Mythology February 26 2010 8:01 PM EST

Really, REALLY?

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 26 2010 8:04 PM EST

Yep.

Mythology February 26 2010 8:04 PM EST

It's like he had draft 1,

okay evil corp go to planet paradise to get unobtainium from the blue elves

then no one mentioned, oh you know that might need a better name

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 26 2010 8:06 PM EST

Or someone said, "Don't change it. It's perfect for the intended audience."

A Lesser AR of 15 [Red Permanent Assurance] February 26 2010 8:22 PM EST

To be seen once more in Hanna Montana 2: The Quest for Curly's Unobtainuim.

Miandrital February 27 2010 2:02 AM EST

Its unfortunate that they didnt have a better storyline for the movie. It could have been even more spectacular if they did

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] February 27 2010 2:05 AM EST

They were using an already-established convention:

Only proving Cameron stole more than a script.
Aye! He's king of the space pirates!

QBOddBird February 27 2010 3:11 AM EST

CAREFUL NOT TO PILOT INTO THE GIANT FLOATING MOUNTAINS, THEY'RE FULL OF A PRECIOUS MINERAL THAT CAN ONLY BE OBTAINED BY DESTROYING A CULTURE

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 27 2010 3:27 AM EST

The film itself was rubbish.

The effects wre jaw droppingly good. ;)

Pwned February 27 2010 5:00 AM EST

It was a fictional movie...?

AdminShade February 27 2010 5:06 AM EST

unobtainium is unobtainable? pretty lame name for an element but meh :)

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] February 27 2010 5:31 AM EST

Some unoriginalium with that?

;P

TheHatchetman February 27 2010 8:21 AM EST

The film itself was rubbish.

Like I said to a buddy of mine that claimed that he was disappointed with how much Twilight sucked, "did this REALLY surprise you?" Maybe I've got a sixth sense when it comes to movies, or maybe I just pay way too much attention to previews. The last movie that actually shocked me by being terrible was Kung Pow (I expected it to be a stupid movie, but stupid in a funny way, like Dumb n Dumber... It was indeed stupid, but very unfunny)...

A third option I just thought of that may play a slight role, (but I doubt I'm as easily tricked by myself as would be required for this to be the full cause) is that maybe I prejudge a movie from previews, and anything judged as crap will be considered crap unless it is an absolute masterpiece...

On an unrelated note, if you haven't seen Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, you should. If you haven't seen it since theaters, you should buy it now. If you own it, you should be placing it in your DVD player before the end of this sentence. If by some odd chance you were already watching it while reading this thread/reply, turn it up. :P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 27 2010 8:28 AM EST

Oh I wsn't surprise. ;)

I knew the film would suck, and it did.

I just went for the effects, which were indeed jaw droppingly good. ;)

Don't wait to watch this on DvD. Seriosuly! Go see it in a cinema, in 3D. Then forget about it!

AdminNightStrike February 27 2010 8:31 AM EST

The only unobtanium I know of is from Futurama.... What's this on about?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 27 2010 8:34 AM EST

I think Avatar... which makes me even more happy I didn't waste $20 on seeing it.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 27 2010 8:41 AM EST

Oh, it's absolutely worth the money. In fact, it should have been done Fantasia style. Pretty pretty pretty and some music.

AdminNightStrike February 27 2010 8:44 AM EST

Ah.. yeah, I'm supposed to go see that in the IMAX, with a certain female companion.... Still waiting on that....

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 27 2010 8:53 AM EST

meh... after the elegant simplicity of D9 I'm not looking for shiny

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 27 2010 9:12 AM EST

Nov, I'd urge you to reconsider. ;)

The effects are awesome. And well worth the price of entry.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 27 2010 9:14 AM EST

Hmm, I'll think about it... mostly I'm now VERY excited about Clash of the Titans!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 27 2010 9:16 AM EST

Oh my, the trailed looked awesome!

I'm not usually one for remakes, but this looks like they did it right. ;)

(Well, maybe a little less Troy inspired leaping, jumping attacks....)

QBRanger February 27 2010 10:52 AM EST

As Deadpool suggests:

Unobtainuim is just a MacGuffin:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGuffin

Just like the briefcase in Pulp Fiction or Ronin.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 27 2010 11:17 AM EST

Yeah, we get that, but it's name was worse than Hiro Protagonist.

QBOddBird February 27 2010 11:36 AM EST

Ah.. yeah, I'm supposed to go see that in the IMAX, with a certain female companion.... Still waiting on that....

Awww. I'll go with you, Nightstrike.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] February 27 2010 12:07 PM EST

i am just glad that we have enough sci-fi/fantasy type movies to have the good, the bad & the ugly as any in the genre at its worst is better than chick flicks at their best! ; )

Mythology February 27 2010 12:12 PM EST

I thought Mean Girls was good

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- February 27 2010 2:17 PM EST

I've seen Avatar 3d in the Imax 3 times now with various friends, and I hope to go again, the effects were that good.

If you miss this at the Imax 3d, wow... just wow... The effects of this movie are so revolutionary, most people agree it's going to change cinema forever in the same way color changed it.

I doubt I'd be interested in seeing a movie that's not Imax 3d at this point.

On that note... MARCH 5th!!!

A Lesser AR of 15 [Red Permanent Assurance] February 27 2010 2:32 PM EST

Knew it was going to be a lame story. Did not know would be that lame on the whole. The pretty trees were not enough for the price of admission, which was in IMAX 3D, when irritation sets in a 3rd of the way into the movie.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 27 2010 2:44 PM EST

The pretty trees were absolutely worth the price of admission, but Sigourney Weaver was diminishing the overall value.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- February 27 2010 2:45 PM EST

Bast knows. =)

Pwned February 27 2010 2:48 PM EST

Sigourney Weaver was diminishing the overall value.

Agreed

A Lesser AR of 15 [Red Permanent Assurance] February 27 2010 2:56 PM EST

Can get pretty video games for the price of admission.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] February 27 2010 2:59 PM EST

Yeah, I didn't like the movie much either.
