Extend Botcheck time? (in General)

TheCakeIsTheTruth August 18 2009 9:09 PM EDT

Just failed a botcheck, would of got it if I had some extra time. I don't see why we can't have some more time. Is there a bot out there that'll crack the botcheck if given more than 2 minutes?

well yes: http://www.carnageblender.com/shared/community-member.tcl?user_id=47585

As I recall, the bot wasn't really bypassing the checks. Just fighting for him and he checked it occasionally to see if he had a botcheck. I could definitely be wrong though.

lol I remember DAWG! Silly Botters.

IIRC, DAWG didn't have a very good rate of passing botchecks (the number 25% springs to mind, for whatever reason). I don't think an extra minute would make a bot any more successful (you'd think a bot would be pretty fast, right?), but I also don't really see how an extra minute would help a person very much. It certainly doesn't take me two minutes or more to figure out what word it is. Most of the time I fail a botcheck it's just because I'm going too fast and mistype.

Well, that and going to do something else without noticing a botcheck appeared, and then cursing my luck when I look back more than 2 minutes later to see a botcheck there. But I don't think a little bit of extra time would help that much, either.

Oh, and that 25% also has joined with it in my memory that the bot was actually trying to solve the botchecks. Don't know if that's accurate or not. Somebody should go find the thread, I don't think I'd have any luck at 3AM.

I think that people ask for another minute or two because of internet connection problems. I have had my internet reset right when i get a bot check and fail it that way. Or else sometimes on a slow connection the picture doesn't load in time.

I wonder when lawyers start issuing against bot checks damaging human brains.

as a programmer I see no problem with writing a piece of code to break any bot check in less then a month.

it is more difficult to write an automatic playing bot then to add to it bot check breaking rules.

for me bot checks are harming humans... not protecting against any bots.

and I see bigger problem in paying someone for click clacking then in paying or putting some effort in high level programming.

but of course sex is closer to click clacking and most people prefer month of "sex" non stop then month of learning anything else.

if this message breaks any unwritten low of the forum no need to keep it...

Can we place a timer at the bot check page?

One which would count down from the 2 (or any) time to 0 seconds so you would definitely know that you missed it.

Tyr makes sense. Giving a bot more time doesn't seem like it'd affect it. They have two attempts, we can keep that, but having a longer time gives those who walk away or internet die a chance to redeem themselves.

I'm going to go with a No on this one....
