What happens when... ? (in General)

AdminShade March 12 2009 1:24 PM EDT

What happens when you name a Pair of Spellboosters?

unnamed it basically does this:

Gives a flat
3% bonus to Direct Damage Spells
2.0% bonus to Enchant Defense Spells and
2.2% bonus to Enchant Offense Spells.

But what would ones with a name do and is this worth it?

From naming page:

Naming armor increases its stats by 4% -- also rounding up -- whether this is AC (for most armor) or something else such as for tattoos or Displacement Boots.

So would it make it get:
4% bonus to DD
3% bonus to ED and
3.25% bonus to EO spells?

Or would it be utterly useless? Anyone have any idea? NS perhaps?

As these people all have named SB's. My guess is that it simply affects the AC; however, if it buffs the small bonuses it gives, then that's way better. :)

AdminShade March 12 2009 1:31 PM EDT

If it just boosts the AC then it's hardly worth it, unless you have highly upgraded ones.

kevlar March 12 2009 1:46 PM EDT

hmmm, someone told me naming effects any armor bonus, but maybe that is wrong. I never checked to see if it actually changes and actually am not good at doing that, I'll loan you a set of mine to find out >:)

AdminNightStrike March 12 2009 1:51 PM EDT

Equip it and observe how much your stats are boosted.

QBRanger March 12 2009 1:58 PM EDT

Like the regeneration ability of the TSA, there is no change to the inate ability of the item.

AdminShade March 12 2009 1:59 PM EDT

before:
Dispel Magic 2,068,762 1,665,000
Ablative Shield 6,192,801 4,995,000

after:
Dispel Magic 2,068,762 1,665,000
Ablative Shield 6,192,801 4,995,000

So no difference.

Quod erat demonstrandum?

kevlar March 12 2009 2:03 PM EDT

OUCH! I wouldn't have named them if I heard differently >:)

QBRanger March 12 2009 2:05 PM EDT

Definition: Quod erat demonstrandum (Q.E.D.) is the Latin for that which was to be demonstrated. Q.E.D. is used in mathematical proofs to show that what was to be proven has been proven. The Greek for Q.E.D. was used by the ancient Greek mathematicians Euclid and Archimedes.

AdminShade March 12 2009 2:06 PM EDT

Ranger: I wondered if he meant that with it.

Anyway, can we have this be changed as this would induce more item namings perhaps ;)

QBRanger March 12 2009 2:11 PM EDT

Like if we named a TSA, the regeneration goes from 3% to 4%.

Naming the SB increases its bonus to DD as you suggests in your first post?

But what would happend if you name a HoC? a 1% chance for an extra hit in the first missile round?

Any items I am forgetting about?

But I do sort of like where your going with this Shade.

QBOddBird March 12 2009 2:12 PM EDT

Good call, I'd like to see this change, would make the item that much more valuable and could cause more namings (this change could directly affect your wallet, Jon!)

:D

QBOddBird March 12 2009 2:12 PM EDT

Maybe if you name the HoC, the negative base AC is nullified. :O

AdminShade March 12 2009 2:37 PM EDT

Yeah, exactly.

The SB's bonuses should get an extra point, or perhaps go from 3/2/2.25 to 4/3/3 or so to round things.

And the TSA should also get such a boost and the HoC, well a 1% doesn't make a cookie crumble so perhaps the negative AC then could be removed or something else beneficial.

Wizard'sFirstRule March 12 2009 2:48 PM EDT

so HoC get the short end of the stick? You get 5 AC for naming a HoC? as well as that much worse against a SG?

AdminShade March 12 2009 2:51 PM EDT

so 5 AC less is much better vs SG then?

SG only has 2.2% of experience trained when looking at all spells.
SG only is being trained by 1.2% of the characters.

This in contrast to 10.3% and 16.2% of Fireball.
Touche?

Anyway as I was saying, or something other for the HoC so you are welcome to suggestions instead of just grabbing the stick which hits you.

QBOddBird March 12 2009 2:51 PM EDT

um...0 AC is not worse against ANYTHING than -5 AC, painkiller.

AdminShade March 12 2009 2:56 PM EDT

well basically -5 AC on your total will make SG do less damage wouldn't it?
