AoF: Conundrum (or tell novice what to do) (in Contests)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 25 2009 7:59 PM EST

I'm vulnerable to displacement boots, how would you fix this?

Prize: +10 Amulet of Focus to my favorite suggestion

Ends in 24 hours

DoS February 25 2009 8:00 PM EST

Add more dexterity to your vulnerable minion.

Xiaz on Hiatus February 25 2009 8:03 PM EST

Boost your EC, and ^.

TheHatchetman February 25 2009 8:06 PM EST

I would recommend a small EC to put low-DX targets into the negative and training a token-lvl of DX on your tank, just to ensure the maximum possible base CTH, but you've already done that...

I would advise huge PTH on your weaponry, but you've already done that...

I would point out that as a tank, you practically *need* an alternate non-tank damage source to be successful in the top ranks, but you already know and have applied that...

I would say that outside of just pumping plus into oblivion, or attempting to compete with tanks getting bonuses to their DX while you fight through penalties you're doing everything possible to combat DBs... ^_^

Job well done, novice wins! Send prize to C. Montgomery Burns :P

QBOddBird February 25 2009 8:10 PM EST

Grab a MenC to replace your SC defensively. You can change it up between the two to keep attackers on their toes.

DoS February 25 2009 8:11 PM EST

Hint: His problem is Vectoidz.

TheHatchetman February 25 2009 8:17 PM EST

if his problem is vectoidz, the issue is his Exbow... Only way to fix that is to try to match DX (HAH! no seriously... LOL!), or pump up the pth

DoS February 25 2009 8:21 PM EST

Poof [0] (+175) worth $61,895,982 owned by SHD (Vectoidz)

And you have low dex and +132 on your exbow... so yeah, you need to pump up your dex so that the dex ratio is less than it is now. + to hit will be expensive to upgrade.. as you know ;)

QBOddBird February 25 2009 8:21 PM EST

When I had issue with exbows on BS, I used a combination of PL and rented DBs to delay it hitting long enough to kill the Exbow user first.

QBRanger February 25 2009 8:28 PM EST

Define "vulnerable".

What are you trying to accomplish?

Do you want to hit in melee? or in missile? With a 1H or 2H weapon?

Which of your minions vs which of their minions? I would need to know to check on the dexterity side of things.

If it is your 2nd minion, perhaps unlearning some strength and boosting dexterity to a decent level for your MPR may help hit. Then use EB and an EC of course. But of course, as I found out with Koy, if you lower your strength, your ENC is lower making it hard to add NW to add PTH. A vicious cycle of sorts.

If it is your last minion, it would seem only more PTH on the exbow for missile and using the new cape/gloves for melee to get a bit more PTH.

Haste will not work vs those pesky DM users so I would not recommend it.

You can also try to use EC, however it would need to be prohibitively high to nuke some of the 3+M dexterity given by high level TOAs.

And one can always use magic, which makes DBs moot.

AdminTal Destra February 25 2009 8:31 PM EST

or start a new character!

TheHatchetman February 25 2009 8:31 PM EST

ooh! Put a ToA on your Exbow minion!!! :o

While i realize this isn't even a remote possibility, figured I'd add it to disprove "<deifeln3> there is no more strat advice to be given, it's all covered in the first 9 posts"

QBRanger February 25 2009 8:33 PM EST

A TOA as Hatch stated or a Hal.

idiotz February 25 2009 8:37 PM EST

Get yourself some huge DB's? :) Or, Boost DX and get a ToA and EB's? :o

DoS February 25 2009 8:44 PM EST

Good idea, ToA and you lose a few people off your fight list. Same with Hal, really.

DoS February 25 2009 8:45 PM EST

But you might also gain a few onto your list as well.. forgot to mention that. Hehe, sorry.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] February 25 2009 8:46 PM EST

If by few you mean one, you might want to check his battle logs. Only one person can beat him, SHD.

DoS February 25 2009 8:49 PM EST

Yes.

Tyriel [123456789] February 25 2009 8:53 PM EST

You can't invest in HP enough to make a difference.
AS won't work, either.

There's no (reasonable) way to increase your longevity that way.

You're left with either 1) not being hit or 2) neutralizing the enemy first.

That's not too many options. :(

You could try using MM with a small fireball infront of it to take out meat shields, but I doubt that would give enough damage to overcome 8m+ HP.

Another option would be to counter an archer with a better archer. Given your team's set-up, and that he has DBs, that probably won't work, either.

Exbow and Axbow are good options, if you can manage to hit with them. Have you considered investing some in an Axbow? If you can hit with that, it would make hitting with an Exbow easier and make him hit less. I know it's not exactly cost-efficient, but if you can hit with it, it might be worth it.

Other than those few options, you really can't do anything except accept the fact that you can't beat everybody without even more money than you have, or a larger MPR boost. He exploits the weaknesses in your strategy (reliance on AS, Exbow to neutralize tanks) and does it well. Perhaps, instead of trying to beat him, you should congratulate him? :)

[P]Mitt February 25 2009 9:03 PM EST

What is the main weakness to displacement boots?

Magic. Magic always hits! put some DD on your team and shazaam! You're no longer vulnerable to displacement boots!

(are you serious?)

Okay okay, I know you won't take this seriously, but still... it's a fix, isn't it?

(no it's not)

All right, all right, I've got another idea!
Go to the person using the displacement boots and bribe them to use a smaller pair!

(that's an even worse suggestion)

Fine! Here's two suggestions: Sit in a corner and cry! Or complain to Jon until he nerfs the displacement boots!

(.............)

:)

Fatil1ty February 25 2009 9:19 PM EST

Well if you want to beat SHD train 2 decays on enchanters and shazaaam

QBsutekh137 February 25 2009 10:20 PM EST

Let me get something straight, first...

You've got an 8-figure tat strapped on, giving you magic and another kill slot, and massive hit points. And you think DBs are you're real problem? What are you trying to do?

KoP wins because of PL. It's that simple, and that broken. I was on that bandwagon a long time ago -- zero support. You can't kill off any of his minions, even though they only have 20 HP, because the PL acts as a force-shield instead of a post-damage (er, post-death) absorber.

The real question is: How does he beat you? Do you really need to kill him more quickly, or is there something you can do to stop him? Either his defense is broken or his offense is -- there's not a lot you can do about that.

And yeah, I want that AoF.

Mikel [Bring it] February 25 2009 10:38 PM EST

That's nice Sut, but he doesn't have any problems beating me :)

QBsutekh137 February 25 2009 10:46 PM EST

So, pardon my ignorance, but who's DBs does he have a problem with?

AdminTal Destra February 25 2009 10:48 PM EST

SHDs

QBsutekh137 February 25 2009 10:54 PM EST

Question still stands -- how does Vectoidz beat you (barely, not often)?

I can tell you one thing off the bat -- he's an archer -- you wait till melee to lay down you biggest payload (the tat, an IF). So, change your strategy to be more ranged of you want to beat those DBs.

Will you lose other targets? Sure, I suppose. Some questions don't have solid answers.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] February 26 2009 1:13 AM EST

Vectoidz has no AMF to protect him from decay.

But the big question is, does he kill you in ranged or in melee?

In ranged, get big DB's and pump your own PTH/
In melee, add decay.

Rawr February 26 2009 1:29 AM EST

High AC wall to last to melee so IF can rip him apart?

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] February 26 2009 1:35 AM EST

You said favorite response. Not most helpful.

So, I think you should go out and get a delicious ice cream and forget about DBs for a day. ;p

DoS February 26 2009 1:39 AM EST

It should be that Vectoidz beats him in range. Decay will not help and even if he put up two decays then it will make those two minions easy bait for other characters to beat. You could always try using big DBs to deter his + to hit but it would be a rather large cash sink.

QBJohnnywas February 26 2009 1:40 AM EST

Pay Jon to delete DBs. Permanently.

Take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

QBOddBird February 26 2009 1:42 AM EST

My suggestion:

Bribe Jon into changing back to a */10, or even a */5 regen rate.

Then bribe him into allowing the combined accounts thing again.

So, to recap:

Step 1: Bribe Jon
Step 2: Bribe Jon
Step 3: Find Partner
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit!

Rawr February 26 2009 2:45 AM EST

"Decay will not help"

I'm seeing this a lot. From what I gathered the average rounds is 8-9. thats a good 3 to 4 decays, assuming his 3rd minion is the last to die.

{WW]Nayab [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 26 2009 4:02 AM EST

i find that decay would only help should the minion with the decay lasts till the melee rounds, which if you put your other minions ahead of your main tank will happen, so i suggest pumping dex, getting an awesome set of DBs that match Vectoids, or just try and beat him in MPR by playing more often.

sorry if that is no help xD.

Varcas February 26 2009 4:19 AM EST

If the displacement boots are on a mage, then they won't have any dex of their own and you'll hit more by focusing on a melee weapon over ranged? If its enemy tanks (that do have high dex) with displacement boots, then I think you're just out of luck and you'd do better versus them playing a pure mage strategy otherwise you waste exp on strength.

Ancient Anubis February 26 2009 4:33 AM EST

Here's a suggestion. The Dbs that he is using are mine either rent them before he does when his current rental expires, and then bribe me not to put them back in rentals when they finally come out problem solved :)

SuperHD February 26 2009 4:45 AM EST

I have the 2 solutions fou you Nov.

1: Go in the rental and select only the box 'show rented items' after cliclk on filter, then go in the footwear section and find the displacement boots named 'Poof' look at how many hours i still got this rented items, then figure at what time it will be back in rentals and be sure to be there when it happen so you can rent them yourself. Also, you will be able to know to who they belong for real and try to give the guy some cbd so he wont put them in rental anymore. Do this with every single DB available in rentals. This will force me to build my own Displacement Boots which i obviously aint got the money for....

2:Wait until i go back to work in 2 months, at this time i will play way, way less so i wont bother you winning streak....

And dont unlearn !!! you got an incredibly strong strategy.

lostling February 26 2009 5:33 AM EST

lets see... continue to add to your X and ignore your already overly inflated +

or you can be more interesting and use those things like Menelvegorian Cape, Gloves of Mercy and SOC on your tank to directly compete with DBs...

or if you are REALLY desperate use a TOA?

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 26 2009 7:27 AM EST

Finally; a strat discussion. (Sorry I don't have anything helpful to say, it seems it's already been said.)

;)

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 26 2009 7:34 AM EST

Oh, and by-the-way, I think he is trying to tell you something with his minion names.

Dark Dreky February 26 2009 9:39 AM EST

Untrain all exp and pump up Dex... kind of like a KoP style character, but Dex instead of HP...

would that even work?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 26 2009 1:37 PM EST

a little more than six hours left

Fatil1ty February 26 2009 1:47 PM EST

perhaps use an ROE to train evasion on your first minion. The AP isn't doing that much considering it is really only reducing. the BoF penalties. Perhaps putting a solid 800k lvls or 100,000 effect will be of great use. Additionally equipping a pair of EG's will increase the evasion with an EC with no penalties to your trained enchantments.

An ROE isn't really necessary but could help you get it done quicker.

Fatil1ty February 26 2009 1:48 PM EST

oops rather a 100 effect

Neo Japan February 26 2009 2:32 PM EST

the only thing i can think of without knowing anything is putting your ice familiar in the rear, since all his attacks come from the front. can you battle him once or twice and post the play by play?

lostling February 26 2009 5:08 PM EST

let me eleborate :)

MC
+12= $6,565,417
GOM
+15 $8,003,130

that's a total of 42 PTH just there with minimal investment...

using the SOC would also allow you survive longer :) not to mention flashing the hell out of him

said DB are A Pair of Displacement Boots [0] (+195) worth $81,064,480

with 14mill you have countered 42/195 = 21% of his DB

i would also like to suggest using a BOE which frees up your slot to train BL to synergies with the SOC which of course will be immensely useful... not to mention i would suggest switching to a leeching weapon as BL + SOC + leech = godly

lostling February 26 2009 5:11 PM EST

concerning vectoidz i would also suggest using a small elb or FB of some sort to kill off his AOL bearing minion asap

lostling February 26 2009 5:28 PM EST

sorry for triple posting but look at it this way
A Set of Tulkas' Gauntlets [6] (+20)
and
no idea how big is your cloak but rough guess would put it around 11+23
and
A Buckler of Mandos [10] (+28)
and
sedrellium hull [22] (+51)

you lose 6+20+11+23+10+28+22+51=171 AC = 28.557% armor reduction
and
51+28+20=98% str increase

but you get... bah sorry dont have the time to caculate it for you... PM me or something if you want... gtg to army now -.- brb in around 12 hrs

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 26 2009 6:46 PM EST

just over an hour left

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] February 26 2009 6:53 PM EST

Put a pair of huge DBs on your junction minion. Really simple I know. But, if you do this you will last easy to melee with your IF, and both your IF and junction minion will be hit less, 2x for your money.

Thraklight Resonance February 26 2009 7:43 PM EST

Your process to destroy your displacement boot vulnerability is simple.

First, you must sponsor the first Miss CB Universe contest to be judged by admins and Mushu. During the contest, it is important to monitor Nightstrike's life signs while the contestants perform in each of the contest segments (talent, swim suit, tulwar toss while in a swim suit). At some point, Nightstrike will have the proper reaction that enables you to move to the second step.

Second, blackmail the contestant indicated by Nightstrike's reaction into doing your bidding (if Nightstrike's reaction is prompted by Mushu, you will have to resort to bribes since it is currently impossible to blackmail Mushu for anything).

Third, offer Nightstrike exclusive dating privileges with the contestant (or Mushu) on the condition that he sabotage displacement boots with a "failure to displace" feature that kicks in when someone fights you.

This can work!

Rawr February 26 2009 7:52 PM EST

If high AC wall (make tank more AC based and less damage based) won't stop the huge ranged damage, then make an evasion enchanter!

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 26 2009 11:30 PM EST

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 27 2009 12:51 AM EST

Right now in the running are;

Tyriel - for having a realistic perspective

idiotz - big dbs are certainly an option

DoS - playing regulator

SHD - cheapest and most effective solution

lostling - best wrong answer [and showing his work] (upping my melee PTh would be awesome, but in effective in this specific case)

thrak - for seeing the big picture
