Epic Movies (in Off-topic)

Invader Sye April 23 2010 8:49 PM EDT

So I've been watching some movies lately, and I've run out of ideas. Within the past month I have seen:

Matrix Trilogy

LOTR Trilogy

Kick Butt

Saving Private Ryan

Constantine

Equilibrium

Tae Guk Gi (The Brotherhood of War)

The Warlords (Jet Li)

The One (Jet Li)

Hero (Jet Li)

Flash Point (Donny Yen)

Ip Man (Donny Yen)

Any other epic movies that would help continue this trend?

P.S. Those of you who have not seen Tae Guk Gi (The Brotherhood of War) I demand that you watch it now. I don't know how to explain it, but this movie for me was one of those movies where you sit in the end and stare at the rolling credits in awe.

Gladiator

Wraithlin April 23 2010 10:21 PM EDT

speaking of gladitor, starz has an original series called "Spartacus: Blood and Sand".

It is very bloodly and has boobs every 10 sec, but the story is very good, my wife and I both enjoyed it greatly.

First season just finished, 13 episodes, I think it makes your epic list.

Oh and, Ben Hur also was epic.

Kensei [Sword Saints] April 23 2010 10:38 PM EDT

I would suggest The Brotherhood of The Wolf and The House of Flying Daggers for starters.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] April 23 2010 11:38 PM EDT

Kick *Butt* , is an awesome movie!

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] April 23 2010 11:44 PM EDT

i like the kill bill series. i think that counts.

Admiralkiller April 23 2010 11:54 PM EDT

Platoon. Lots of actors before they were famous, great story and excellent acting.

Most of Jackie Chan movies have really good action sequences(A couple of my favorite of The drunken master, He did two different ones, one when he was older and one when he was younger both with different storys) Thou his acting is horrible and of coarse the voice overs in his earlier movies is bad.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] April 24 2010 12:01 AM EDT

from dusk till dawn!

TheHatchetman April 24 2010 12:11 AM EDT

Way of the Dragon (Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris)

Lord Bob April 24 2010 12:18 AM EDT

Star Wars. (Watch in the order: 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3. Original, then new.)
The last two Batman movies.
Watchmen.

I'll second the Jackie Chan movies motion. I'm not sure why, but I always loved Jackie Chan's Who Am I? movie. It had a great fight scene on a skyscraper, then he slides down the side of it after.

Here's a few more movies I consider epic:
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Watchmen
Princess Mononoke
Stardust
The Princess Bride (okay it's a stretch but still a good movie)
Kingdom of Heaven
The 5th Element
Avatar

DoS April 24 2010 12:53 AM EDT

Sweet list Z. I believe no one has said Wanted yet. Oh, and I enjoy Jet Li movies as well.

Gunny Pew Pew [Red Permanent Assurance] April 24 2010 1:27 AM EDT

Don't forget the Road Warrior and Dark City for all you Matrix fans.

Hope you mean the original Longest Yard and I don't see the original Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, original Rollerball, the Omen series?, Poltergiest, the Exorcist, Cloverfield, Aliens, Rudy, SlapShot, the Incredibles(or any other pixar), Shaun of the Dead, Supertroopers, or a few others far better than a good part of that list.

QBOddBird April 24 2010 1:32 AM EDT

I understand the filter and PG-13 rating, but are we seriously censoring the title of a movie

=|

ControlFreak April 24 2010 1:43 AM EDT

Godfather I/II
Heat
Cidade de Deus
Shichinin no Samurai
Star Wars - A new Hope

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] April 24 2010 5:26 AM EDT

In addition to 13th Warrior, I'm going to recomend Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 24 2010 5:29 AM EDT

If you like Jet Li movies watch War, I'd say it has the best story of any of his movies by a long shot.
Plus it also has Jason Statham in it.

Wraithlin April 24 2010 7:32 AM EDT

Zenai I think you misread the title.

It was "Epic Movies"

Not

"Epic Movie List"

Although you do win #1 for the second topic.

Since GL is recommending great indie flicks. Please find a way to see Dust to Glory.

AdminTal Destra [Battle Royale] April 24 2010 8:25 AM EDT

Zenai April 24 2010 9:44 AM EDT

Wraithlin: All of these Movies were Epic in one way or another to me and I just happened to put them in a decent format. I made this list about a year ago and completely forgot about it until last night. I need to reorganize it though as I completely forgot a Horror Section and to update the CG/Animation Section :-/

Tal: Blood Diamond is on my list in "Other"

GL: Thanks I knew I was forgetting one! That was a very good movie and I completely forgot Iron Monkey, Shaolin Temple, Master with Cracked Fingers, Shaolin Wooden Men, Shaolin Master Killer, The 36 Crazy Fists, & Universal Soldier

As a Side Note The Protector had 3 Different Renditions and Stars but all were very good: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Tony Jaa

Still many more that I have missed maybe someday I will get around to updating this list eh? Overall it was just a big pack of names for Sye to choose from considering that he was asking for movies :-)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] April 24 2010 10:35 AM EDT

Way of the Gun as well. ;)
