Weapon advice (in General)

OK, I've this:

The Grey King [92x8000] (+101) worth $78,303,974

It's a BoNE. Fighting without it, with only my Mageseeker equipped I lose one person off my fightlist. A weapon that's capable of over 1.5 million per strike (without bloodlust) and it's near enough useless at the moment. But now I don't know what to do.

I could disenchant, but I'd lose over 35 million CBD that way. Not a perfect situation. Although that would free up over 35 million CBD also which I could use to either improve my Mageseeker further, or put towards buying another minion. I could put it into rentals, it's a powerful weapon, but it's not massive in NW, so it could be used quite low down by a decent tank and not eat into encumbrance. Or I could sell it, but for that to work I'd need at least 40 million CBD otherwise it's not worth my while.

Or I could simply carry on using it.

What would you suggest? Any other options?

And no, I'm not going to give it away.... ;)

Try to insta down in a series of steps?

Looks like one them items that might get some use in rentals.

Johnny, did you start as an archer with a Melee Weapons, or a Melee Tank useing a Ranged weapon?

Are you finding the BoNE less useful now, becuase you're killing most people in range, through Archery?

Would you consider going the whole hog and ditching the Mageseeker for an Elbow?

My tank has so far been melee based, but with archery trained so I can use a bow. Without archery the Mageseeker is useless, and as a single tank with no decent ranged attack (I've tried bloodlust) and no enchantments my guy is useless at this level.

I did run with a Morg and a SoC, thinking that the inbuilt VA was useful, but switching to a BoNE and BoM got me the same results.

The BoNE really only guarantees me one target on my fightlist, I do lose them without it, but I'm sure I could find another to replace them if I upped the BoW. An ELB would do the trick probably but as I'm doing near ELB damage with the Mageseeker anyway (my current MPB is from the bow) I can't really see the point.

I did like being some weird archer/melee hybrid but if I can get the same results with 80 million NW less then it seems a little pointless...

Oh, and the ratio of ranged to melee wins is weighted quite heavily in the melee area. Even with the bow suffering dex penalties in melee and not hitting every round.

I say near ELB damage, but looking over what presume are newly reset MPBs by ELB users I'm seeing 2 million plus hits. Which apparently weren't happening a couple of weeks ago according to a couple of ELB users....

Maybe you can change it over to a different weapon to see how it works for you sometimes a Cleanup weapon is what you need.

Rentals is always an option but it is slow and takes a lot of your personal time to upkeep.

Then you do have disenchant, the problem I see with Disenchant is that you still lose half of your invested CBD that way is not a real option to me.

With Insta's you at least have a chance of making more money.

You have mentioned most of your own options already I think the 2 most viable for you are Insta and Salvage Yard. At the very least I would say change it over to see what happens if it still doesnt help then try to Insta it.

Always forget about the salvage yard. Hmmm. It's a MoD now, with about 600 less on the X due to the difference in upgrade costs.

However it's not doing much different in damage because of the AS factor, and I get the joys of a one handed weapon and dex. Over half a mill extra dex than I have with a two handed melee weapon.

I'll try it out for a while and see...

or sell it off for 40m to someone on a long term pay plan :)

Well, the MPB of the BoNE was about 1.5 mill, the MPB of the Mageseeker, was 1.3 mill and the MoD has one of 1.6 mill. I'll have to do some testing to see if it gains me anybody though. That's the real trick.

By the way, a ranged salvage yard would be nice...

The MoD doesn't gain me any victims. Hmmm....

Now if the MoD could be changed so that double damage against AS became inbuilt DM...maybe I wouldn't have quite so much trouble with GA...

I was in a similar situation with a 50M NW ELS. I lost nobody from my list so I DE'd it and moved on.

But what's the underlying issue here?

Melee not good enough? Or Archery+Bows performing better than Melee?

I'm not sure there is an issue here, ranged damage is good, but then against a decent GA or a large DD and I'm toast.

The...happening if you like...is that if you focus your damage in one place you don't necessarily need another damage. Like using mage and physical damage dealers on one team. Sometimes one of those if you look close enough is actually wasted and can be replaced by something else.

So you could not use your bow, and use your BoNE/MoD and not lose people off your fight list (or gain as many as you lose)?

Is your Bow significantly larger than your Melee weapon?

oh dear, disenchant was too tempting. 2nd minion here I come.

The bow was 20 mill more expensive, so not really bigger, and damage was comparable between the two.

As a single minion I found I couldn't run as a melee based single tank. That's why I trained archery so I could get some decent damage in ranged, which because of my lack of enchantments is really my only defence. If that makes sense.

I did better when I rented a large pair of DBs, but I'm also trying to keep NW low, even going as far as no tattoo, so I can keep my rewards as high as I can get them up here. 40% challenge bonus isn't too shabby for these parts...

The RoS will be your bane.

And it is a great foil for all those stating the ELB or missile damage in general is overpowered.

If your going to keep this character for a while, I think it was a great thing to do.

For a tank, it is nearly impossible to have both a missile and melee weapon large enough to compete in the top ranks.

Without breaking the USD bank of course.

Pick one and stick with it.

Yeah, I'm sticking with this guy. Disenchanting bites, but so does running an NCB or getting up for work in the morning.

I can see what I want to do with it now though, hopefully it should work out..
