I found this out today while trying to combat some EC. Others may want to know this information, as it's not often talked about (or ever).

-1m DX is no worse than -1 DX...
When your ST is reduced to negative numbers, you do very little damage per hit. In order to get positive again, you have to train a giant amount, and cannot rely on your networth to boost it. Further, your networth actually hurts you at this point.

"Ethereal Chains will subtract its effect from the opponent's trained attributes"
Slightly misleading as EC will cut down the stats provided by a ToA. (Although I don't consider the ToA to be a bonus to ST/Dex.)
Good point though; it's always worth investing in your real stats as much as you can. Reliance on bonuses is never a good idea. ;)

Wow.. Although I'd change the Wiki Entry slightly ;) Double the list effect in the example, as only 1/2 of that is removed from a single stat.
I really think EC should be changed to work off total stat (from trained stat + item modifiers).
No, the listed effect in battle is removed from both stats at 100%. I took the example from my actual fight against Bloo. His EC casting for an effect of 145,157 brought my 20 ST enchanter down to -145,137.

His wiki addition is correct- he states "effect" rather than "level".

Makes me think this prolly isn't actually meant to work that way...

I don't think EC should be changed it's barely useful as it is.
Doh! ;) Ignore my level-effect comment.

This is the same with clan score...
When you have -20 points and 10% bonus due to your clan's pr being lower than the max allowed, then you get a 10% penalty instead.

So everyone should start training EC and fight those characters with STR and DEX enhancing gears and no ToA ;)
It doesn't work that way for me -
my DX: 9,356/7,669
George Duke cast Ethereal Chains on all enemy Minions (6862)
post battle stats DX: 2,494
Btw the game treats negative DX/ST as 1 or maybe 0 so it is not true that upping your gears actually makes you worse (if they do multiply after EC)

Maybe I'm misinterpreting Rubberducks response, but if not:
9356 - 6862 = 2494
ie exactly what you would expect from Nightstrike's comments.
I think my example shows that the EC is being applied after item bonuses. Anyway another example then:
DX: 9,356/7,669
Binding Chain cast Ethereal Chains on all enemy Minions (101816)
post battle DX: -92,460

Ah OK sorry understand now. I'll take a look and see if any of my targets use EC to see what the effect is.

OK
Prebattle stats:
ST: 461,208/280,249
DX: 480,115/294,460
This is with:
A Tattoo of Augmentation lvl 361,919
A Pair of Elven Boots [10] (+16)
Battle with Oblivion:
Void cast Ethereal Chains on all enemy Minions (102246)
Post Battle Stats:
ST: 358,962
DX: 377,869
Analysis:
ST: 461,208 - 102,246 = 358,962
DX: 480,115 - 102,246 = 377,869
Both of which are the same as the post battle stats. With Dex enhanced by the elven cloak it therefore appears EC comes into effect after the item bonuses.
Note to self... take of AoF before testing this stuff.
....reverting the wiki change now...
