Characters sales rendered pointless ? (in General)

Sickone July 29 2008 8:00 AM EDT

With both the #1 and #2 MPR characters up for sale and nobody actually bothering to make an even remotely reasonable bid, does anybody else think we might actually have a problem ?

Gandalf July 29 2008 8:11 AM EDT

Yes.

Koshka July 29 2008 8:15 AM EDT

Maybe people just don't have that sort of money to spend on a game? What do you see as being the problem?

VivaPinata July 29 2008 8:16 AM EDT

People are willing to spend $2000 USD for items...

So yes. MPR < Massive tattoo.

QBJohnnywas July 29 2008 8:27 AM EDT

Why is it a problem? The only people it's a problem for are the people wanting to sell.

The majority of the people who would have bought these chars have their own rather large chars already.

And if the number 1 and 2 MPRs don't sell and get retired, those people rise up in the rankings by default, without having to spend lots of money.

Usul [CHOAM] July 29 2008 8:39 AM EDT

asking for 350 usd min bid won't help the sales

QBJohnnywas July 29 2008 8:47 AM EDT

Especially as the highest bid for LA's char was $60...

Gandalf July 29 2008 8:52 AM EDT

Well few months back people had huge bidding wars for good chars like Conundrum.

Now that the top 2 are up nobodys bidding....

Its not a huge problem, but those chars especially Rangers have took time to grow that high and should sell for a reasonable amount, IMO.

QBJohnnywas July 29 2008 9:00 AM EDT

But if they don't sell it doesn't affect the game, doesn't affect any other players. In fact the only thing that happens if they don't sell is that they don't sell.

Anybody who thinks they SHOULD sell - did you put in a bid? If not, why not?

Cube July 29 2008 9:03 AM EDT

I think a lot of people want to see where they can get with their NCB with the new score system, thats the only reason I wasn't interested, that and my lack of a large tattoo. Otherwise I'd have gone for a loan etc.

Xiaz on Hiatus July 29 2008 9:05 AM EDT

Think about it this way - Ranger basically said he's had enough and moving on with one of the top characters. I don't think anyone in CB is willing to spend the cash for a character that they know one of the top strategist in CB has given up on.

Track record shows top characters that get sold usually end up no better than how they were pre-purchase.

That, and the climb to the top is actually quite enjoyable.

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] July 29 2008 9:22 AM EDT

I will refute that finding Experience... Both Conundrum and Oxcha have ended up better than they were pre-purchase... and both went to master strategists imho

QBJohnnywas July 29 2008 9:24 AM EDT

Definitely masters of strategy!

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] July 29 2008 9:27 AM EDT

Thanks for the backing Master Strategist of Black Sophist ^_~

TheHatchetman July 29 2008 9:28 AM EDT

The issue isn't with becoming "as good"... it's that you'll never go any higher in the ranks than they currently are unless you were to buy the char and try to support them with low net worth, and then you suddenly threw another 200m or so nw into the mix.

Aside from that, the only way to go is down... And we've all seen the CB stress that causes... =/

Kong Ming July 29 2008 9:31 AM EDT

Maybe buying a top character makes playing a little less fun? I would rather build up my own character, more satisfaction that way. Its a game afterall so the process should matter more...

TheHatchetman July 29 2008 9:34 AM EDT

Exactly KM. Might just be me, but the Koy or FTW sale seems comparable to spending hundreds of dollars on an amazingly indepth platform RPG, but then when you turn the game on, it doesn't even ask if you'd like to begin a new game or load an old one... Just skips right to the cutscene after the final boss fight...

Sickone July 29 2008 9:48 AM EDT

Or, in other words, top MPR is meaningless ?

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] July 29 2008 9:49 AM EDT

No, top MPRs means a lot. It's just that people want to grow their own characters instead of buying their way to the top.

QBRanger July 29 2008 9:50 AM EDT

I guess.

But I do understand the reasoning reasoning about it.

If Koy does not sell, thats ok. He will stay retired for eternity.

Mikel [Bring it] July 29 2008 9:54 AM EDT

Well I would buy one, but why? I'm close enough to them already. And I'd have to re-train them to suit my needs. So that would knock them back down some in MPR and probably put them below me, so I see no point.

TrueDevil [AAA] July 29 2008 11:17 AM EDT

Not sure about you guys, but..... playing at lower MPR is actually MUCH MUCH Challenging and Fun (many targets and people using various strat), that's why I keep restarting new characters, I think I've made like 6-8 characters that passed 1 mil MPR and then sell it, start a new one. It's not really fun to only attack few people or keep winning.

There's almost no goal/fun at the top MPRs, just doing the usual routine, and try to keep up with others. Maybe this is why people are discouraged to spend lots of money for the top 1-2 MPR... ?

I refute it as well. I've always known Johnny would be a master of BS. ;)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 29 2008 11:47 AM EDT

Problems:

#1) People still think the sky is falling. It isn't.

#2) LA pulled one of the lamest moves ever by not waiting for Koy to sell before posting for his char.

#3) No one wants Ranger to leave when it comes down to it, and bidding on Koy is perceived as having helped him leave.

Not buying Koy is the hardest thing I've had to do here on CB. I made a commitment when I bought Conundrum, and I think I should stick with it.

Koy could easily be fought with almost no NW. I tried baiting Avoid into buying it, since I know he'd be able to create a setup that relied on MPR alone if he had to...

Someone needs to step up and pay what Koy is worth and use it to kick butt, preferably Little Anthony's.

Usul [CHOAM] July 29 2008 12:31 PM EDT

It's just simple. "what Koy is worth" might not be the requested min $350.

So really, the sky is not falling.

nooooooo please don't farm me >.<

three4thsforsaken July 29 2008 7:43 PM EDT

From expirence, growing a large character is much more fun than owning one. Plus the sheer numbers of buying one of the larger characters if horrible, especially if one is halfway though an NCB, which many of the top USD spenders are.

[LittleRed]Calynne July 31 2008 2:25 AM EDT

I like how everyone whines about USD spenders ruining the CB community by buying their way to the top... then this whining about NOT spending USD and essentially buying your way to the top...

My opinion: Buying a high MPR character is counterproducive to the person buying it, mostly because of the reasoning of several people who've already responded to this thread... you may have to retrain, you may lose interest in it, etc etc...

There really is no upside to buying a high MPR character besides being able to say you're number one... for a little bit.

And IMHO... there is no way in heaven or on earth that I'd pay $350 dollars for a character. No matter how good it is.

If you're gonna leave CB, just go and let your characters stay in retirement. That way if you come back they'll be there for you to return to.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 31 2008 2:34 AM EDT

building a char gets to be a grind after you've done it enough...

It's at the top where a special strat can really be fun. Ordinary need not apply.

Flamey July 31 2008 3:16 AM EDT

Selling characters was always crap, it's just now become pointless. Even at it's peak, the best offer would be nothing compared to the time put into the character.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] July 31 2008 6:14 AM EDT

"#2) LA pulled one of the lamest moves ever by not waiting for Koy to sell before posting for his char." 100% agreed.

I'm curious as to what happens if FTW and Koy become retired. Does the N*B drop by 20%? Does Flamey get thrown into 6/20? Or are these things still based off of the top MPR, whether or not it is retired?

Mostly, if they're based off of the highest active character, then people who started N*Bs the day before Koy and FTW were retired would have a higher N*B percentage than those who did before or do after, so they would have a shot at the top, because they can hit 95% of the former top MPR, leaving them at the actual top MPR. If that makes sense.

QBJohnnywas July 31 2008 6:16 AM EDT

Now that is a really interesting enquiry.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] July 31 2008 7:05 AM EDT

Characters sales rendered pointless ?

Let us hope.

Flamey July 31 2008 7:44 AM EDT

I saw my name, so I thought I'd add something :) I'll be in 6/20 regardless. The slow growth (if any at all) means I'll be there in a week or two. I'm 11k off last time I checked.

PeterGriffin July 31 2008 9:11 AM EDT

Its time for CB3

Usul [CHOAM] July 31 2008 12:46 PM EDT

wow CB3 :D

QBRanger July 31 2008 12:47 PM EDT

Unless the problems of CB2 are addressed, cb3 will accomplish nothing.

Little Anthony July 31 2008 2:56 PM EDT

Colonel has an interesting point. However, i am excited bout the new score system where i was allowed to see challenge bonus again. Bout 2% on 2 characters. Adding to RoE, i am quite happy right now.

Bushy July 31 2008 4:01 PM EDT

cb2 is getting bad enough, why bring in cb3

Shapoopie July 31 2008 4:41 PM EDT

Just wanted to say that I am enjoying CB very much. If people buy chars they buy, they don't they don't. Market is out there if the right person is playing.
