New Star Trek (in Off-topic)

kevlar May 2 2009 5:48 PM EDT

Anyone heard anything about it? Just seen the trailers, and it looks pretty intense. I've only ever watched STNext Generation and some of the others, but it seems interesting to see a themed movie like this with a whole new cast.

QBsutekh137 May 2 2009 5:54 PM EDT

I don't watch "Lost", but I sure didn't mind "Cloverfield", or whatever the heck it ended up being called.

That was good action, so a cool Trek with that level of intensity sounds fun. At worst, I worry about things looking like a TV movie -- that won't be the case with the new Trek, at least.

I've seen a trailer. I probably will watch this movie. Sounds like a nice movie, with lots of action. But, I didn't get a feeling like it's a Star Trek movie, or at least not similar to TOS Star Trek.

By the way, is this an odd or even numbered Star Trek movie?

kevlar May 2 2009 5:59 PM EDT

oooo why do you ask odd or even? I think this is number 11 looking off a site.

QBsutekh137 May 2 2009 6:07 PM EDT

One is better than the other, right? Evens, I think, going by Khan and the whale one...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 2 2009 6:12 PM EDT

Seems like an over hyped 90210. I'll probably watch it, on DvD or Terrestial TV. When it's finally out.

But I won't be going to see it at the movies. I'd rather go watch Wolverine (urg!) again!

QBsutekh137 May 2 2009 6:20 PM EDT

Oh, come now, GL... I can't for the life of me understand why folks think Wolverine is the shiz-natchuity in the X-Men 'verse. I Was tired of him after the first XMen movie, and I think DO think Hugh Jackman is a fine actor. He's like a classier version of Russell Crowe (I'll admit, I like him, too...)

QBsutekh137 May 2 2009 6:21 PM EDT

And Cloverfield looked like an over-hyped "Blair Witch"... I didn't think it was, though. It wasn't the greatest thing I have ever seen, but then I haven't seen that since... When did "Army of Darkness" come out? *grin*

Adminedyit [Superheros] May 2 2009 6:21 PM EDT

i've been a star trek fan since i was a little kid, i'll go see this on that alone then i'll decide if it stinks or if its decent

QBRanger May 2 2009 6:24 PM EDT

People like Wolverine due to his ability to actually kill. And you see it with is claws.

That is the bomb.

Also, given the fact you cannot kill him, that makes him quite powerful.

My favorite X-Man is Rogue. After her battles with Mrs. Marvel. When she joined the good side.

I loved the inner turmoil she had after stealing Mrs. Marvel's powers. Add the fact she could never have physical intimacy made her a great flawed superhero.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 2 2009 6:29 PM EDT

The Wolvie moive (and I hate how he's become the X Man poster child. He's in so many teams/crossovers it's silly) is crap. They butchered his history and wasted the best character in the movie (Deadpool).

But I'd rather watch that again than the new ST film. ;)

My favorite X man is a toughy. Exodus nicked my Super Power (Magnetic Control? Pah! Gravity Manipulation! :P), and I like the idea of Elixir. I've never really like most of the X Man enough to have a favorite (blasphemy! :P).

Gambit > all, can't beat his one liners.

New star Trek looks cool, but you know what looks 1000000x more amazing...

I don't remember, but I saw the trailer for it yesterday and it looked so clean I called my best friend to tell him we are going day 1. Jeez, I feel stupid now for forgetting LOL!

kevlar May 2 2009 8:19 PM EDT

Jir, the new Terminator? Transformers?

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- May 3 2009 4:02 AM EDT

Haha, yeah transformers... looks so sick! like :O I looooveeed the first one, and the second one looks so much more intense!

Salvation looks cool to, ever since I was a little kid I always wanted them to make a movie about the war itself, like if you look back to T-1 when the guy has a nightmare about being in the future and the war... that looked so sick at the time, so I'm pretty stoked all around :)

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] May 9 2009 2:24 AM EDT

Just saw the movie today. Me and 3 other people who don't know anything about Star Trek. We all thoroughly enjoyed the film.

kevlar May 25 2009 1:18 AM EDT

Finally got to see it tonight, and on one of the digital movie screens (first time). Was really good, I thought, except for the Spock meeting Spock part which was kind of ... ya. The guy who played Bones was awesome, and Sylar is a SOLID replacement for Spock. The only character I couldn't adapt to was Harold for Mr. Sulu. The other loose end was the Wrath of Khan type bug put in Pike... they didn't show how it worked or it coming out. Is it still in him?? You put it in you take it out... ST2 did, the Matrix did, but not this time.
All in all, I think the franchise strat to make new movies was brilliant. They have a clean slate with whatever they want to do, something Star Wars can't. Something I wish Alien would have done after the release of #3.
Can't wait to see the next installment!

AdminShade May 25 2009 1:19 AM EDT

spock meeting old spock indeed was a bit strange, but apart from that it actually was a good movie.

Even some of my friends who aren't SF fans liked it.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw May 25 2009 3:14 AM EDT

I've never been a trekkie, but I greatly enjoyed the movie. The only problem I see with it is it simply leaves you wanting more, but there isn't any new star trek other than that movie! I've watched it three times so far, and each time it's simply fantastic.

Cube May 25 2009 8:34 AM EDT

See the movie, it's awesome; there's nothing else worth seeing now that I can think of.

Also, can't wait for Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr. November), looks like it'll be good.
