Firefly (in Off-topic)

QBJohnnywas May 9 2009 10:59 AM EDT

Just switched over to the Sci-Fi Channel. They're showing Firefly all weekend. I never tire of it.

Our Mrs Reynolds is on next. Pretty much my favourite episode. Ah. Feet up, nice drink, nice food, great TV. Perfect Saturday afternoon.

IT'S SATURDAY!!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 9 2009 11:09 AM EDT

Firefly was awesome. Best series he's done so far, including Doll House.

It was a travesty it was cancelled. :(

QBRanger May 9 2009 11:10 AM EDT

Give Doll House a chance.

Yesterday's episode was incredible. It likely will not be renewed for a 2nd season. But, it was very entertaining, and I think just as good as Firefly.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 9 2009 11:12 AM EDT

GRRR mine is still showing infomercials
Give me my Firefly!

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 9 2009 11:13 AM EDT

I'll have to settle for AMC showing war games

Wasp May 9 2009 11:17 AM EDT

What is that saturday link? I was hoping that annoying person would get hit by a car or something.

I love Firefly/Serenity.

As for Dollhouse, I think it's excellent (though Firefly is better), and I think Robert Bianco has the right idea about it:

From Wikipedia:
Robert Bianco of USA Today wrote that, though Dollhouse is not boring or ordinary, the end result is a show "that [Joss Whedon's] most devoted fans will debate and embrace, and a mass audience just won't get."

QBJohnnywas May 9 2009 12:15 PM EDT

"you're going to burn in a very special level of hell"

Lord Bob May 9 2009 12:16 PM EDT

Dollhouse is excellent.

I never had an opportunity to see Firefly.

QBJohnnywas May 9 2009 12:18 PM EDT

If you like Joss Whedon' writing and you like things like Star Wars then you really should watch Firefly.

It's kind of like Star Wars if you got rid of the Jedi and made Han Solo and the Falcon the main characters.

QBsutekh137 May 9 2009 12:21 PM EDT

I liked Angel better. Then again, it got a chance to continue and finish (one of the best series finales ever, IMO...)

QBJohnnywas May 9 2009 12:22 PM EDT

"I call it Vera"

Lord Bob May 9 2009 12:26 PM EDT

"If you like Joss Whedon' writing and you like things like Star Wars then you really should watch Firefly."

That's what everyone tells me, and I loved all his other shows. I just never got around to watching it. Hopefully someday I'll catch it from the beginning.

QBJohnnywas May 9 2009 12:30 PM EDT

Sut your point about Angel finishing is kind of right. It's a shame Firefly was cancelled, but Serenity does kind of finish things off. You are left wanting more though. That's probably what makes me prefer Firefly.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 9 2009 12:45 PM EDT

There were two more movies that Joss has said will never be made...

ScY May 9 2009 1:06 PM EDT

The movie they made from the series, Serenity was really suburb. I really enjoy the series as well except its NEVER EVER on, a result of it being canceled (which pisses me off to no end).

Really cool that its on today. Gonna go watch it! ^_^

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 9 2009 1:12 PM EDT

The only TV show I've ever seen (besides some stuff on Discovery, and news shows) is Battlestar Galactica. I hear Firefly is good too, so I'll have to try and catch it.

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] May 9 2009 1:30 PM EDT

Hah. Doll House can be summed up for me in 2 words:

Eliza Dushku.

*drools*

QBRanger May 9 2009 1:31 PM EDT

The best Sci-Fi TV show ever was Bablyon 5.

Except for a slight degeneration of plot in the last season, due to a contract dispute making one of the key actresses leave, it was a very well written cohesive story.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 9 2009 1:39 PM EDT

*high fives Ranger*

Hell yeah! MJS is awesome! If you liked B5 (apart from the Shadow War), check out his Superhero Comic "Rising Stars". More genious! ;)

B5 was for me to Sci Fi series what Robotech was to cartoons/anime. The first one with a real on going plot. It knocked the socks off of the unchanging ever resetting ST:TNG. ;)

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 9 2009 1:41 PM EDT

I screen-shotted that, so I will always have proof that Ranger and GL were able to agree on something. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 9 2009 1:41 PM EDT

Hakai, that's one of the major problems with Doll House. ED just doesn't have the presence for a leading roll. She works much better on screen as support, like she did in Buffy.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 9 2009 1:42 PM EDT

Pfft! We've agreed on things before. Mostly Stuff that doesn't revolve around making Ranger better able to hold the top spot. ;)

We agree on the Bonuses for one! And EXBow Drains, the new AoJ, etc. :P

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 9 2009 1:44 PM EDT

Yes, but this has to be the first time you've (virtually speaking, of course) "high-fived" him.

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] May 9 2009 1:50 PM EDT

Well....GL, I dunno whether Doll House could use improvements or not yet, as we have only seen a few of the first episodes. We watched it up until the "twist" burglary involving the FBI agent's girlfriend.

We have the rest on our DVR so we can watch them a few at a time.

BUT. I only started watching it because I saw that she was going to be in it. I watched Tru Calling for the same reason xD. You have to at least agree that she is something nice to look at while I watch the show... lol

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 9 2009 2:48 PM EDT

No doubt! ;)

But Tru Calling... I think I watched a single episode of it before I couldn't stomach any more!

QBRanger May 9 2009 4:22 PM EDT

I remember people saying the same thing about SMG in Buffy the first year or even 2 it was on.

ED has to grow into the role. It is a very complicated one having to deal with multiple personalities, a different one each week.

I thought she did a very good to excellent job on the season finale.

With all the drivel on TV, I do hope they give it at least 1 more season to find its audience.

Perhaps it should have been on HBO or Showtime with its adult type themes.

Or just get someone like Megan Fox as the main doll.

Lochnivar May 9 2009 4:28 PM EDT

sad really that the option of casting someone to appeal to an even more shallow section of the population than ED can has come up.... that said, Ranger isn't wrong.

I watched the Serenity movie and must say I was impressed... it is rewatchable which is always a good sign.

ScY May 9 2009 4:39 PM EDT

The latest really cool show on NBC (Sat at 8) is Kings. Its a really well written story based from David (in the Bible) of a monarchy in the 21st century (or roughly he 21st century). And has some really nice acting in it as well. Check it out!
