Consumerism is the equation of personal happiness with consumption and the purchase of material possessions.

AdminQBVerifex April 14 2009 2:08 PM EDT

I love technology, I love learning about new technology and keeping up on the news. But I don't like watching TV or any other medium that pushes products on me. As a result, I have 10 year old car, a 7 year old 32" tube TV, and a 4 year old phone. The only new things I have are my PC which I assembled about a year or 2 ago now, and the ever increasing supply of hard drives I need.

Besides all of that, I'm very happy, and I never feel a need to "keep up with the johnsons" in regards to the tech I own.

Haloki April 14 2009 2:25 PM EDT

this is meant to be satire but ok guys :P

AdminQBVerifex April 14 2009 2:36 PM EDT

/me brings it down a notch!

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] April 14 2009 2:49 PM EDT

Man, I just go to Charles's house for TV, man.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] April 14 2009 2:53 PM EDT

Are you frickin' serious?

Be glad you still have a TV to watch.

Bah indeed what is wrong with America. Luxury problems given by a society that is fat and lazy.

BadFish April 14 2009 3:01 PM EDT

Wow dudes. I'm pretty sure he was joking. Some people are just a bit too eager to leap up onto that soapbox....

Thak April 14 2009 3:04 PM EDT

I thought it was pretty obvious it was a joke.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] April 14 2009 3:11 PM EDT

Me too Thak, me too.

"i have to make due with my 32inch sqaure thing for two days!!!!! why oh why does everything bad happen to me! has the universe ruined anyone else's life recently!"

The universe keeps knocking out my power recently. Like, for the past 2 weeks. I really, really rely on electricity for a lot.

Haloki April 14 2009 3:51 PM EDT

to clarify this did happen no im not upset about it it is "big deal" right anyway the thought came to me to post this as i am american and i figured others could have a reality check by sharing their "tough luck" situations.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] April 14 2009 5:10 PM EDT

'Has the universe ruined anyone else's life recently?'

Yep, cant go to the University of Chicago due to money problems. TT

QBRanger April 14 2009 5:29 PM EDT

"Yep, cant go to the University of Chicago due to money problems. TT "

I took 50k out in student loans to go to college and medical school. Can you not get a loan?

I know of many others who went to public schools to avoid heavy tuition. I was one of those. And even then it cost me over 50k to get my education.

While Univ of Chicago is an excellent school, there should be othe choices for an education.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] April 14 2009 5:33 PM EDT

Wow, I owe like 50k in student loans after 2 years of college..

QBRanger April 14 2009 5:38 PM EDT

I went to state schools.

I have friends who went to private medical school and owe over 200k.

Guess I chose correctly in where I matriculated.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] April 14 2009 5:43 PM EDT

Henk: Satire. Learn it, quickly.

ScY April 14 2009 5:45 PM EDT

State school for me, but a loan for 50k will pay for approximately less than one year at U chicago. So money being what it is, paying .25M to go to school for 4 years (one way or another since financial aid was ~8k X 4 years = ~.2M) is a little bit not plausible.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] April 14 2009 5:50 PM EDT

No actually this post has me thinking.

Even satire has a base of truth in it. Here is an example of someone who had the money to buy a TV, he/she saved up or more probably loaned, so he/she could buy aforementioned TV.

And actually feels that all of the luck in the world was against him/her when the TV broke. Yeah everyone is out of luck.

Heck I just had to chop up a piece of chipset cooling because my タ100 soundcard wasn't going to fit in my 120 euro motherboard, because that thing was in my way. And in the only spot it would fit, it would block the fan of my タ350 vidcard.
I was thinking OMG this could only happen to me!

No this post reflects the state of mind the topic starter was in. OMG it could only happen to me! (?)

Wizard'sFirstRule April 14 2009 5:54 PM EDT

way too much sarcasm in this thread. </sarcasm>

Haloki April 14 2009 6:33 PM EDT

like i said satire points out how ridiculous we all are ;p

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] April 14 2009 6:48 PM EDT

One of the favorite things my English teachers says "What's the danger in Satire? Someone might not get it." lol.

Haloki April 14 2009 9:35 PM EDT

TA TA DAH thank you lol

AdminShade April 15 2009 1:21 AM EDT

I feel sorry for you, but also for myself.

I only have a 24 inch 1920*1200 monitor and a 32 inch tv...

Demigod April 15 2009 1:27 AM EDT

My fiance and I are about to cut off our cable TV as we never watch it. However, I'll stab you in the face if you try to take away my 22" monitor, her laptop, or our broadband internet.

Cube April 15 2009 2:22 AM EDT

I have the best tv ever.

32 inch, got it for $0, $5 for the guy to drive it over. Weighs a ton, CRT.
Not even a real television, just a monitor, no channel functions etc.
