I must say I saw this coming a year ago and wondered if they actually would make any progress into the new 3d gameplay.

I must say I'm a bit impressed at what they did... still watching the gameplay video now...

[SIBT]Gardiner Amarth June 28 2008 8:27 AM EDT

That's kind of impressive :)

Tchoob June 28 2008 8:29 AM EDT

Oh my. Really impressed with the gameplay, especially environment interaction. Those blood balls seem a bit silly, but I can get used to that.

I thought Blizzard was announcing it this weekend at their get-together? Which I'm sure hasnt happened just yet. But yes, i read up on 1up.com reasonings to believe Blizzard was announcing DIII's release, mainly from runes seen in the constantly updated splash image.

New class, Witchdoctor.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] June 28 2008 3:51 PM EDT

Witchdoctor who can summon a wall of zombies!! wow.

I actually found out about Blizzard unveiling it (this weekend) at their own E3 type dealy a couple days ago. We had to find a news article in gaming news, and this was my article, =P That's why i was kinda confused as to why we have trailers already if they havent unveiled it at their convention, unless it was last night?

Starcraft II, Diablo III...

I can't wait. Blizzard needs to hire more employees, so I can play SC2 a and D3 soon!

VivaPinata June 28 2008 4:52 PM EDT

I think D3 was only announced earlier this morning.

Its gonna be a while for those wondering, because blizzard is kind of a perfectionist company. If a game is not up to quality they'll straight up trash it; so expect diablo 3 to be pretty damn good when i comes out (if it comes out)

Meh... kinda yes and no. On one hand, they spend extra time on their products to get it "just right" before release (this includes expansions and patches as well). However, they have this "we did it once, we're not going back to fix it" thing going on, when something doesn't turn out right.

THere's a ton of class related bugs from WoW beta that are well-documented, but have yet to get touched. Not to mention Blizzard's tendency to bandaid things.

The game looks like it's going to be awesome, and I'm going to try it out for sure, but my experience with WoW has soured me toward Blizzard's MMO market.

Flamey June 29 2008 8:24 AM EDT

WoW sucks. It's taking too much of Blizzard's effort when we could get D3 and SC2. They could've done a WC4, but no, have to make WoW.

VivaPinata June 29 2008 9:08 AM EDT

"The game looks like it's going to be awesome, and I'm going to try it out for sure, but my experience with WoW has soured me toward Blizzard's MMO market."

That is hardly justified. No MMO is without their share of bugs. As IGN writer Tom McNamara puts it: "I've been following and playing MMO games for years now, and for the most part, they've essentially been the same type of game. Take a long time grinding, doing "FedEx quests," and traveling; and dealing with server downtime and bugs."

"WoW sucks. It's taking too much of Blizzard's effort when we could get D3 and SC2. They could've done a WC4, but no, have to make WoW."
Blizzard North are the developers behind the Diablo series. They are also the same company that, June 30th, 2003, ran into some problems. A conflict with Blizzard's owner ultimately sent 30 employees packing their bags. Some of which joined Flagship (remember a game called Hellgate London?) and others joined a recently bankrupted company named Castaway. Due to this, Blizzard North had to cancel one of two games that was, at the time, under development.

However, WoW sucks. Agreed. Waste of Blizzard's effort? Perhaps not. If nothing else, WoW is a benchmark of MMO history. This game alone has multiplied the Battle.net fanbase to astronomical numbers. Think about that the next time you meet a really awesome dude while running through Diablo 3. If WoW never was, you might have never met him. And with the millions of dollars of funding from subscriptions, Blizzard can start taking on bigger and risker projects. That fact also has probably attracted some major talent in the game developing world. Nothing adored by 11 million fans willing to shelve out 15 USD a month can be considered a failure. ;)

Tell that to the millions of subscribers. ;)

The witch doctor looks to be a replacement of the necromancer. I personally hated using necros, so I can care less, but I might take an interest in the witch doctor just to use that skeletal wall.

The animations for all the attacks that I saw were pretty sweet. Much better than a little white swirl over your barb's head when he uses berserk. Also, the status effect appearance on weapons is an infinite improvement over the old tint your weapon a different shade.

I was just thinking a few days ago that I miss playing D2. Can't wait for D3. They should put everything else on hold and focus every employee that Blizzard has onto D3. Maybe if Vivendi helped, we'd be playing by next month.
