Can't seem to get chat working... (in General)

RedWolf September 24 2009 12:31 PM EDT

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Of course, the first time I came to CB it told me I needed to install Java, which I expected. So it took me here. I tried installing both versions of Version 6 Update 16 for Windows. The next time I came to CB it gave me an error saying:

The program can't start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and I still get the same error. Using Opera 10.0. Also when I tried "verifying" that it installed correctly from that webpage, it couldn't verify it. However, from the "Install/Remove Programs" list in the Control Panel, both versions appear in the list.

Any ideas? Should I just google "MSVCR71.dll" and download it?

First of all JAVA does not like 64Bit.
Secondly, JAVA does not officially support windows 7 yet.
Thirdly, mscvr71.dll is a part of the .NET Framework 1.1 software for windows. Which of course isn't available for windows 7

So basically you're screwed.

However there is hope. You need to provide some information.
1. Are you using IE8 or Firefox? Which browser are you using?
2. Do you have any of the .NET framework versions on your pc?
3. Why are you using windows 7?

First of all JAVA does not like 64Bit.

Why not? I run Java with 64 bits Windows Vista perfectly.

I just bought a new desktop with 64 bit Windows Vista which works great with CB chat.

I hope to upgrade to Win 7 when it is released to the public.

i have found different browsers fuction differently, some browsers, CB runs fine, and on others, not so well.

Try to download SeaMonkey, it works very well with CB.

God Bless you!

Jesus Loves you!

"First of all JAVA does not like 64Bit.

If your not using IE8 in windows vista x64 then you are most definitely not using 64bits browser and you do not need 64bits JAVA.

Why JAVA hate 64bits? Since its basically 32 bits java with a plugin for 64bits browsers.

And I had some difficulties getting JAVA to run on Vista x64 when trying to use the 32bits Firefox. Those two really didn't like each other.

Ranger: when win7 is released then everything will be officially supported, for now only the release candidate is out (which probably be the final build) and most drivers and programs can run on it but need work to get them running.

Back on the subject at hand: Do you have any answers for my question already?

Thanks for your input.

1. Are you using IE8 or Firefox? Which browser are you using?
I mentioned in my original post that I was using Opera 10.0

2. Do you have any of the .NET framework versions on your pc?
I'm not entirely sure, but probably not now that you mention it.

3. Why are you using windows 7?
I had Vista 64-bit and was getting really annoyed with it. I had the opportunity to get a free, legit copy of Windows 7, so I took it.

Also, I apologize for not testing CB chat with other browsers before posting. It appears it works fine with IE8, Firefox, and Chrome, but not Opera.

Sorry for the double-post, but it turns out I do in fact have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 x64 installed.
