Hard BA cap of 1600 (in Changelog)

AdminJonathan January 15 2007 5:02 PM EST

As announced over in the Congrats NS thread, "BA will have a hard cap at 1600 now. This is effective immediately on new purchases, and effective at cache flush for piles of BA already over that amount."

Relic January 15 2007 5:06 PM EST

Wow, so someone who wants to store up their daily BA for a while and burn it weekly or bi-weekly during crazy time will no longer be able to do so? Maybe I am not understanding the entire situation, but that seems like a drastic change to eliminate a very easy to see exploit.

AdminG Beee January 15 2007 5:10 PM EST

Are users allowed to have an NCB transferred to them whilst having a hoard of 1600 BA in place?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] January 15 2007 5:11 PM EST

Glory, I read it the wrong way at first myself, he is saying 1600 (ten times the 160 accumulation), which should easily allow for those weekly fighters, if I understand everything correctly.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] January 15 2007 5:14 PM EST

Which is only three days.

AdminJonathan January 15 2007 5:14 PM EST

"Are users allowed to have an NCB transferred to them whilst having a hoard of 1600 BA in place?"

Yes.

AdminShade January 15 2007 5:41 PM EST

Nice to see other things fixed than bugs :)

Though I feel a bit sorry for those who want to buy all their BA and fight it all in one go.

Relic January 15 2007 5:57 PM EST

If I decided to go on a month hiatus and buy my BA whilst I am gone, I should be able to hoard it as long as I like, I paid for it for heavens sake. This is a knee jerk reaction, there are better ways of dealing with this problem imo.

How about keeping a BA purchase log of how many BA were purchased, by what character, and whether they were purchased with a normal, NUB or NCB account status? Then they could only be used on that character. For most players this is not even an issue, because they only fight with one character and sometimes only a few fights with other chars.

The table this would create would only be as large as maybe 4 to 5 times the number of active players per day on a day where all players bought full BA at 150 increments. That is only 2k rows per day which is a very high estimate, so over 6 months that is only 360K rows which is nothing in DB land. Then at cache flush if a person had BA purchased for characters that either had been transferred, or retired then in that case, that BA would disappear.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] January 15 2007 6:04 PM EST

Wait, wait, uh, is the cap for free BA too? Like instead of 160 it's now 1600? Or is it just for the BA you buy?

QBsutekh137 January 15 2007 6:06 PM EST

Bast, it's only a bit more than 2 days for 10/10 folks... *smile*

GO PATS January 15 2007 6:09 PM EST

I think we should have a second tier of supportership, or "uber-supportership" as I like to call it, which costs another $10 USD to Jon, and raises the free BA cap up to 200 or so... I'd pay it. I'd pay $10 just to be called an "Uber-Supporter" actually. :)

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] January 15 2007 6:10 PM EST

Jon, then i think you should rid of the warning before creating an NCB saying "any BA exceeding 160 will be eliminated." Because why should xfered NCBs get 1600 max (at the start) but not the ones that are created?

AdminJonathan January 15 2007 6:12 PM EST

"If I decided to go on a month hiatus and buy my BA whilst I am gone, I should be able to hoard it as long as I like, I paid for it for heavens sake."

You won't be paying for more than 1600 now. :)

As pointed out in the other thread, NCB transfer isn't the only exploit to worry about. Simplest to just limit all such chicanery.

AdminJonathan January 15 2007 6:15 PM EST

"i think you should rid of the warning before creating an NCB"

done

Tezmac January 15 2007 6:21 PM EST

"chicanery"

I thought I was the only one who used this word, nice choice. :O)

Grimmjow January 15 2007 6:48 PM EST

i still have 160and its not going up

Brakke Bres [Ow man] January 15 2007 6:57 PM EST

I do believe that is the maximum limit of BA stored that you bought.
If so could you make it a 2 days worth of BA buying so allowing for 800 BA to be bought in one day? Or lowering the limit even more to 1440, currently we can't buy over 720 BA a day.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] January 15 2007 6:58 PM EST

...you cannot buy day after day without using it to keep buying and go past 1600

the normal refreshing BA cap is still 160

TheHatchetman January 15 2007 6:58 PM EST

your BA will stop at 160. Jonathan has announced a 'hard cap' of 1600, applying only to those who buy BA over the normal max of 160.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] January 15 2007 6:59 PM EST

i can only buy 576 BA a day

Relic January 15 2007 7:15 PM EST

I forgot for a moment that the Jonacracy is still in full force. You disregarded my idea entirely, usually you will point out what you do or do not like. That was a bit of a change...

AdminJonathan January 15 2007 8:35 PM EST

simple is better than complex

TheHatchetman January 15 2007 8:43 PM EST

"How about keeping a BA purchase log of how many BA were purchased, by what character, and whether they were purchased with a normal, NUB or NCB account status? New coding... too much work for a simple exploit...

"The table this would create would only be as large as maybe 4 to 5 times the number of active players per day on a day where all players bought full BA at 150 increments. That is only 2k rows per day which is a very high estimate, so over 6 months that is only 360K rows which is nothing in DB land. Then at cache flush if a person had BA purchased for characters that either had been transferred, or retired then in that case, that BA would disappear. "

So... keep track of all BA bought? Lets give each CB dollar a serial number too... I am not good at coding as i've not much knowledge of the subject, but this seems like a LOT of work for such a minor thing, no?

QBRanger January 15 2007 8:43 PM EST

On another subject:

Now that the BA cap is in place, should Nightstrike get 1600 BA to compensate for all the lost BA he experienced?

Just a thought.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 15 2007 9:47 PM EST

Would be nice compensation. :)

"If I decided to go on a month hiatus and buy my BA whilst I am gone, I should be able to hoard it as long as I like, I paid for it for heavens sake." - Glory

To fix this maybe a vacation mode could be instuted, again, piles of code to make it work(ick).

vacation mode would allow you to log in buy BA AND THAT IS ALL...minimum time in vacation mode 3 weeks. Just another good/bad suggestion. Someone somewhere obviously will not like this...

Relic January 16 2007 12:58 AM EST

I find it interesting and even amusing when people that do not know how to code have to give their 2 cents on requested game changes and the required code and time for said changes.

AdminJonathan January 16 2007 1:50 AM EST

"vacation mode" solves nothing

sent NS $200k for his remaining 12k BA (the price he would have paid before his NCB transfer with a 10/10 char)

Josh [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 16 2007 5:04 AM EST

Yeah, vacation mode would only make it a requirement to go into the mode to do whatever was going to be done when there was no cap. This might make it easier to monitor but it doesn't stop anyone from exploiting.

AdminNightStrike January 16 2007 6:52 PM EST

For some reason, I can only purchase 172 BA, even though I didn't purchase any. I fought my 1600 down to 760 or so already.

AdminNightStrike January 16 2007 8:42 PM EST

I have 80 some BA left, and can still only purchase 172. The cost is 406 per if it matters.

AdminNightStrike January 16 2007 11:38 PM EST

I bought 20, and it jumped up to 700, which would be the amount remaining if it correctly displayed 720 remaining. So, whatever.
