Tutorial discussion wiki page (in General)

http://www.carnageblender.com/wiki/Tutorial+discussion

Keeps all discussion in one place. Once we develop more concrete ideas we can make another page and have headings by pages and have a walkthrough essentially. Jon/NS could review this and probably add it in if we work together. They're all for a new tutorial, they KNOW it's outdated and doesn't work well enough, it's just an effort for them to do. So if we pretty much create one then it'd be much easier for them to say "yes".

Just start posting on the page if you feel like adding. I think if anyone flames this they're just being cynical towards CB.

how does the wiki editor handle locking/merging?

AdminShade March 31 2009 10:37 AM EDT

locking can be done by Jonathan and NightStrike (not sure about admins)

i mean edit locking, to avoid race conditions and overwriting. it doesn't seem likely that it would lock, seeing as how it's browser-based and that would cause frequent breakdowns, so i suppose my question is primarily about merging.

I'm posting this idea here purely as a bump. But how does everyone feel about adding "bosses." I'm referring to static characters at 100k, 200k, etc. These characters would have no growth, but would act as benchmarks for new players. It might focus new players on coming back to hit the next achievement, gaining a $10k/$20k/etc bonus for the first time they defeat a "boss."

The coding shouldn't be too difficult, either.

i had brought up npc teams once before, but i think it was in relation to item drops to replace camping and users having to use ba with no xp gains for a chance to win rares.

i know that didn't go over too well but it was likely because of the inherent gambling aspect.

i think it would be a good addition to have some benchmark teams and thus some definitive goals for new players to attain.

it's premature to say it would be simple to implement without having any knowledge of the design.

Well I think suggestions about gameplay changes should be a little separate. Our main goal here is to get the RIGHT info out to the new players, in a tiny amount of time and still get them to understand it. As we probably know, the tutorial is failing at least comparatively with when it started (I'm sure it was more dated/relevant then).
