WAR: AT&T's opening salvo (in Off-topic)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 26 2009 11:21 PM EDT

The Big Bad Bell has tolled out the chime of war. AT&T has begun blocking access to /b/ on 4chan. Even the slimy underbelly of the internet deserves better than to be simply null routed out of existence.

Despite the fact it's beginning with the worst of the worst this does reflect on the power of tier 1 providers in censoring the internet. Even if this event somehow blows over without serious a event and media coverage it still is a historical moment in internet history.

Adi July 26 2009 11:22 PM EDT

There is no way this will go unchallenged

QBOddBird July 26 2009 11:28 PM EDT

It will be interesting to see how this evolves.

The /b/tards are already pitching a mighty fit with all the fury of a thousand raging angsty teens.

Goodfish July 26 2009 11:32 PM EDT

What's 4chan, and what's /b/?

Kefeck [FARM ME] July 26 2009 11:32 PM EDT

yah what he said ^^ ?

DoS July 26 2009 11:35 PM EDT

Did this just happen today? I went on but I'm skeptical to click their links ;). This is pretty crazy

Shark July 26 2009 11:35 PM EDT

well I went to find more out about this and googled "ATT blocking services" and my work comp wouldn't allow me to open the site because somewhere the term "pornography" was used on the page...
okey went around that and googled "ATT/ch4", couldn't pull that up because somewhere the word "firearms" was used on that page..
okey googled ATT and internet service and couldn't pull that up because somewhere on the page the term "gamble" was used..

I don't know anything about this alleged "censorship", my work comp wont let me google it

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 26 2009 11:37 PM EDT

I don't think I'll link to anything here...

4chan is a message board, /b/ is the section of that message board responsible for Anonymous. If you're a cat abuser, a scientologist, or Sarah Palin you already know who they are.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 26 2009 11:38 PM EDT

Most of that post is pretty safe... please don't click without understanding that even a discussion of /b/ might include things you don't want to read or see.

QBOddBird July 26 2009 11:47 PM EDT

Yeah, there's good reason they picked /b/ as their target for access blockage...

Still, as novice says, even /b/ doesn't deserve it. No censorship!

Adi July 26 2009 11:48 PM EDT

sho nuff
I went to /b/ to see what/if they are organizing and couldn't get in (I could have tried another 2 proxies..)

I guess they will have to go to irc

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- July 27 2009 12:22 AM EDT

Wow... Really?

This is almost as funny as china blocking youtube.

QBOddBird July 27 2009 12:24 AM EDT

Adi - check status.4chan, http://s6.invisionfree.com/ProjectATT/index.php as well

the actual board will be difficult to find the raid threads on due to massive thread spam.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 27 2009 12:26 AM EDT

Reports are still coming in that this is a response to floods coming from the /b/ webservers ip. It's possible that flood using the spoofed ip have cause ATT to respond with a block.

IndependenZ July 27 2009 2:18 AM EDT

Yes, we can.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw July 27 2009 2:56 AM EDT

Apparently the ban is lifted, according to one of the threads in the information forum.

Adminedyit [Superheros] July 27 2009 5:19 AM EDT

if you've never heard of 4chan consider yourself blessed...

Phaete July 27 2009 7:36 AM EDT

Only in America...

Seen the same news Ranger posted elsewhere. In some ways, it's funny how protective we are of our free speech.
