Reason TO participate in a Tournament? (in General)

VsCountStrum [Black Watch] January 18 2010 10:53 AM EST

As a related to question to why people do not participate in Tournaments. I would like to hear from the people that do participate, why they do?

Is the competition?
Is the testing of new Strats?
Is the possible reward of winning?

Extra Side Question:
Do you do participate to help your main character or as an isolated short term CB game?

I like breaking things...

i like to play just to have more ba to burn! i am a ba addict.

when i do get some prize that is cool and the participation prize is enough in my mind to at least try it, especially if it can be changed to a percentage of ba used in future tournaments.

i also like to try really oddball strats just to see if i happen on something that works.

The competition is nice, with every time a change in options and strategies. With that respect, I tend to try strange or different strategies from my fellow Tournament competitors to see if it works.

Also the possible reward is nice, which will eventually help my main character provided I'm actually winning something. Nonetheless, I do see them as a sort of mini-games.

Yes.

To help my main. I never win though.

I personally like growing fast, given my current character grows so darn slow.

The prizes, especially in this current T are great.

Personnaly, I started playing tournaments as soon as I got here to be able to grab some extra CBD to help out my main character. Another cool thing I like is to be able to test out new stuff and try items to figure out which would be better for my main character (if the tournament allows for a similar strat).

Best thing I like about tournaments is that they make CB life more exciting and if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't log every day to fight the same list over and over doing the same thing everyday for months...

I play for the possibility of helping my main character and for recognition. So far I'm still being ignored, but someday I will win a tournament and gain the recognition I deserve!
Not many others have made it to the top 3-5 MPR consistently in most of the tournaments he's participated in.
I was a major factor in the Grid-iron tournament and I was the fourth and last winner of the labyrinth tourney. All I'm looking for is some extra money for my main character and a little recognition of my tourney prowess!
But don't recognize me just because I said I want to be! I want it to be genuine!

Trust me Joel. People do notice you, and you are becoming a very valuable member of the community.

Thanks for the replys!

I am beginning to think that I will participate in the next tournament and my first in about 6 years.

Reason TO participate in a Tournament?

TO likes to talk a buncha crap... Back with the Eagles, he backed up his talk on the field until he got kicked out for attempting to do so in the locker room as well. Nowadays, he's not so good with the backing up of the claim to greatness... Without his speed, he wouldn't even pass for mediocre. So my guess is TO is participating in tournaments so as to try to find something to brag about again

Reasons why I'd participate?

1. For entertainment
2. To win prizes

I mentioned cooperative tourneys before, and that's because I find them more entertaining. Rather than just picking opponents and grinding, I get to plot and plan with others.

The prizes issue is a no-brainer. Tourneys in which only the top player (or top few players) win don't interest me, as having to put forth so much effort just for a chance to be successful destroys the entertainment aspect.

but if we award *everybody* with a good prize, doesn't that take some of the joy out of being the winner?

There is good and there is great.

IE in this tourney, a great prize is the 30+M NW of the tattoo and character.

3M CB in that context could be considered a good prize.

Even walking away with 1 mil from a contest like that would put a smile on my face. I just don't like the idea of investing two weeks and coming up with absolutely nothing.
