar seems to have it own ammo.
Btw, its called Hal ;)

Kong Ming January 10 2007 4:57 AM EST

I unequipped my weapons and saw that Hal used its bow all the way since it only attacked in alternative rounds during melee.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 4:58 AM EST

Yup. ;) Just tried that as well!

With the Ranged penalty, it will never hit in Melee. You can not increase its STR (well, you could possibly use a AoF with Junction to increase it's Archery Skill) to increase its damage output.

I don't think the Scotts have anything to fear from this Tattoo! :P

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 5:19 AM EST

It's available in the Tattoo artist as an option, should anyone have a spare 400k to spend.....

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 5:22 AM EST

Forgot about the lesser tattoos. If you've a spare 80k lying around chuck a lesser at the artist and see what that Halidon can do!

lol

TheHatchetman January 10 2007 5:24 AM EST

That was my plan, tho i can't access my char with my lesser. No big rush tho, I'm not wasting BA unless its on a Sunday, and even then, I'm stingy with it :-P

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 5:27 AM EST

lol, Hatch, but it's for the good of the game!!

TheHatchetman January 10 2007 5:29 AM EST

Matter of fact, I'm not wasting any BA until I am solid wins against you again All these draws, and a few losses are getting on my nerves :-P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 5:59 AM EST

Johnny, Tried the inking, got a server Error. :'(

No sneaky early Familiars for us! :P

Flamey January 10 2007 6:07 AM EST

Unless the percentages are different.

SF > HF.

SF isn't a word, but HF is, WTH?!

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 6:24 AM EST

Oh well GL. We shall just have to wait. This is the first tattoo I've been interested in trying out since... I can't remember when....

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 6:30 AM EST

Flamey is correct though. SF trumps HF. Unless something major gets added.

SF can be boosted by AG, and attacks every Melee round.

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 6:35 AM EST

Yes, but if you want to stick to one type of damage - in my case physical, to avoid being vulnerable to everything, then it's not a bad tattoo to have. Saves money on a ranged weapon if nothing else.

It would make setting up a non toa tank team quite interesting anyway...

TBH never enough gabber January 10 2007 6:57 AM EST

i just changed my Toa 110k into a Hal 110k (even though my max tat is like 20k)

and it works sweet as

specially since I'm going single minion

Wasp January 10 2007 6:57 AM EST

Seems like a better version of a SF. Damage in ranged, probably dead by melee, not affected by AMF. Will be interesting to see how this new tattoo works in conjunction with my SFBM. Not the change I was hoping to see. With a bit of luck, this isn't a supporter item.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 7:15 AM EST

TBH, how did you do that? I'm still getting a server error when trying to ink to a HF.

AdminShade January 10 2007 7:20 AM EST

Flamey, HF = Have Fun :p

TBH never enough gabber January 10 2007 7:21 AM EST

just went and did it,

I LOVE YOU JOHNATHON

the black heart runs off hugging his Halidon Familliar and a picture of john

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 7:45 AM EST

Heh. ;) Lucky! :P

And Harlequin? Glad I nabbed Thomas of Hookton! Maybe I should have called him Thomas Vexille! :P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 8:37 AM EST

I think i know the problem. I'm using a lesser Tat. Maybe, just like Jigs, you can't have lesser Hals. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 8:55 AM EST

Looks like HF have 100 arrows, that refresh each fight. :)

miteke [Superheros] January 10 2007 9:04 AM EST

What's with the PR weight that shows up in the item overview? I didn't think familiars had a pr weight.

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 9:07 AM EST

That'll be for the growth of the bow I would suspect. I can't imagine the familiar is going to have a bow that remains at base.

miteke [Superheros] January 10 2007 9:13 AM EST

Weapons do not have PR weight, only armors. Right?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 9:15 AM EST

0.2 PR weight means it only adds one fifth of what another tattoo of the same size would to your PR doesn't it?

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 9:18 AM EST

Weapons don't have the weighting as such, but it makes sense in some twisted way to liken the growth of the familiar's bow to the bonus effects of items.

Besides which, it makes more sense to do it that way. The alternatives are to add weapon PR to your char on top of tattoo PR. Which could take you way way above where you should be. Or increase weapon allowance to take the familiar bow into account.

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 9:19 AM EST

That post was a bit garbled sorry. But you know what I meant right?

QBOddBird January 10 2007 9:35 AM EST

Dude. This sounds cool. xD

QBJohnnywas January 10 2007 9:39 AM EST

Who let Beavis in the room?

PoisoN January 10 2007 10:01 AM EST

For me it trains about 22% HP and 52% DX/STR. Can anyone confirm that?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 10:02 AM EST

50% STR and 20% DEX. :)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 10:03 AM EST

Didn't bother checking HP, but I'd gues it's 20% like DEX. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 10:10 AM EST

Scratch that! My Hal has 138,026 HP which works out to be 33.33~%

:)

HP: 33.3~%
STR: 50%
DEX: 20%

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 10:12 AM EST

Hmmm.... Maybe the Dex get's the Melee Penalty, and it train higher than the 20% I see... :/

PoisoN January 10 2007 10:42 AM EST

I checked it again, it's probably:

~25% HP as usual, ~50% DX, ~50% STR and ~25% Archery(to reach 1.0).

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 10 2007 10:48 AM EST

surely if Archery needs to be at 1/4 then it only needs 12.5%.

deifeln January 10 2007 11:31 AM EST

Is there any chance it is going to get a melee weapon?

QBBarzooMonkey January 10 2007 11:56 AM EST

Woohoo! I'm more anxious to try Hal out than anything we've ever gotten before!!! I just know I'm gonna give in and waste my 5% XP before the free retrain, I just know it!

:P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 11:59 AM EST

:P I know the feeling! 've untrained some small stuff, resisting changing the big things until the free retrain though! ;)

PoisoN January 10 2007 12:09 PM EST

Not a good familiar for my current setup.

In ranged combat the arrows miss vs. evasion minions. The bow is too weak, and gets even weaker in melee. It is at least almost as good as a SF in only 10% of my opponents, and I lost another.

Could be a nice thing if your whole strategy is designed to support it. So it's a not very cheap (EG+EB+HoE+Amulet+Junction+Haste) physical damage dealer and finally a reason for Haste/GS. Hmm. A ToE/ToA does the same, cheaper.

AdminJonathan January 10 2007 12:26 PM EST

"Is there any chance it is going to get a melee weapon?"

no

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 10 2007 12:47 PM EST

:P How about Invis working on Familiars? ;)

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] January 10 2007 1:02 PM EST

Halidon take me away.Isn't that an old timey fire extinguisher ? Those are bad puns hopefully I'm first to the well.

Gallatin [Thanoscopter And You] January 10 2007 7:28 PM EST

Is the HF a supporter item?

Shooto January 10 2007 8:10 PM EST

No, you can reink any tattoo to an HF.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 10 2007 10:26 PM EST

Jon gave us back IAs...it just costs a tattoo slot...

Miandrital January 10 2007 10:28 PM EST

Novice's idea isn't half bad. Just as long as the IA's aren't +50 or something ridiculous like that.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 10 2007 10:32 PM EST

I said Gave Mian...not give...he essentially already did it...although in a round about way...

TheHatchetman January 12 2007 3:03 AM EST

I just realised this, but its also a JKF buff... Teams that rely on HF will get slaughtered by those utilizing the JKF.
