1 more friend of mine is going into foreclosure (in Off-topic)

Little Anthony May 14 2009 3:33 AM EDT

After hearing my close friend case received an 24 hours eviction notice last month. He, who is 6 month married, and his wife, who is 2 months pregnant, are moving back to their grandpa.
Today, another friend cried saying her part-time 600$/month job is the only income her house has and she, along with laid off family members, has no other options but to lose the house...(worse, they have no one else to move back to)

Bless! (admin edit: loose is not the same as lose)

Very sad to hear the state of things is still going down hill... Hope all gets better for them... and let the sun shine on them and theirs...

Tell them to come to England. They'll get a house, car, phone, new trainers and some spending money.

Why is that wasp?

Or they can go to China, live in a hut and be like the other billion people there.

With no running water, no electricity, no transportation. And the threat of being thrown in prison at the first mention of discontent.

personally, i would move to some random place in the Canadian Boreal Forest and become one with nature.

And one without modern hygiene. ;)

Sorry LA, I hope everything works out for them.

Hope for the best.

My girlfriend's from Beijing and my mom and step-dad are currently living in Shanghai. I'm pretty sure they all have access to running water and electricity.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 14 2009 11:49 AM EDT

The majority of the people in China do not live in the cities.

Cube May 14 2009 11:56 AM EDT

Just a thought, let's not start an argument in *this* thread. That's clearly not what it was made for.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] May 14 2009 12:18 PM EDT

Oh, I'm sorry Fox. You're right. I guess the 42.3% of China's population isn't really close enough to be considered the majority. So therefore his statement was right that no one in China has running water or electricity. I'm sure no one who is Chinese will be offended by that statement.

I will repeat what Cube said... drop it or start your own debate post...

As for the OP, hopefully things turn around for your friends.

I have 2 points to make:
A) people that go into foreclosure usually have themselves to blame. They buy a house too big for their income and didn't plan beforehand. I am not to say that the banks etc are faultless, they did advertise home loan etc too much, but ultimately it is a "bad" decision in the good times that goes sour in rougher times.
B) China is getting better in terms of living standard. Even smaller cities etc have really good intrastructure, I haven't been to villages in China, but I have been living in Hong Kong for all of my childhood and visited several cities in mainland just recently. The living standard are most certainly not barely above poverty (as a previous poster implies by saying no electricity and no water).

Unfortunately, most of the recent cases of foreclosure are from what were originally perfectly fine deals. With the economic slowdown though that wasn't anticipated, someone gets fired/ business goes under/ forced to work fewer hours/doesn't get a raise etc. the deal goes bad.

I find it pretty unfair when someone goes and blames the people experiencing the foreclosures. They did nothing wrong.

Good luck to your friends, LA.

Round 2 lay off is coming. I hope it does not affect anyone here. Words are even good shape companies are doing it like a "trend".
