Would you referal for more? (in General)
What if the money earned on referals was higher, would people refers more new players to come in and stay?
I've tried referring, and it wasn't for the money...

Getting referrals is harder than you think.
The money isn't the problem. It is the referral system that doesn't work. I have tried to refer 4 people so far and it only worked for 1 of them.

I don't think it's a money issue, either. It's just not easy to get many people interested in a niche game. Most people want graphics.
It just hard to find places where you won't be shot because you posted a ref. link. I tried several times. Some game directories also refused the link when I submitted it.

I thought most forums were chillaxed if you gave the regular link and then gave a referral link without hiding it.

I have to agree with Demigod. I would refer more if I knew that my referrals would actually play the game.

flamey - in my experience, most other games/forums have a huge problem with advertising other games in their space.
In relation to OB's post:
That was my experience, at least. Even in signatures, which is the best way to get a ref link advertised. I wish the internet in general would realize that this kind of link is everywhere anyway, and absolutely necessary in some cases to shed light on obscure but interesting sites. Heck, I discovered CB that way, as well as many hilarious comedy pages.
I understand that it's easy for someone to spam links everywhere when they are permitted, but a quick ban/moderation action of choice resolves this. Or limiting them to signatures for the best results while encouraging the exchange of traffic. This is Web 2.0 after all, and we are not driving on a one way street.
"I thought most forums were chillaxed if you gave the regular link and then gave a referral link without hiding it."
I posted just a referral link on 3 sites. 2 of them left it up, the other took it down because it doesn't allow any game posting like I did. The problem is only about 1/3 or 1/4 of the clicks actually tried the game out, and none of them stayed, none of them. Out of the eight people who saw my little paragraph about the game and clicked the link the longest one stayed for a week or two. I find this the hardest thing about referrals.
fix the tutorial and I might think it was worth spending time getting referrals
We could also set up a list of link friendly sites? Would that help?
I have a long standing offer to give a free supporter item to anyone who gets 5 people to become supporters
Not to pull Semantics NS but I have done that a few times already. Not through referral but I still did this none-the-less. :P

He scored big by posting his link in a game directory. Game Ogre it is, IIRC.

How do you add a game to a game directory?

I think that would be super helpful, Beartato. If we knew which sites would allow us to refer - and I'm sure there are a number out there - then perhaps we'd have more luck with getting people into CB.
You submit it to them either via an automatic form, or you email the webmaster, depends on the site. Either way, I've never been able to link CB anywhere. And I tried several sites. Maybe I'm not very good at making that kind of demand though, so others could have more success.
Carnage already has 3 myspace pages. I'm thinking we should find out who got those running, and either use one of them to "make friends" (Preferably people belonging to a gamer group of some sort, as to not be seen as spamming. After reading their TOS, this does not seems to pose a problem.) or create a new one. WoW has a page, with plenty of links to them, so we can do the exact same, right?

Since I started posting the offer? Sweet! Just let me know who, and what item you want.
> NS, Alienfb has referred 16 supporters
He has the most profitable supporter link ever.. however, he hasn't logged in in 3 years :(

well, if he doesn't want his items, I'll take em for him. :)
Also, Changemonth data could be Twittered.

Most of them came from this link:

You have to be a little more specific than that. Everyone claims that it's broken, but without more data to go on, I can't fix anything.
> WoW has a page, with plenty of links to them, so we can do the exact same, right?
I don't see why not.
> Also, Changemonth data could be Twittered.
How?
"I don't see why not."
Me neither. There's three major sites on which we could have a page. The pages could be managed by one or more members of CB, and we could vote for who we want those people to be.
We are currently not taking advantage of a page/account on:
Myspace, Twitter, Facebook. I mean, what? There is an immense potential there. FB an Space have one set up, but they're basically barren and almost friendless. There are probably some other places we can go, and we could even comb Alexa to find them.
I nominate you, Bear, to go and do all of those things :)
I'm going to start by setting up an Email address I can link to all the CB accounts on different sites. Maybe I can then share the account info to the admins or something, so the whole thing does not sit entirely on my shoulders.
Is the image applied to the log on screen usable as a myspace profile picture?
I don't see why not. I could be wrong, though :)
"> When the tutorial is FIXED, I'll try again."
I share this sentiment. The few people I got started playing this game got very upset and annoyed with the tutorial and quit. It should just be redone and have it just have it tell people to read the wiki and ask questions in the forum and on chat. People don't like to be told what to do over and over again (ie train dex, hire minions, ect.) esp when it glitches and keeps telling them to do it again when they have already done it.
