Going from single to 2 minions: what to do? (in General)

AdminShade January 12 2007 2:22 PM EST

Enlist for $8,255,767
Enlist for $3,302,306

Top option will give me 2751922 free experience on the minion
Bottom option will give me 660461 free experience on the minion

What should I do? Pay exorbitant amounts of money to get that 2.75 mil experience or won't I even notice the real difference?

Like I was saying in chat....

If you plan on using an RoE on the new minion then go cheap. Because you'll start with less xp and will be putting less xp into the skills they'll inevitably be cheaper to boost, and with the extra xp from the RoE you'll catch up to what-would-have-been-an-expensive-minion in no time. I found out with my last char I could take the cheaper minion and put the same amount of xp into it as my main DD if I used the RoE.

If not I'd personally go with the more expensive minion.

I have never personally choosen the smaller option when buying a minion, so I cannot speak to that effect. I also have never paid more than 1 mil for a new minion. I am very much in the get them ASAP camp, vs. wait until it cost SOOO much and I get SOOO little back in comparision to the other minions. All of that said you only get one chance to actually buy MPR and thats by adding minions. Why would you not want to add the MAX MPR you possible can is beyond me.

With or without the RoE, I would pay the money for the extra XP. Like you said, it's the only way to buy XP, so take advantage of the opportunity.

For the top minion, if you put all the xp in 1 skill/spell it is about 230k

For the bottom one it is about 66k or so.

So for 170k more in 1 skill/spell, I would say----Save your money and go for the cheap one.

5 million to your weapon would do you better than 170k more in a spell.

but seriously Ranger (sorry wont be able to get onboard with popsicle) why get the minion at all if if you go for the cheap option. The end result exp given is 1/9 the xp of the most xp minion on the big option. If you take the lower option, gosh, lets see looks like about, what, roughly 1/16th, 1/14th of the top xp minion. So in other words, you want to spend 3.3mil dollars to add a minion who will be less than tenth of your best minion. What do you do with that guy other than slap it all into HP and drop a bunch of high AC armor on him and call him a mini wall. I would hope at Shades level the injection of a minor 660K MPR will be akin to spitting into an ocean and calling it more full. I would BET that at his level the injection of 2.75 mil will be pretty close to that as it is. So I guess if you are saying I have to have another kill slot, and that is ALL the new minion is to do, take up another kill slot, then perhaps the lower option is better, but I cannot think of another instance in which I would recommend it.

And I will THEN go on to say to all watching, IF you are going to get multiple minions, get it sooner than later and you can avoid wasting your money like Shade (and Sut, poor guy there) will regardless of which option he chooses. (other than not get the minion)

The reasons to hire another:

1) A 2nd kill slot
2) The ability to use a tattoo on the enchanter as well as all the tank armor you want.
3) The fact he has the NCB makes it able to grow, especially if he uses a ROE.

idk, i say just pump the 1 minion you got like ranger said... IMO you dont need help from other minions Ever :D

The prices are ridiculously overpriced anyway... i say wait and pray that jon drops the prices a wee bit :D??

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] January 12 2007 5:11 PM EST

All good points there Ranger, in addition to the kill slots, the tat wearing was something I did not consider. I am using an RoE on the tank of my 3 minion team, and yes with the NCB and the named RoE, that tank gets a lot more exp than the other minions, BUT the other minions train two slots, one slot 3/4 one slot 1/4. The tank has to train 3 slots equal and then add exp to a fourth spot periodically to keep archery up and inline. All that said, I feel the RoE simply allows the tank's power to grow equally to the power of the other two minions, because of their slot training. I do not think he truly "gains" any actualy power over the other minions, but does keep pace much better with it.

So if you drop the RoE on a minion who has less or equal train slots to your other minions, then he should actually gain more power than the other minions, and essentially catch up. You drop the RoE on someone with more train slots and you might never "catch up". At least that is how it appears to me.

It's a while since I bought a minion (and I am considering it at the moment).

At the level we are at, those extra kill slots make a big difference. Regardless of the amount of xp, minions soaking up damage in ranged means your damage dealer gets to live longer. It doesn't matter if they have 20 HP or 20 million, if they are taking damage that your tank normally takes it's good.

I would go for the cheaper option. I know how patient you can be building a team - your last team was proof of that - and while the XP may be low now, it won't be later on down the line. The difference of 5 mill can be diverted into weapon upgrades then...;)

AdminShade January 13 2007 7:03 AM EST

Indeed, I now myself tend to go with the people who say buy the cheaper version.

Even though this means only getting 24% of the other's experience, this doesn't matter at all.
