RoBF reduces decay backlash? (in General)

three4thsforsaken May 26 2009 2:47 AM EDT

Does it? I'm referring to backlash caused by AMF of course.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] May 26 2009 3:21 AM EDT

RoBF doesn't reduce any DD backlash.

Rawr May 26 2009 3:26 AM EDT

For Opvines,

Tertiary effect: Magic resistance; protection against Direct Damage Spells, sans Decay and direct Sling of Death hits. This effect is a percentage-based effect, meaning the largest tattoo in the game would reduce magic by about 25% as a RoBF; however, getting to 15% or 20% is relatively common. Unfortunately, it gets pretty hard to go up past that. To get to 30% would require being 6x larger than the largest tattoo.
Quaternary effect: Protects against AMF backlash equal to the magic resistance.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] May 26 2009 3:29 AM EDT

Right... so that says it reduces DD and not DD backlash... So how was I wrong?

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] May 26 2009 3:29 AM EDT

OH. Nevermind. Skimmed it too fast.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] May 26 2009 3:30 AM EDT

Rawr.. thank you.. you just made my day..

Rawr May 26 2009 4:05 AM EDT

Nice! So early in the day, too!

Brakke Bres [Ow man] May 26 2009 7:22 AM EDT

Good question, as it removes some of the DD backlash I can only imagine it would work for decay as well. However since this is CB and decay is by far one of the most strongest spells, it probably doesn't.

Cube May 26 2009 10:14 AM EDT

Decay is way too unreliable to invest too much more than base into it.

three4thsforsaken May 26 2009 10:21 AM EDT

Cube, saying its unreliable doesn't answer my question. I know how it works, thank you.

QBRanger May 26 2009 10:44 AM EDT

The old version of the ToE did reduced AMF decay backlash.

I would then assume, since the RBF took that function over, it does the same.

three4thsforsaken May 26 2009 12:05 PM EDT

yeah, it would seem so. But a little evidence would be nice.

Cube May 26 2009 12:06 PM EDT

I was talking to Henk. I'm sorry; didn't know your threads are all about you.

three4thsforsaken May 26 2009 12:12 PM EDT

Neither did I. I just figured staying on topic would be nice. Henk was on topic, you were not.

Besides, you can invest more than base into a decay. Coupled with RoBF backlash damage, they can do some very serious damage with relatively low investment.

People are investing less and less into AMF because of Ranger's "advice" that NSC are overpowered, so a great way to capalize on this is to actually invest in decay.

Decay might be the only thing in this game that can break the GA cap without costing an arm and leg in exp.

Cube May 26 2009 12:20 PM EDT

Just stating an opinion. 20 HP in front backed by PL wrecks decay. I was stating this because Henk implied that AMF backlash protection would make it overpowered, and I don't think so.

As for the AMF backlash, I bet it works, but also cannot test.

Battle against Randall Flagg:

Sauerkraut:
Hit Points: 1,794,446
Base Decay (+NSC)
RoBF level 1.8 mil.
POWER POTION cast Antimagic Field on Sauerkraut (0.85)
I should receive damage equal to 42.5% of remaining health each round.

1st round of Melee:
Sauerkraut takes damage from his own Decay (246484)!
Sauerkraut's Decay hit CURE 3 [61680]
CURE 3's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (32387)

246,484 / 1,794,446 = .13736
Remaining HP: 1,515,575

2nd Melee:
Sauerkraut takes damage from his own Decay (208178)!
Sauerkraut's Decay hit REFLECT [60425]
REFLECT's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (31537)

208,178 / 1,515,575 = .13736
Remaining HP: 1,275,860

3rd Melee:
Sauerkraut takes damage from his own Decay (175251)!
Sauerkraut's Decay hit REFLECT [5371]
REFLECT's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (2743)

13.736% of HP taken
Remaining HP: 1,097,866

4th Melee:

Sauerkraut's Decay hit Hal [125583]
Hal's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (66299)

Sauerkraut's Decay hit Hal [73399]
Hal's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (38838)

13.736%
Remaining HP: 720,946

6th Melee:
Sauerkraut takes damage from his own Decay (99028)!
Sauerkraut's Decay hit Hal [26455]
Hal's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (14003)

13.736%
Remaining HP: 607,915

7th Melee:
Sauerkraut takes damage from his own Decay (83502)!
Sauerkraut's Decay hit POWER POTION [19499]
POWER POTION's Guardian Angel smote Sauerkraut (10143)

13.736%

Ummm... If I was supposed to be hit back with 42.5% of my HP, it looks like my RoBF is reducing AMF backlash by 67.68%.

Can anyone explain this?

Also, it looks like RoBF does not reduce incoming Decay damage. Last I checked, this means it's working properly.

QBRanger May 26 2009 2:59 PM EDT

Try a fight both with and without your RBF on.

See if the AMF backlash is less with it on.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 26 2009 3:13 PM EDT

WT, it looks like the RoBF is reducing your Backlash by subtraction. If you're is large enough to provide about a 28.8% DD reduction.

This would mean that a RoBF could reduce AMF backlash to zero.

Would anyone be able to test this? Use a large RoBF on a minion and face a very small AMF (preferably less than 20% after any NSC).

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] May 26 2009 3:21 PM EDT

Good call, ranger.

Same opponent, same starting HP, same NSCs, no RoBF.

13.736 / 17 = .808, meaning that my RoBF seems to provide about 19.2% reduction of Decay backlash.

Interestingly, 17% is 1/5 of 0.85, whereas I expected backlash should be 0.85*0.5. Does anyone know why this is?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 26 2009 3:27 PM EDT

It's not something silly like the MGS reducing AMF backlash?

I would have expected 0.85*0.5 as well. :/

"Rusted Hubcap [0] (+34) (Mage Shield) 53 days"

/facepalm

Duh. Nice catch.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 26 2009 3:33 PM EDT

Mind trying a fight without it? I don't think the MGS should reduce Backlash damage, but I guess it sees it as magic damage, and no one (apart from Decay) would be able to use a DD with it.

If it is that, it's a nice addition to a Base Decay on a MGS wearing minion!

So no, the MgS makes no difference. Whether or not I have the RoBF equipped is the only know factor thus far, and it makes it go between 13.736% and 17%.

I know AC doesn't affect Decay damage and shouldn't help against AMF backlash from Decay. However, does anyone know if Innate Armor does anything special or weird with regard to this?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 26 2009 3:55 PM EDT

Hmmm... No idea then. How much Innate Armour do you get form SS? Even if that was reducing AMF backlash, It wouldn't redcue it that much?

Maybe the AMF for Decay has changed.

Would someone else with large HP and Decay mind posting thier backlash?

Cube May 26 2009 3:56 PM EDT

AMF only returns 40% of the damage. That's what you're seeing.

three4thsforsaken May 26 2009 5:20 PM EDT

So it seems just about right. RoBF does reduce decay amf backlash at about 20%. Thanks guys!
