tsk tsk Kanye (in Off-topic)

Rawr September 13 2009 10:39 PM EDT

Incase you didn't watch the VMA, Taylor Swift won the Best Female Video and as she was making her speech, Kanye walked up to the stage, took the mic, and proclaimed that Beyoncé should have won the award, leaving Taylor Swift standing there speechless. Opinion aside, Kanye's actions were just plain rude and ridiculous.

Rawr September 13 2009 10:40 PM EDT

Oh, and I adore Taylor Swift.

QBsutekh137 September 13 2009 10:41 PM EDT

Isn't Kanye regularly ridiculous?

Better go check YouTube!

As ridiculous as spell checker.

Alexisonfire September 13 2009 10:41 PM EDT

/me hates all those people/singers whatever they are hahaha.

Rawr September 13 2009 10:42 PM EDT

You dislike celebrities?

Alexisonfire September 13 2009 10:43 PM EDT

Yeah pretty much. dont see all the fuss....

QBsutekh137 September 13 2009 10:45 PM EDT

Can't say I care much for Taylor. Does she write her own stuff? (honest question).

But decorum is another matter. Kanye's a tool.

AdminQBVerifex September 13 2009 10:46 PM EDT

Sounds to me like security should have "escorted him away" for being a troublemaker. He just wants attention and now he gets it.

Alexisonfire September 13 2009 10:51 PM EDT

To me, this all sounds planned out so they get more popularity, or to make people feel sorry for taylor and buy her... uhh.. music if you can call it that...

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 13 2009 10:58 PM EDT

Tool or not he is right Beyonce can sing circles around Taylor Swift even with her own songs. She, just like Pattie LaBell, Has a full 8 Octive Range. Taylor is lucky to be able to utilize her 4 Octive Range as well as she does.

Still I agree Kanye should not have been suck a tool in voicing that the way he did, he does not have any couth.

QBsutekh137 September 13 2009 10:58 PM EDT

B can sing, that's a fact!

Burton September 13 2009 11:06 PM EDT

Who cares who can sing better. The fact is Taylor Swift won it, and Kayne shouldn't have done what he did. Bye bye to him. Imagine how she felt after that, and if you were in her shoes.

QBsutekh137 September 13 2009 11:06 PM EDT

Wait, 8 octave range? She is the world record holder?

I know Beyonce can sing, but I don't think she holds the world record (which is eight octaves...)

Tyriel [123456789] September 13 2009 11:08 PM EDT

"Tool or not he is right Beyonce can sing circles around Taylor Swift even with her own songs."

"Taylor Swift won the Best Female Video"

I think a music video should be a little more than scantily clad women gyrating. But that's just me. :)

And does this surprise anybody? It's Kanye West, it's not like he hasn't done similar things before.

iBananco [Blue Army] September 13 2009 11:15 PM EDT

Even pianos don't have an 8 octave range.

j'bob September 13 2009 11:28 PM EDT

"Taylor Swift by the age of eighteen has achieved more in her musical career than most can dream of. Some of these achievements include: a triple platinum certification for her debut album, aptly titled モTaylor Swiftヤ, a CMA Award, an ACM Award, a Grammy nomination and six top ten singles as well as the well earned respect of Nashville and the wider country music community."
(from http://www.thenashvillesound.net/taylor-swift/ )

And yes, she writes her own songs. And yes Beyonce is talented also. And yes, Kayne is a total tool.

Edicinnej September 13 2009 11:30 PM EDT

Taylor Swift writes all of her own songs. I just watched the video and I felt pretty bad for her. Reports are saying that she was crying hysterically afterward. Sucks.

j'bob September 13 2009 11:35 PM EDT

LMBO.
And not the most official or scientific page, but it's just about the average answer on the net so until someone can find proof different...

Beyonce actually is a mezzo-soprano, and she has a 3.5 octave range.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_beyonce_an_alto_or_soprano

(8 octaves... giggle snort)

Lord Bob September 14 2009 12:11 AM EDT

They're replaying the awards right now, and I just saw Krapye West's disrespectful, tasteless, and blatantly racist outburst. I think he is about as useless a human being as one can get.

I think he and Joe Wilson should start a support group for people with a tendency for rude outbursts. And with any luck, someone will toss a live grenade into their first group meeting.

Kanye West: what a pig.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] September 14 2009 12:12 AM EDT

Mariah Carey has 5 octaves. Can Beyonce sing higher and lower than her? I think not. Though she does have a beautiful voice, and she knows how to use the range she's got.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] September 14 2009 12:22 AM EDT

Video, Video, Video. IMHO most of Taylor's videos are better than Beyonce's, and don't get me wrong, I love Beyonce. Halo could quite possibly be one of my favorite songs, but even that video is rather bland. Kanye, you got talent, but I recommend some classes in etiquette.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] September 14 2009 12:23 AM EDT

you have talent*, don't want Bast to flip on me XD.

j'bob September 14 2009 12:29 AM EDT

yep, video. And in my opinion Kanye, (cause I just know he's reading this) it's time to move past "pretty darn good dancing" vids. Cause that's what that Single Ladies vid was, right... just pretty darn good dancing?

It's funny cause so much will be thrown about comparing Taylor to Beyonce when it was the animal formerly known as Kanye that started this mess.

It's almost ironic that of all people, he jumped into Taylor Swift's moment, a girl of 18 (?) who is already proving herself not to be some flash in the pan. A girl who is incredibly talented. A girl who may very well out last the animal's need for attention with both talent and self respect.

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 14 2009 12:31 AM EDT

I stand Corrected:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ugqcA2ibwo

This Shows a Breakdown of Beyonce's Vocal Talent.

In Studio: 3.6 Octaves, Live:3.3 - 3.5
Vocal Range: Bb2-C#6(Many Argue A2-E6 though....)

Beyonce has been classified as a full soprano(It means anything Soprano including mixes she can sing it). She is capable of employing intricate melismata, and this technique is a central feature of her sound.

Taylor Swift:

1 Octive Monotone from what I can get so far although I do not think that is entirely true as I have heard her project quite well in American Idol :-/

http://blog.cmt.com/2009-08-06/taylor-swifts-other-you-belong-with-me-video/

j'bob September 14 2009 12:43 AM EDT

Zenai, go compare apples and melon-heads somewhere else.

Please find me a clip of this American Idol appearance of Taylors.
...
Go ahead, I'll be waiting.

Beyonce may very well sing better. And she's been getting CO-AUTHOR credit on her songs. That's awesome B.

"19-year old Taylor, who writes all of her own material, released her now
quadruple-platinum self-titled debut CD in October of 2006 on Big Machine
Records, and followed it up with the Fearless album two years later. Fearless
was the country's top selling album for the first 33 weeks of this year, and
now has sales of more than 4 million copies in the US and Gold and Platinum
certifications in fourteen countries spanning five continents."

http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS238032+08-Sep-2009+PRN20090908

I'm not going to make this anymore about Beyonce and Taylor than it's already become, as Beyonce seemed to be sitting (possibly) shocked at the animal's actions at the show.

I say to you, GOOD DAY.-

Lord Bob September 14 2009 12:49 AM EDT

Oh, and Green Day rocked the bloody house down!

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] September 14 2009 12:53 AM EDT

What did they sing? 21 Guns?

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 14 2009 1:03 AM EDT

j'bob:

1. Calm down I admitted that I was wrong thankyou very much. I said I was wrong when I was wrong and even posted an accurate correction. How much more do you want from me j'bob?

2. Maybe if you didn't get so Riled up about what I posted you would see that on Taylors side I just couldn't find anything concrete so freaking get over it. I looked more for her stuff than I did for Beyonce's that should say something right there. On American Idol she did do quite well as far as I was concerned and if you had paid attention to my post you would have seen that I said exactly that.

3. If you really want to compare the two you will see that Beyonce has years of time on Taylor and it is no contest....Beyonce would win hands down on her accomplishments list. You will have to get over that as well there bud. There is no way around that except to see just how far Taylor is gonna be able to go with her career.

4.I could care less about either to be honest. I just happen to know one has a better, long standing proven voice and list of accomplishments than the other: Beyonce

Just as a quick reference from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyonce

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Swift

Go Chew on that and quit attempting to attack me because you are in puppy love with Taylor Swift.

To you I say Good Night.

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 14 2009 1:08 AM EDT

And for the record again, Kanye was very very wrong for doing what he did! He should be banned from future musical Awards gatherings for a few years maybe that will teach him to shut his mouth at the appropriate time.

Lord Bob September 14 2009 1:12 AM EDT

...

Listen bud. I'm not attacking you at all. And I quickly remember what I liked and didn't like about this place after I started posting when I said to myself I was done, but I digress.

Not attacking you Zenai. Now get over it. Even after you "stood corrected" you went on to compare vocal talent between two people when the situation arose over one animal's comments about a video. I just find that funny. But if you like Beyonce that much you SHOULD stand up for her. Me, I do like her, I just don't go in for her hype. Puppy love? Nah. But I do like Swift's talent and ability. Yes B already has a much longer list of accomplishments over the 18 yo. The 18 yo who already has awards that B will prolly never get (BMI, look those up). And with any luck Swift has a very long career ahead of her. Or maybe not. Either way, my iTunes won't suffer too much.

And I just get irritated when people post out once side of their cavity. I asked about the Idol clip because... as far as I know, she's NEVER (ever?) been on Idol.
I will happily stand corrected if you can show me.
I think there was more, but honestly I tired of this 5 mins ago.

And to you I say...

So, if I listen to you I'm not a sheep? Maybe I should reconsider..

[Jedi] Danludar September 14 2009 10:54 AM EDT

So, I think this shows a big reason why I don't like OVERLY famous people. I feel bad for Taylor though. She's one of the few singer/songwriters out there that I like in the spotlight.

So, what's Kanye's talent then. Figured I'd ask since we talked about the ladies :).

j'bob September 14 2009 11:16 AM EDT

After all this I felt bad that with all this Beyonce talk, the best part has been left out (i think, i don't remember seeing it up there.. and i didn't watch the show)

Evidentially, later when B won her own award she talked about how she felt when she was 17 (?) winning her first award and then she called Swift but up and gave Swift her (B's) time for accepting.

Now that is classy. Big big kudo's to B. She could have just dismissed it or even just apologized for someone else's craptastic actions that threw her into the mix.

Well done Beyonce, well done indeed.

QBRanger September 14 2009 11:28 AM EDT

Agreed,

What Beyonce did was classly. How Taylor handled things showed she is lightyears more mature than her real age.

Again, Kanye is a pig. He was likely drunk and on some nice weed at the time.

How would he have liked it if someone else interruped his speech when he won a VMA to say 50 cent should have won?

But I guess one should except nothing more from an uneducated idiot who due to a singing ability, comes into fame and fortune.

Demigod September 14 2009 11:34 AM EDT

This thread degenerated into a fight about Taylor Swift 'vs Beyonce!?

My head hurts, where did all the "intelligent" conversation go?

I remember when we used to debate the finer points of life.
e.g. Pirates being "better" than Ninjas.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- September 14 2009 3:06 PM EDT

Well we got passed that like 2 years ago when the argument came up that a ninja has ample opportunity to just kill said pirates in their drunken sleep...

Lochnivar September 14 2009 4:54 PM EDT

ninjas.... solitary and hard to find

pirates.... enjoy 'wench-ing'

gotta figure the pirates will more successfully self perpetuate...

Anyway... on the original topic
Kanye has proven that he is a self-important moron,
Beyonce has prove that she is classy (and really, really hot),
And this thread has proven that even the intellectuals of CB not beyond the draw of pop culture.

j'bob September 14 2009 5:55 PM EDT

Listening to TARJA as I type this. I Walk Alone. Is that who you're talking about? Is that song typical of her sound. She does sound quite nice. Oddly enough when I googled her, at the bottom of the page... it listed as related searches...
Nightwish.
Good gracious why do I recognize that name marly? hmm?
Any who, she's not bad. I suppose I'm even more of a sheeple now that I've heard her and do not instantly run out and buy everything she has. (sarcasm)
I think NWA were groundbreaking.
As was Tribe Called Quest for they're own reasons.
I grew up on the likes of bands with dudes with names like Carl Palmer, Steve Howe, Keith Moon, Andrew Latimer and yes, Jimmy Page.
I think Public Enemy really did have a message.
I danced to Vanilla Ice at some point I'm sure.
I got mighty intoxicated to The Cure and Depeche Mode.
I'm not sure anyone can write like George Ivan Morrison.
It made me sad to think Bruce Dickenson thought he was better than Iron Maiden.
Yes. Metallica will transcend time and space.
Elvis IS the King.
Aretha is the Queen.
The Beatles may very well have changed the world.
I love P!nk
Dr. Dre is a genius.
No one may ever duplicate what George Strait has done.

And I have both Beyonce and Taylor Swift in my iTunes.

j'bob September 14 2009 5:56 PM EDT

oh. and Cake > pirates + ninjas + pie

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] September 14 2009 6:08 PM EDT

Yeah, I'd listen to Tarja if I liked boring, slow, sad music that put me to sleep. This is coming from a guy who listens to like every genre. Ska, pop, rap, country, name it I listen to it. But, I'm not listening to this crap. I enjoying songs I don't even understand 10x more than this, i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnaeImQ0TSg and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OzWIFX8M-Y .

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 14 2009 8:28 PM EDT

"LB, At least when I do it, it has some relevance to the conversation at hand."

A.) I've seen you do it before out of context.

B.) It was relevant. Two rude outbursts by people I hate in the same week; the coincidence here need not go uncommented on.

C.) It's not like this thread is really on topic anyway. Who has a wider octave range? Ninjas? Pirates? CAKE??? Either way, pirates lose.

D.) This thread should really be about how great Green Day was. It's up on youtube right now, but I can't give you guys the link because of the stupid language restrictions we have here.

E.) Cake or ninjas > pirates. But pirates > Kanye West.

Cube September 14 2009 10:53 PM EDT

OK, this thread has run it's distance and I'm closing it as there's be little positive contribution to either the original topic, or my vain attempt of a hijack for quite some time :)

I've also issued several CM "warnings" to various users regarding personal insults - there's no place for that on CB.
