Why is AC AC? (in General)

Just wondering... is there a reason why we call it "Armor Class?" It's not a terribly big deal, but calling it "Armor Class" is less newb friendly than just "Armor." It may make them wonder if there are different classes, or "types" of armor out there.
it's a class of damage reduction... Endurance is another, AMF reduction is another, MgS/EH is another, and Protection was another :P
besides, if it was just armor, the AC would not be king of AC anymore... it would just be the king of A... and I'm not so sure the AC is willing to lose that status ^_^

But it's not like we call these things Endurance Class, or AMF Class, or Enchantment Class, etc.
if i recall correctly, the original dungeons & dragons was where i first saw it referred to as armor class.

Many things in CB are named after existing RPG-style names: cloak of Istari, Helm of Durin, Noldorin Spellcasters... all refer to older names spawning from the same genre. Armor class has long been the label used by D$D, which is likely why it's used here, too.

D&D is the first place I ever saw Armor Class as well, so I'm fine with it ^_^ It brings back nostalgic memories for me.

Armor Class or Armor Rating works dandily for me :D
Besides, it was probably from Lord of the Rings before it was in D&D.
Turning back to the overseer, the orc worried about the upcoming battle at Helm's Deep, "Look, I only have like a total of 20 Armor Class from this Jaggy Spikey Suit + 3. I'm going to need an upgrade to +15 at least, if I don't want to be another one of those throwaway orc extras in the movies. Forge it for me at 78% sound fair?"

Dude is right.
In the original paperback D&D set, it was called Armor Class.
I guess Jon is nostalgic.

Actually, 'Armor Class' has been done away with on the new character and equip pages, so should the wiki start referring to just Armor too? Personally, I like the word Class there though.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I noticed that some places it just says "Armor." But on the battle pages, it still says "Armor Class."

Argh, now you've gone and made me nostalgic for D&D style games again...
Time to pop open NWN and remake my old monk, Karma Sultra...
