Does the MgS help vs SG? (in General)

QBRanger July 7 2008 11:19 AM EDT

I have tried using one +40 and see no real change in damage taken using or not using it.

IE vs Freed using one or not I take about 990k damage a hit. On average.

Anyone else see this and is this normal if so?

AdminShade July 7 2008 11:27 AM EDT

Isn't it the same as with Decay?

QBsutekh137 July 7 2008 11:28 AM EDT

Shouldn't be, MgS is pure +AC. MgS should not increase the SG effect, and it should reduce the damage like any other DD, in my reading of the spell description...

AdminNightStrike July 7 2008 11:34 AM EDT

I, too, see little reduction with my +48 MgS.

And FTR, a MgS is not +AC.

AdminShade July 7 2008 11:36 AM EDT

MgS doesn't increase the SG effect, though it isn't decreasing it either.

MgS also is not pure +AC. it even has no AC at all.

QBsutekh137 July 7 2008 11:50 AM EDT

Ah, sorry. In any case, I meant that it certainly isn't base AC... Thanks for the clarification!

Hmm, something must be broken. The magic reduction part should definitely work.

QBRanger July 7 2008 12:42 PM EDT

this is just from my limited experience. but thanks for checking.

Frost July 7 2008 12:45 PM EDT

i knew it was broken

MgS appears to be working correctly vs SG.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw July 7 2008 4:03 PM EDT

So if it's working correctly and people are still questioning whether or not it is working, I'm going to assume that there is no effective defense vs SG other than not equipping much armor.
Great....

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 7 2008 4:07 PM EDT

an effective defense is made up of HP and AMF... the MgS effect is likely just hard to see due to the random nature of magical damage...

PearsonTritonRaveshaw July 7 2008 4:12 PM EDT

If it's still a single hit kill spell, then like ranger said in another post, HP and AMF only prolongs the agony one round. I still have no doubt there is no effective defense vs SG other than very little armor.

Lord Bob July 7 2008 11:47 PM EDT

"an effective defense is made up of HP and AMF..."

..but not really. All it does is let you not get killed too badly in a single round. You still get killed.

Wizard'sFirstRule July 8 2008 12:29 AM EDT

I think the correct counter is kill in range(r) :P. Have a big tank with massive ELB and start shooting? or a big MM/FB and go to town? You have 5 rounds to kill the SG minion before it gets you, shouldn't be that hard.

QBRanger July 8 2008 12:31 AM EDT

PK,

For those of us stuck with our melee weapon, getting a nice ELB is much easier typed then done.

And with the possibility of a TSA/PL/HP wall, killing it is easier typed then done.
