Understanding AoI (in General)

I thought that the AoI made you invisible, but then read the wiki and it makes you invis. for physical attacks but NOT magicaL? I don't get why it ignores the AoI. Why is it like that?

Before SG was introduced this made alot more sense.

In the past, MM/decay were the spells that weren't spread damage. MM hit from the back, so as far as we were concerned a minion in the front with an AoI was safe from non spread damage (decay can't kill it).
